Subj: Mood swings
Date: 4/25/2010
I have been using adipex for 3 wks and lost 20+ ilbs so far. I like it but I too have the bad mood swings. As far as feeling tired in the middle of the day what I do is take half in the morning and the other half around 3 this helps to keep me from crashing and I have no trouble sleeping.

Subj: Feeling jittery and fatigues
Date: 4/26/2010
I started adipex today. My doctor put me on half a pill to start... I'm feeling very jittery and fatigues at the sametime. I dont know if this is normal..I'm 5 feet tall but I weigh about 175...although I'm pretty solid. I dont look like I weigh that much...I would like to be 140...but I will be happy if I make it to 150.
Amerie

AskDocWeb: Adipex is chemically similar to an amphetamine stimulant. The restlessness and nervousness are listed as side effects that may go away during treatment.

Subj: Wondering about side effects
Date: 4/26/2010
I just started taking Adipex 2 days ago and it makes me feel weird. I am determined to lose the weight and dont want to go off the Adipex. Will these strange feelings go away. I have read all the side effects and am wondering if I am giving them to myself just because I am scared to take it. How common are blood clots and heart issues. I want to be healthy but not dead.
Cassandra

AskDocWeb: Blood clots and heart issues are listed as rare events but exact statistics are not given. The term "rare" is typically used when the numbers are less than 1%.

Subj: Dry mouth and minor headache
Date: 4/27/2010
Hi..i'm 22 years old. When I graduated high school in 2005 I weighted 230lbs...I lost that weight and managed to keep it off. All I did was cut out pop and junk like chips and cookies but I was also more active. Now I weight 189 lbs but can't seem to lose anymore weight as hard as i've tried. So today is day one of my taking adipex to try and reach my goal weight of 160 lbs...its went well except for my extream dry mouth and a minor headache...my only real concern with taking this really is the probability to keep the weight off after I stop taking adipex...if I keep up my diet and regular exercise will I still gain the weight back???
Shaina

AskDocWeb: The people most likely to regain weight after discontinuing a diet pill are the ones who didn't change their eating habits and failed to increase their physical activity. If you eliminate both of those reasons for regaining weight then you have a very good chance of keeping your weight under control.

Subj: Blurred vision
Date: 4/27/2010
I have been on Adipex for 7 months and have lost 55 lbs. It has worked great for me. Side effects I have note is constipation; a rash that lasted a month; I now have blurred vision that I thought was caused by a recent bout of Iritis, but now wonder if it could be from the Adipex? I would like to lose another 20 lbs., but do you think I might need to stop using Adipex? If it is causing the blurred vision, should it clear up once Adipex is stopped?
Laura

AskDocWeb: Blurred vision is not listed as one of the possible side effects of Adipex so check with your doctor.

Iritis is an inflammatory condition of the eye's iris characterized by pain, photophobia, tearing, and if severe, results in a reduction of visual sharpness. Often the eye looks cloudy, the iris bulges, and the pupil is contracted. If left untreated, permanent scarring may occur, reducing vision. The cause of iritis is unknown.

Subj: Side effects that may go away
Date: 4/30/2010
I've been taking Adipex for a week now (5 days). I'm only taking half a pill in the mornings because the side effects are so strong. Within 20 minutes of taking half of a pill, I contantly feel sick to my stomach, have a heart burn like feeling, my fingers are numb, sometimes I feel dizzy, feel sluggish, and there is constant pressure on my head all day. Is this normal? Will these symptoms fade if I stick with it and take them longer?
Sarah

AskDocWeb: The side effects that may go away during treatment include restlessness, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, and dry mouth. Other side effects should be reported to your doctor or healthcare provider.

Subj: I'm obese
Date: 5/1/2010
I'm 19 years old and I'm obese. I weigh 185 pounds and 5 foot 4 inches tall. I really want to take adipex but i want a doctors opinion. please help me, because I really need to lose weight quick! I am not confident and I feel like a fat cow.
Kenzie

AskDocWeb: A BMI of 32 indicates an unhealthy condition which puts you at risk for a verity of health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, gall bladder disease and some cancers. It is likely that you will need more than just Adipex in order to get this under control. Please contact your local doctor about a complete physical and what lifestyle changes, diet and exercise level would be appropriate.

Subj: Adipex is worth the cost
Date: 5/3/2010
Some of the people comenting have asked how to get adipex either because their insurance doesn't cover it or their doctor won't give it to them. I thought I'd let you know that I had to go to a doc who lived in a different city than I do. He's a ligit doctor and you have to go and be monitered every month to make sure you're ok. Insurance did not cover it and for the 6 month period, I had to pay $400, plus about $50/month for the pills. I started at 165 and at the end of the 6 months I weighed 130 and I feel and look great. I started having some side effects in the last month, so I was ready to get off the pills. All in all, even with the side effects, it was worth it and I have several friends who have done the same program with much success. Hope this helps.
Heather

Subj: Change your eating habits
Date: 5/10/2010
I started on Adipex about 6 weeks ago. This is my 3rd attempt on the med. When I went to my doctor he said that to make it work you needed to cut your diet to about 1300 calories daily. I have kept track of my food on a daily basis through an app on my Iphone. To date I have lost 28 lbs. I didn't take the med for the first 3 weekends and went off the med for 1 week 3 weeks into it and did fine with my eating.

I have found that the true nature of the drug is to supress your appetit as stated, however, you have to get your eating under control. Journaling your food intake is a great way to hold yourself accountable for every thing that passes your lips!!! I no longer have sleeping issues or the jitterness associated with it. I drink alot of water on a regular basis as it is so the dry mouth really isn't that bad. I walk as much as I can with my schedule. This pill will work for you but you have to change your eating habits or once you stop it you will gain everything back and then some which is what happened to me the first 2 times I tried it. I am 5'10 and started at 214 lbs. I am now feeling alot healthier at 186. I want to loose another 11 lbs. Good luck to all.
Tina

Subj: Viagra or Cialis while taking Adipex
Date: 5/10/2010
I have been taking Adipex for about a week now. It is working great and I have only had one side effect that has bothered me. It is difficult to get an erection. I don't want to stop taking it because it really seems to be working. Can you take Viagra or Cialis while taking Adipex.
Mark

AskDocWeb: There are no drug interactions listed between Adipex and either Viagra or Cialis but you would have to check with your doctor to find out if it would be safe in your particular case.

Subj: Adipex with Prozac?
Date: 5/16/2010
I have been on Adipex for 2 months and my mood swings are horrible. I also take prozac 20mg/day. What are the effects of taking these two meds together? I could be in the greatest mood and then someone say something wrong and i am ready to lay down and die. I feel so emotional and hopeless. I decided last night that maybe they are interacting with one another. I would like to know the total effects and the reasons. Thank you so much.
Cindy

AskDocWeb: In general, Adipex and Prozac are usually not used together because of the possibility of serotonin syndrome. The symptoms of the serotonin syndrome may include changes in mental status such as irritability, altered consciousness, hallucinations, confusion, and coma; gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea; autonomic dysfunction such as tachycardia, hyperthermia, diaphoresis, shivering, blood pressure lability, and mydriasis; neuromuscular abnormalities such as hyperreflexia, myoclonus, tremor, rigidity, and ataxia.

Serotonin syndrome is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from overstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A and 2A receptors. Similar toxic reactions have been reported when Prozac was used concomitantly with amphetamine or phenylpropanolamine.

Subj: Strange side effects?
Date: 5/19/2010
Hi, I have been taking phentremine 15mg first 2 weeks then went up to 30 mg now 2 months later I am taking adipex 37.5mg. I was wondering if anyone had strange side effects to this type? I have this strange burning feeling in both my arms and my neck about 2 hours after I take each half of the pill, is this normal?? I DO NOT want to stop taking it because I started out at 195 pounds and am now down to 178, and am well on my way to a Healthy weight. I have been working really hard to get this weight off and am not sure what this side effect is, or if it is a side effect is it an okay one? Dry mouth I can handle, gitters I can handle but a burning sensation is a little weird.
Windee

AskDocWeb: Your burning sensation is not listed as a possible side effect of Adipex but it could be a rare reaction. Why not find out what your doctor thinks so you can share it with others here.

Subj: Freaking out
Date: 5/24/2010
Hi, me and my have both been taking adipex for 2 weeks and are both experiencing what seems like pregnancy symtoms. Maybe it's in our heads because we're in our early 20s but it just seems odd she's experiencing nausea n lose of appatiet completely and I'm experiencing light cramps nausia some lose of appetite need to pee more often and slight dizzyness ... Yea were both freaking out but I don't think either of us r pregnant
Jenn

AskDocWeb: Nausea and cramps are possible side effects of Adipex that should be reported to your doctor because they are symptoms of an overdose and an adjustment of dosage may be necessary. This pill is supposed to reduce the appetite but not get rid of it completely. That may be another reason to check the dosage.

Subj: I was a carb junky
Date: 5/26/2010
I have lost 15 pounds on Adipex in a little over a month. It has really helped to curve my cravings and boost my energy. I go to the doctors every month to get my wieght and blood pressure checked. I like it thus far and hope to reach my goal of 115 pounds soon (I am 5ft tall). I did have to get a separate physical for the nursing program I just got excepted into and my blood work came back with Ketones present. From what I under stand this can mean a few different things: you are fasting, diabetic, or hypoglycemic. From talking with the NP who did my physcial we are pretty sure it is from the adipex because I am not eating all the carbs I used too or as much food. I was a carb juncky. Good luck to everyone!
Leslie
