Subj: Boost self-esteem
Well, I have been taking Adipex since December 1st of 2008. My first checkup was on dec. 22, 2008 and I had lost about 17 punds. But! before I started adipex I ate very large portions of food for my one meal a day (at night) and then went to sleep soon after. The very first week I was on it, I felt great. I wasn't hungry, I could drive past McDonalds hungover and still not stop for a sausage mcmuffin. I had much more will power and self control than ever before. I would say it has definitely helped my perspective on food and eating.
As of today (1/22/09), I have lost 29 pounds. I can tell a difference in the way my back, neck, legs and feet feel in the morning. I have noticed more acne breakouts than normal. It is weird, I no longer eat fatty foods and I never had this many breakouts before. I try to dry my face out with rubbing alcohol but the breakouts continue. If acne is the side effect I have to deal with while losing weight, so be it. I feel great. The boost of self-esteem totally feeds my ego. I feel like I am getting back to the real me. However, I am hoping to lose about 15 more pounds before I stop taking it. I would recommend this drug to everyone. I was a night eater who couldnt overcome my week self control, I hated being fat but kept eating because I was so upset that I was fat. This drug has actually caused me to save money because I don't spend all the money on food during the week that I used to. IF YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT FAST AND YOUR WILL POWER IS WEEK.
Subj: For smokers taking adipex.
I want to say this for the smokers taking adipex. This will increase your smoking because you get a "high" feeling that speeds you up. If you take adipex along with smoking DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT take Goody Powders or any medicine with a decongestant. It will make you feel like you are dying. You heart rate will increase, start shaking, stomach cramps and dizzy. Losing weight was more important to me than my smoking so I quit with the help of Chantix. I quit taking the Adipex for the time period of quitting. Now I really dont' have any problems and over 3 months lost 20 pounds. I hoping to lose 10 more before my dr. says no more!!
Subj: Coupling new activity with adipex
I weigh 185lbs. A few months ago, I was 180lbs. Since I moved in with my fiance, we've been more active in our lifestyles, but I've been wanting to try adipex, because so far it's been a few months of MORE activity, with no weight loss. I want to try coupling the new activity with the adipex. I need to be about 135-140 lbs. I'm only 18 though. Will a doctor even consider prescribing me the medication? I really want to begin this new lifestyle, I want to be able to keep up with my fiance (super athletic) and feel healthy. I've been overweight since I was 11.
AskDocWeb: You can get an idea if you qualify or not by checking your BMI. According to the 2008 Physician's Desk Reference, Adipex is being prescribed to those with a BMI from 27 to 29 for those weighing 180 pounds.
Subj: Went from 140 to 119lbs but
I've been on adipex for 7 months now. I went from 140 to 119lbs. It works but I can't get off of it. I've tried and when I go 2 days without it I sleep, eat and cry all day long when I don't take one. I've been having chest pains but the ER said it was chest wall pain and Esophagitis. My blood pressure has been high, headaches everyday and (This is too much info I know) but I bleed even when it's not that time of the month and it's even been black! So I've come to the conclusion being skinny isn't everything, My health is more important. If anyone has advice on getting off this drug please let me know!
AskDocWeb: This sounds like it may be good time for a complete physical checkup by your family doctor. Those symptoms you are blaming on the drug could indicate other health issues that need attention.
Subj: Very tired
Today is my first day, and I was ready for a energy boost (that was promised by many close friends from experience). Instead, I have been very tired all day. I saw another review that said something similar but I do not have low blood pressure. I actually have great blood pressure. I rarely get tired during the day. I normally walk a mile every morning and had a very hard time finishing this morning. Why am I so different?
AskDocWeb: We can't tell you why but now you have proof of that saying, "your response may vary."
Subj: Constipation and headache
I have been taking adipex for 2 weeks now and have lost 10 pounds, its great, but I have also watched what I eat and exercise now, its great to have the energy to actually go out walking with my girls. I do have a question, I drink water but still constipated, can I take an over the counter laxative? I was also wondering can I take Excedrin when I get a headache with adipex? thanks
AskDocWeb: Constipation may occur in the first few days but should pass as the body adjusts to the medication. You should check with your doctor to be sure that it is okay to use an over-the-counter laxative and Excedrin with Adipex.
Subj: Type 2 diabetes
Are there any reports indicating problems in patients with type 2 diabetes that are currently using Adipex? If so what side effects have been reported? Also I am currently taking Adderall 30mg, will the mixture of Adderall and Adipex cause unusual side effects as well. Keep in mind that I have type 2 diabetes and I use insulin to control blood glucose levels.
AskDocWeb: We didn't find any drug interactions listed between Adderall and Adipex but since insulin requirements may be altered by the use of Adipex you will need to work closely with your doctor on this.
Subj: No energy, depression, and crying episodes
Hi, I went to my dr a few wks ago asking him to do bloodwork and tell me why I cannot lose anymore weight. I eat clean, all vegetarian since the beginning of the year. It's Feb 10th today. I workout like crazy, pretty much 6-7 days a week. I'm a runner, I teach step aerobics, weight train and throw in kickboxing once a week. I work 3-11 at my job. My bloodwork came back normal, no thyroid issues, no glucose or insulin problems, only have elevated calcium and PTH, an ultrasound reveals no masses. So now I dont know whats wrong with me. I've been on vitamin b12 shots I inject myself once a week ( I'm a nurse ), and adipex 37.5 mg, and I can say that I cant stand the I feel. I don't think these feelings are related to the abnormal labs, since they just started 2 wks ago. At first it was great, lots of energy, no appetite, don't wanna eat, have to force myself to eat. Trouble falling back to sleep, extreme dry mouth, don't like to eat anymore, don't even like to drink liquids anymore, not enjoying things I once did, no energy, depression, crying episodes. I'm calling my doctor today to find out how to get off this drug. Apparently its just not for me. This is what all of my friends say. I wanna lose these extra stubborn pounds but its not worth it when u feel this badly.
Subj: I don't need to lose weight
Hello- After reading this im kind of scared to take the pill that I had ordered off line. I mean everyone had at least one negative response to this pill. I don't want britil hair or no sleep or mood swings. I just planned on taking the two bottles and working out. I don't need to lose weight at all I just got it to help me tone up I'm only 20. I'm not fat but nor am I skinny. I just wanted a flat stomach. I take birth control is that okay to take with these pills?
AskDocWeb: One reason a prescription is needed in order to get Adipex is to prevent drug abuse. If you don't need to lose any weight then you don't qualify to use Adipex. This drug is for the treatment of obesity.
Subj: Anyone having any similar problems?
I've been on Adipex for about 3 months now and I've lost 12 lbs. which is the most I think I've lost in the last four years since I was diagnosed with depression. I am currently taking 150mg of Effexor and I'm 17 years old... I've been having HORRIBLE lower chest/upper abdomen pains lately. I stayed home last week because it was so intense. I went to the doctor immediately and got some xrays done and a checkup for any irregularities but we ended up being pretty sure it was due to constipation. The pain was so inredibly intense though that I thought it was more severe than constipation. I've recently decided to get off of adipex. For me, there are too many painful side effects that majorly outweigh the 12 lbs. I've lost. I'm also hoping to switch antidepressants soon because I'm afraid of the effexor's side effects also... Anyone having any similar problems?
Subj: A little dry mouth
Hey... I am taking half of the adipex pill. Today is my first day I'm 160 pounds and the only thing I had was a little dry mouth that's all and I'm not hungry at all... I love the feeling of not being hungry. Will write back and let you know more soon...
Subj: Adipex increases my depression
I have used Adipex for almost one month along with eating only 1200 or 1100 calories a day and I have lost fifteen pounds. I previously suffered from depression and Adipex increases my depression greatly. I have crazy mood swings and can feel the anger building up in me from time to time over little things. But it has obviously helped me lose weight. I quite taking my anti depressant medicine months before this and I now feel I need some sort of medicine to help take off the edge, so it does not continue to effect my boyfriends and my relationship along with making me severely manic depressive. Any other medications I could take to take the edge off and lighten my mood swings? I obviously do not want to quite the Adipex.
AskDocWeb: Remembr that Adipex is used only for short-term treatment. For a long-term solution you will have to consult with your doctor.
Subj: It scared me
I take avalide with diurectic in it I'm taking adipex and a water pill also from my weight loss doctor called Thiamine 10mg. Is this safe? I don't think it is, I had a bad spell today the room spun even with my eyes closed it scared me. I had to go lay down for a couple hours to sleep this off.
AskDocWeb: Your doctor can't warn you about a bad combination unless they know what you are taking. Please keep you doctor informed about all medications and supplements that you are taking.
I've been taking Adipex for three days. I have only been able to eat half of what I normally would have. I've exercised for about 45 mins each day and have already lost 6 lbs. I make sure to take it in the morning so I will be able to sleep at night. So far I've had a lot of energy, but have been a bit irritable. I heard taking a B vitamin will help so I will begin that tomorrow. I'm afraid of losing my hair. Everyone I know that has taken this pill has, but they do not list it as a side affect so that concerns me. I would like to lose 50 lbs then slowly work my way off this pill. I hope this will work for me without any harmful side affects.
