Didrex for ADD?
Date: 4/24/2010
I want to know where I can find somebody who will perscribe Didrex for ADD. I briefly used it as a diet aide 20 years ago undiagnosed and found 1 pill all day worked better than Ritilin, Adderal, or Stratera for me (which i later tried). I cant get anyone to give it to me for this purpose but I see it is used for this. Why not? Where do I go? I have been diagnosed 3 times...
Val

AskDocWeb: In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approves medications for specific uses. If a medication is used for any other use (other than approved uses), this is considered an "off-label" use. Didrex is a prescription medication approved to treat obesity. Using Didrex to treat ADD would be an "off-label" use. While there is no law against doing that, there are other health issues that have to be considered. For example the patient insert says that Didrex should not be given to patients who are in an agitated state or who have a history of drug abuse.

Drug test
Date: 5/20/2010
how long would it take for diatrex to be out of my system so i can pass a urine test...I only took a few.
Krys

AskDocWeb: Some of the urine drug tests have been reported to show Didrex as a positive for Amphetamines. Didrex can stay in the body for up to a month after stopping.

Didrex for ADD
Date: 5/27/2010
Didrex is fabulous for loosing weight and even better for ADD but it is apparently suposed to be addicting to some boneheads who ruined it for the rest of us who could really use it. Researchers, turn this into a patch or a non addictive drug if you think everyone is going to get addicted to it. Just get it approved for ADD. It is the best. Nothing is better.

Dark circles under eyes
Date: 8/3/2010
I have been taking Didrex for four days now and I have lost 5 pounds. I take two or three pills a day depending on how my day is going and they are 50mg each. I am getting 5-7 hours of sleep each night which is less than I normally sleep. I have noticed that I am getting dark circles under my eyes and I feel pressure in that area. Is this a side effect of Didrex. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere online. What can I do to get rid of them? Thanks for your time.
Tanya

AskDocWeb: There is a discussion of eye bags here.

Irregular periods and spotting
Date: 8/6/2010
I recently started taking adipex and have been having good results but it has caused me to have irregular periods and spotting almost everyday. I'm wondering if didrex would have the same effect?
Shanna

AskDocWeb: A changes in menstrual period is not listed as a side effect of Didrex and there are no reports of menstrual problems with Didrex.

Swelling of lips?
Date: 9/12/2010
How can I tell if the Didrex is the reason my swelling of lips? Wouldn't I have had a reaction before 4th day? I am prone to the swelling anyway from fish etc. Take only 1/2 a tablet could my bitting them in half have something to do with it Dr. prescribion was for that amount.
Denise

AskDocWeb: It is your doctor's job to evaluate swelling lips. That is why it is listed as one of the possible side effects that should be reported to your doctor. Although an adverse reaction is more likely to show up soon after taking a drug, they can occur anytime. The body may be able to tolerate a drug for awhile but once they reach their threshold, days, weeks, or even months later, an adverse reaction can occur. The 50mg tablet is scored, which indicates that it may be split in half but please, use a pill splitter.

Didrex sort of wore down
Date: 12/18/2010
I am taking didrex now on my 6th week 1 pill a day. At first it seemed to work well. Then it sort of wore down. now after reading all of these reviews I'm scared to stop. I too adipex a few years ago it was great! I keep the weight off for a few years. Then I got sick with mono which my doctor at that time did not detect with several blood testo after 4 months of bad fatigue and eating whatever I felt like and not moving around I gained 25 pounds. The adipex wont't work after a while, it will just give you bad effects.so. now I want to go off sided.

Didrex converts into drugs of higher addiction potential
Date: 4/7/2011
I just wanted to make you aware that Didrex (benzphetamine) also shows up as methamphetamine in addition to amphetamine. It is unique in its classification as a Class III drug because it is one of the few drugs that undergoes in vivo conversion into drugs of higher addiction potential (amphetamine and methamphetamine).

Doctor in Metro-Detroit?
Date: 4/16/2011
What doctor in Metro-Detroit will prescribe Didrex. I am 5'3 and weigh 215lbs obesity. I tried the generic brand and they didn't work at all. I bought a few on the brand name from a friend and I lost 2-lbs a day. I want to order online but don't know what I am getting online Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
Eighthborn

AskDocWeb: Insisting that a doctor prescribe a specific drug is one of the signs of drug abuse. And of course that makes a doctor less likely to prescribe it. Buying prescription drugs from a friend is illegal in most places, unless that friend is a licensed pharmacist. If your goal is to get this drug, we can't help you. On the other hand, if your goal is to lose a healthy amount of weight then follow the advice of your doctor.

Being bit by tiny bugs
Date: 6/8/2011
My wife takes didrex and adipex for a slight overweight problem. The problem is every time she gets them after about two weeks of taking them she starts thinking she is being bit by tiny bugs. She will pick anything off her skin and swear it was biting her when in fact its nothing. Has any one heard of this?

Detox from Didrex
Date: 9/8/2011
My husband is trying to detox from this awful drug. he had been taking 12 pills a day 50 mg. He stopped cold turkey. It is his 4th day and he is a mess. He has been taking valium to stay calm. I hope that the longer he goes without the better his chances are of beating this addiction as there is no drug to take to counteract this. Does anyone know if there is anything? For opiates there are so many. For amphetimenes there are none?
Leslie

AskDocWeb: You are correct, we have yet to find a medication that is effective for the treatment of amphetamine withdrawal. There is some evidence to suggest that ginseng may provide limited relief of some of the symptoms of amphetamine withdrawal. This supplement is relatively inexpensive so it may be worth a try.

Will Didrex help?
Date: 10/27/2011
I have taken adipex for about a year and have stopped for about 3 weeks. Now my dr has switched me to didrex. She explained that they are different, however, still a stimulant like adipex. If I have gotten use to the adipex will the didrex help? Thanks.
Toni

AskDocWeb: Didrex is both a stimulant and an effective appetite suppressant so yes, it is likely to help. However, it is not likely to do all the work for you. You still have to make the lifestyle changes in diet and activity level for the weight loss program to be effective. Otherwise you will probably gain back any weight lost while using this medication.

20 years of Didrex
Date: 10/31/2011
right are wrong i have been taking didrex for 20 years to maintain my weight. i am 57 and have had no ill effects.
Ron

AskDocWeb: What a coincidence, we talked to a smoker the other day who said almost the same thing about cigarettes. They used smoking as a substitute for snacking. There are a lot of people who don't see anything wrong with using short-term solutions to fix long-term problems. It's not that it doesn't work but it does cost more in the long run. And... the drug company is not likely to send you a thank you note for all your financial support over the past 20 years. Hum, wonder how much that adds up to...

Child ate a Didrex
Date: 12/11/2011
what to do if my 2 yr old 26 pound child eats a didrex, HELP! He found it on the floor when we were cleaning out a bedroom in my house.
Tiffany

AskDocWeb: We would call the poison control center or the local emergency medical number. That number may be 911, 112, or another number in your area.
