Subj: Celebrex works amazing
Date: 6/28/2010
I love celebrex. I have a groin injury that has been going on for up to 5 years now but the thing is, the pain comes and goes when it pleases. I can have pain for a day then it can leave for a year, or it can last a month and come back every month with a week of me being fine. My drs dont know what it is but for the past few weeks the pain has been the worst it has ever been. My family MD prescribed 200 mg 2x a day and gave me enough samples for 10 days. It works amazing. Better than my vicoden percaset and baclofen combined. But I have taken the pills 4x a day. Is it healthy to take that much? How long does celebrex work for? It seems to me that like clockwork it lasts for 6 hour intervals after that if I miss a pill for an hour then I'm screamin from the pain. I'm six foot six and three hundred pounds.

AskDocWeb: The length of time that Celebrex can mask the pain varies with several factors, BMI, diet, condition of your liver, etc., Celebrex is metabolized in the liver. Remember that whenever you use more than what is prescribed, that is an overdose and typically it is not healthy to overdose on any medication. Of course the known benefits have to be weighed against the possible risks but that is best left up to your doctor.

Subj: Celebrex equals weight gain
Date: 7/5/2010
Celebrex to reduce butt pain that radiates down my leg. Right hip has a little arthritis but nothing serious. Really, I have the proverbial "pain in the butt". I find no relief but worse yet, I am gaining weight. This is not acceptable due to having just lost 20 lbs and have normal blood pressure again. Just don't understand it as I work out every day and eat a carb free, sugar free diet. Celebrex=weight gain for me.

Subj: Lost 60% hearing
Date: 7/6/2010
Hi I took celebrex for back pain, given by GP who said was safe... it turns out not safe .. I have lost 60% hearing in left ear, aplified if I go into crowds, because there a constant noise in that ear. I have never had any problems before my blood pressure rocked, put on tablets to lower it which made me feel terrible.. ENT chap said it was meniere..given vergo.... have come of all medication blood pressure going down...taken over 6mths to come some where right.. no back pain but this is what I have to live with taking a safe drug, !!!!!!!having to fight to be heard and believed by medical trained personals.... this drug is not safe for all to take.

Subj: Swollen knucles
Date: 7/16/2010
I took Celebrex in the past for a few years. After changing insurance companies the new one wanted me to take Mobic. I did not see much of a difference in the pain. I have noticed since I went off Celebrex and started the Mobic, about 3 years now, my knuckles have become so swollen and I can not get my rings on. My Dr gave me samples of Celebrex to try again. I wanted to know if the swelling would every go down and he said he did not know.

Subj: Allergic to Celebrex?
Date: 8/2/2010
Took Celebrex for about a week and suddenly began itching. Developed a hive like rash on my back, stomach and legs and thought it was something i ate but i didnt eat anything different then before. Will stop taking Celebrex bc i am pretty sure that's what is causing the rash. Can you tell me what is in Celebrex that i seem to be allergic too? I have never been allergic to anything else before. Thanks,

AskDocWeb: A hive like rash may actually be hives. This is listed as one of the possible side effects that should be reported to your doctor, which includes skin rash or itching. It is possible to be allergic to celecoxib, the active ingredient in Celebrex. Also the patient information for Celebrex says that you are not take this medicine if you have had a severe allergic reaction to a sulfonamide antibiotic (Septra DS, Bactrim DS, Gantrisin) or have asthma.

Subj: Flushing of feet
Date: 8/3/2010
I have taken 400 mg of Cleebrex a day for 7 years. I am having flushing of my feet and tipping of my toes, tipping is red skin on tops of toes and fingers. One of my toes is now red all the way down the back of the toe. I am very concerned and will be discussing with my Dr. at next appt. Has anyone else had this type of reaction?

Subj: Bad reaction to Celebrex
Date: 8/3/2010
When I was given Celebrex for inflammatory knot on my foot...never diagnosed as to what it was, I felt as if something heavy was sitting on my chest..couldn't take a deep breath. Immediately, stopped taking as I have had penicillin and sulfa reactions in the past.

AskDocWeb: The patient information on Celebrex says, "Do not take this medicine if you have had a severe allergic reaction to a sulfonamide antibiotic (Septra DS, Bactrim DS, Gantrisin)."

Subj: Difficulty going to sleep
Date: 8/11/2010
I have been taking Celebrex for bursitis and the pain went away almost instantaneously. Depending upon the type of exercise, I may limp a little but overall, no pain. I am experiencing difficulty going to sleep, however. I used to fall asleep quickly; now it takes up to 1-1/2. I have been taking this med for about two weeks.

Subj: Alcohol
Date: 8/12/2010
If I stop taking the medicine how long do I have to wait before I can drink again.

AskDocWeb: The effective half-life of Celebrex is 11 hours so it can take a couple of days to completely clear your system.

Subj: Best anti-inflammatory
Date: 8/13/2010
For me, celebrex has been a great help. I have severve neck & back pain, have had 3 cervical fusions, 4 stomach surguries, so I need something that helps pain without irritating gi tract. I have been diagnosed with Barrets Esph. and OA. The stomach were surguries due to severe reflux. I have taken Celebrex for years, had tried other meds which killed my stomach. I do use other pain meds as well. There have been times when I changed ins. and couldn't get timely refill, Bad Mistake!! As far as I'm concerned, Celebrex is best anti-inflam. on market with the least side effects.

Subj: Behaving strangely
Date: 9/3/2010
My daughter took this product and became confused. I thought it would pass. It didn't. Soon she was talking to her self, and behaving strangely. Celebrex is an NSAIDS - they can have very harsh side effects.

Subj: Fibromyalgia pain
Date: 9/5/2010
I have fibermyalgia for 10 years. first i took vioxx, then bextra and now celebrex. I decided to stop taking celebrex and see how i feel. well i am on day 3. I am very achey, i have alot of pains in my neck, back, and legs. i am taking aleeve and flexrile instead of the celebrex. what happens when u stop taking celebrex? Will these pains go away in time?

AskDocWeb: When you discontinue any pain medication, you start feeling the pain that the medication was masking. That is not a withdrawal effect but rather it is the pain that the Celebrex was blocking.

Subj: Excessive tiredness
Date: 9/10/2010
I took Celebrex for many years, I assume 5, for my fibromyalgia. Interestingly no one ever warned me about weight gain, which is rather inconsiderate since I had an eating disorder for years. I haven't taken my dose for about 2-3 weeks now, the pain level is ok, basically the same it was with the Celebrex. But what is really botherin me is the excessive tiredness. I was wondering if that could be a withdrawal symptom? I have also had a lot of stress lately, so that could lead to exhaustion, but the level it is at is really bothersome. I could sleep all day and still be tired, but I have so much I need to do!

AskDocWeb: Unusual fatigue is listed as one of the possible side effects that should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: Does celebrex contain aspirin?
Date: 9/15/2010
Please I would like to know if celebrex contains aspirin?

AskDocWeb: Celebrex does not contain aspirin. However, the patient information for Celebrex says, "Do not take Celebrex if you've had an asthma attack, hives, or other allergic reactions to aspirin, NSAID medicine, or certain drugs called sulfonamides."

Subj: Celebrex and arthritis
Date: 9/21/2010
I have been taking celebrex for one year for arthritis. I have had one hip and a joint in my thumb replaced already. I have been told that I need my other hip replaced and one knee. Does celebrex actually stop the progression of arthritis, or just mask the pain. Are my joints getting worse and because of the medication I am not realizing how bad they are.

AskDocWeb: Celebrex does not stop the progression of arthritis but it does reduce inflammation and mask the pain. Glucosamine Chondroitin and Fish Oil are supplements that work so well for us that we wouldn't do without them.

Since you are facing surgery you may be interested in a new method of treating degenerative cartilage diseases developed by an orthopedic surgeon as a possible alternative to invasive procedures such as joint replacement. Dr. Allan Dunn (Miami, FL) injects human growth hormone directly into the affected joint spaces which stimulates the growth of cartilage. The regrowth of cartilage increases the space between the ends of the bones, often up to 4 mL in volume, which is enough to ease the pain and stiffness in the affected joint. Growth hormone also increases the production of collagen, the strong fibrous connective tissue that attaches cartilage to bone. Treatment with IntraArticular Growth Hormone (IAGH) reproduces the same environment in which joint tissues grow during childhood. The IAGH procedure has been successfully used on hips, knees, ankles, shoulders, and elbows. (Dr. Allan Dunn may be reached at (888) 848-6534.)
