Subj: Adipex dosage
I just started taking Adipex (2 days now) and i've noticed i've had a headache both days and irritable both days. I haven't gotten a "burst" of energy yet either...no jitters or anything. I want to give this time to work but I dont want to waste time if maybe it isn't strong enough? What doses do people start out on? Maybe should I take a whole pill rather than a half? My pill bottle says 15.0 phentermine 37.5 and take once a day. Which is the dose?
AskDocWeb: The correct dosage of Adipex depends on a number of factors that need to be evaluated by your healthcare provider. Questions about how much and when you should take them should be addressed to your doctor.
Subj: Heart murmur?
can u take adipex if you have a heart murmur?
AskDocWeb: The use of Adipex is typically not recommended if you have a history of any kind of heart condition.
Date: 7-1-2010 I have been on Adipex (37.5 mg) for three days now. I have not seen any change in appetite really, but I am consciously eating only small portions of healthy things. I had oatmeal 2 hours ago and I am hungry again!! The biggest thing is headaches though. I have had a headache for three days now too. Is there any research that maybe smoking 4 cigarettes a day with Adipex causes headache? Or could it just be the meds?? Or could it be that I am not drinking my caffeine? Is it safe to drink a little bit of caffeine with this pill? THANKS
AskDocWeb: Although headaches isn't listed as one of the side effects of Adipex there have been a few reports of that symptom. On the other hand, it is well known that caffeine withdrawal can produce some pretty bad headaches.
Subj: Excited about results
I am 34 years old and weigh 220lbs. I have been taking 2 medications. Diethylpropion 75mg, phentermine hydrochloride 37.5mg. I started 6/29/10. Today is 7/4/10 and I have lost 9lbs already. I am so excited! I have been eating 5 times a day which consist of Fiber cereal in the morning. 100 calorie yogart for snack, tuna on pita bread for lunch, 100 calorie snack, chicken breast w/ spinich salad or green veggies for dinner, fudge pop for snack or 100 calorie snack. I am drinking at least a 1/2 gallon of water a day if not more. I am taking a multi vitamin and a vitamin D. Was wondering if the 2 are safe? My plan is to take this medication for 2 months and lose 50lbs.
AskDocWeb: Many of the successful dieters say that drinking lots of extra water is a good idea. A multi-vitamin supplement is not required but then it will not hurt anything either. It is Xenical that typically requires a multi-vitamin supplement.
Subj: Adipex does wonders!
1 1/2 weeks into Adepix and I feel great. The first week was a bit rough. Doc told me to take 1/2 a pill a day the first week and start a whole pill the 2nd week to avoid most of the symptoms. I didn't listen. I assumed because I'm a caffeineholic that it wouldn't bother me so much. WRONG! Although I would lay down at night I never felt like I was sleeping. I quickly realized what was happening and dropped the dose to 1/2. Now I'm on a the full dose and it's working so much better. Dry mouth is only bothersome when I'm trying to talk. I love that water has become my best friend. I keep a gallon with me at all times. Also gum, for those times when I know that I have to talk. It really does wonders! I'm not sure how much weight I have lost, but I know I've put on a pair of pants I haven't worn in a year. I try and walk as much as possible, keeping to Docs orders of at least 15 mins 3 times a week. More if I have time. I started at 168 lbs and trying for the goal of 120 lbs by the end of the year. This medication has given me the motivation I needed to keep going. I no longer crave sweets, salts or bread. I'm in love ha ha.
Subj: Dont feel different
today is my second day taking adipex, but I dont really feel any different. I dont wanna eat as much but energy wise I dont feel much different. will I feel it over time?
AskDocWeb: If you maintain the lifestyle changes and stick to the plan, your physical ability will increase over time and you will begin to feel more capable.
Subj: Adipex not working
I have been taking adipex for a week now, and have experienced no side effects, but havent lost any weight, I do not feel full, I still eat just like I did before, it hasent supressed my appitiete. the only thing that it makes me is tired and lazy. why isnt this working for me? why is it having opposite effects?
AskDocWeb: It is possible that your dosage might need to be adjusted. This is one of the reasons why it is important to work closely with your doctor.
Subj: Hair loss with Adipex?
Has anyone experienced hair loss with Adipex? If so does it start to grow back?
AskDocWeb: Although hair loss is not listed as a side effect Adipex, there are a growing number of reports from users about this. In most cases, hair loss that is caused by a drug reverses once the drug is discontinued. You might take a look at a shampoo that supports hair growth and fights hair loss, something like Nisim Biofactors.
Subj: Lost 50lbs and feel GREAT
Well I have been taking this pill for about 6 months I really lack in my exercise but I have lost 50lbs and I feel GREAT the only problem I was having is being restless at night but it has goting a whole lot better! I love it and I love me.
Subj: I decided to give Adipex a shot
I used to weigh about 280 pounds and kept plateauing at about 225-230. [Course of about three years.] I decided to give Adipex a shot. I need to lose about 35-45 pounds for my height, weight, and body frame. I'm about 5'8/9 with a medium-large body frame. An ideal weight for me would be sitting at about 170-180. And, of course if I'm not satisfied at that weight I can keep losing more weight. I've been on Adipex on and off for about a month, due to me being so sick. I ended up being misdiagnosed and mistreated, for a sinus infection, when I ended up having pharyngitis. Anyway, I haven't gained any weight at all, even when I had gotten really sick. I have an Endocrinologist and have been subscribed 60 days, I was instructed to take 1/2 a day, then bump it up to a full pill a day. I'm only eating about 1000 calories a day, and you're not supposed to drink alcohol on it. Which, I've not, but I'm not back at school either! I will keep everyone updated on my successes and failures throughout my journey. If you are on Adpiex, Drink as much waster as possible! You do get really dehydrated, however, you're supposed to drink a lot of water when dieting, it helps to speed up your metabolism! I'm a public health major minoring in sociology and nutrition. I'm about half-way done. So, I'm hoping this will work in my favor. I hope that my pharyngitis condition was not because of the Adpiex. I've dieted for so long in my life, that I know your tolerance goes down when dieting. So be sure to take vitamins and drink a cup of tea! [decaf!] Good luck!
Subj: Hair loss with Adipex
If you are lossing your hair stop taking those pills right away!!! It is good for weight loss but it is poor on your hair. I had a head full of thick hair and I was on those pills for two months and I dam near don't have no hair. I have spots of patches of hair missing all threw out my head. I have to go back to see my doctor to see what my test say. Question will my hair even grow back once the pills are out of my system.
AskDocWeb: Yes, it is likely to grow back. Most drug induced hair loss stops when the drug is discontinued.
Subj: Can't eat on Adipex
I cant eat on Adipex..maybe I should go down to half a pill...Because yesterday all I could get down was half a waffle and a piece of bacon. Yesterday was a baked potatoe and I was feeling lightheaded light I was going to pass out so today I got a small fry from the cafeteria thinking I needed the extra calories and fat for energy. But I was only able to get down like 3 fries..Is this normal?
AskDocWeb: No, it is not normal. Please talk to your doctor about your lack of appetite as well as what foods you should avoid in order to lose weight.
Subj: Cranky and no period yet
I have been Adipex for about a week now, my husband says that when it wears off at the end of the day I turn into a "monster". I am not really sure why, I mean I know that I get tired and cranky, but never do I feel like a monster. Also, is it normal that I have NOT started my period yet? I mean I had a pregnancy test done before I got the medication and it was negative. I just have not gotten it yet and I was a little nervous. Although, on the positive note I love this pill. I finally have the energy to get up and run around and do things that I didn't think I was going to be able to do again, after my son.
AskDocWeb: Irritability is listed as one of the possible side effects that may go away with continued use. Several weight loss products have been reported to cause a change in menstruation timing, both early and late, and Adipex is one of them.
Subj: Constantly trying to clear throat
Adipex is great and I am losing weight on it, but it feels like I have a huge ball of mucus in my throat and can't clear it. I am constantly trying to clear my throat to the point that it is giving me a sore throat. Is that a normal side effect?
AskDocWeb: No, that is not a normal side effect but sometimes a dry mouth, which is a possible side effect, can lead to a cough.
Subj: Biggest loser competition
I just started taking Adipex today. I'm 5'6 and 151 lbs with a BMI of 24.4. I'm a little worried because everything I have been reading says Adipex is for the morbidly obese or excessively overweight and you need at least a BMI of 27 to take it. It's also a pill of "last resort" when diet and exercise don't work. I started exercising and eating better (cut out pop and candy etc) 2 months ago and started out at 161 lbs and I'm down 10 lbs but it's been really slow. I want to get down to 135-140. I joined a biggest loser competition at work and we have 1 month to go. So I need to lose 15 lbs fast. I'm not sure if Adipex will work that fast but we'll see.
I went to a certified nurse practitioner that gives out the prescription as a part of a weight management program. She recorded all my measurements (my fat was too high at 33% but my BMI is normal) so she still gave me the prescription. I don't think I need it, but I'm willing to try anything to win this contest ($500) although not at the expense of my health. So I'm going to go see my normal doctor next week for a physical and see what they recommend. I should probably just stick to my diet and exercise plan. I do feel a little jittery right now and my mouth is a little dry but that seems to be the only side effects so far.
Although I thought it was supposed to be an appetite suppressant and I went out to lunch and had tacos and half a thing of chips and salsa. So I didn't feel like I ate any less. If anything, I'm still hungry. I'm hoping in a couple of days it will help curb my apetite more because I'm always hungry. The only other thing I'm going to have to watch is my heart rate. When I work out (before going on Adipex) my avg HR is around 155-165 with a max HR reaching 180's and has even gone as high as 199 before. I'm only 28 so that is pretty high. I'm just worried that Adipex may speed my heart up even more and may cause issues. I told the nurse how high my HR gets and she still gave me the prescription. She said she's been prescribing it for 15 years and it will just help me get a jump start on my weight loss. So hopefully everything goes well.
