I was prescribed ambien in 2005. I have never slept walked before in my life. The first night I took it, I went to bed around 10:30pm. I awoke about 2 hrs later 30 miles away in another parish(I live in Louisiana) going around a sharp curve. Luckily I made it safely home but was extremely confused about what had happened.
The 2nd time I took it, I awoke as I was being rear ended by a truck and was knocked into the oncoming lane of a busy highway landing in someone's front yard. The truck fled the scene. When the police and my mother arrived, I realized I was in my pajamas. Luckily.....very luckily for me, the officer didn't suspect me of being impaired. He thought I was just shaken up by the wreck. I still had not connected these episodes with the Ambien at the time.
The 3rd time I took it, I found myself again in my pajamas, sitting in my car soaked in urine, in my neighbors front yard down the street. Luckily, I didn't hit anything. Must have had my guardian angel looking out for me. The next day, I did some research on the computer and contacted my pharmacist who told me that sleep driving was a rare, but very real side-effect of the ambien. I will never, ever touch this drug again!!! I was very lucky!
I took ambient and got up out of bed. My husband laying there watching TV. I came back into the room with two pieces of banana cake, one two small lids, two forks and went to the bedroom handing a lid to him to take. He said he wasn't hungry and I told him he had to eat it so he did. I went over to my side of the bed and sat on the floor with my cake. I remember none of that. My husband said he couldn't tell I was asleep.
This is the last time I will take ambient. The first sleepwalking with ambient I got out of bed, went to the kitchen and took the turkey out, put enough on bread to make a sandwich and then proceeded to grill it like a grilled cheese. No more ambient for me. I'll stay awake all night if I have to. Ambient is dangerous in my opinion.
Stilnox induces sleep and causes relaxation. It is used to treat sleep disorders such as trouble falling asleep, waking up many times during the night, or waking up too early in the morning. Stilnox is (ad removed)

Ambien and swelling ankles
I have been using 10 mg Zolpidem for 10+ years. For several years I have suffered with edema in my ankles. I have tried water pills, which did not help. I have also had a complete cardiac workup. Except for venal insufficiency in both legs--which ablation did nothing to correct--the edema remains. My legs also feel weak, and balance is not good. Could ambien cause this problem? My overall health is good.
AskDocWeb: Side effects caused by any medicine usually start showing up within days of starting it or after an increase in the dose. Since you noticed the swelling after long-term use it therefore seems likely that other medical causes should be explored. Also swelling of the feet and/or ankles is not a commonly reported side effect of Ambien.
Vision changes and vertigo
Hi I have also been taking ambien for about 7 months. It's great at making me fall asleep but lately I've also notice my vision changed, well it feels like I can't focus which comes and goes. And I am constantly feeling vertigo, for a second I thought I was going crazy now that I know it's from this I am going to start winging myself off it. Feeling like I am about to pass out during the day is not worth it. Gonna try melatonin.
Ambien sleep driving costs
Ambien should have either black box warning or taken off the market. I am an ALS patient who was prescribed ambien to help me sleep while having muscle spasms, fasiculations. I took one Ambien at bedtime, I don't remember anything until about 6 pm the next day. I have a clean driving record. My wife told me I had been out driving, had a one car accident. I was arrested and booked for OVI, m4 wreck less driving and failure to control my vehicle . I had no memory of this happening. There was no alcohol involved, I submitted to a urine test which showed ambien. My drivers license has been taken away.
I hired an attorney who was very expensive. I was told that I could be facing jail time. I am awaiting my fate in the justice system to see how much jail time I will have to do. This was the first time I had taken Ambien. So I am not only dealing with ALS but may have to serve prison time and fines. I have never had a ticket while driving in my 43 years of driving. Ambien has caused me anxiety not to mention the anxiety caused by ALS.
A family member of mine who was addicted to Ambien just DIED. The Coroner's Report will not be out for 6-9 months because they are backed up there on work. We are fairly sure ambien contributed, if not caused her death though. She went to rehab to try to kick her addiction and was in long-term recovery.
Please take your useage of Ambien seriously and get help from a professional or a recovery group asap. Make sure to be honest with your doctor and your pharmacy about your useage. Combined with other drugs they need to know your doseage, etc. Be honest or you might not wake up one day.
If you are going to keep taking Ambien, and not addressing the problems, then make sure you have an original copy of your will and your relatives know where it is -- with an attorney in their vault or files is best. Also make sure somebody you trust knows where you keep all of your passwords and bank account information. Also important, take out some life insurance so that the cost of your funeral can be paid out before your personal accounts get turned over to your heirs.
This is no joke. My relative was a mental health professional. Nobody wants to believe this effective sleeping pill can lead to death, but it does. I did not even mention the time she got in to a car accident the morning after taking Ambien. She remembered nothing when the cops got there. Luckily nobody was hurt. The cars were and the DA threw the book at her. Her car insurance costs $900/mo. now. Think about your actions. They have consequences. Maybe don't go cold turkey, but come up with a plan to change your life. I know you can do it. We didn't know our relative was addicted. It has all come out now. Be there for the ones you love, choose life and kick Ambien. I know you can!
