Positive for DAMP
I'm in the army and in September mine and a friends urinalysis came back positive for DAMP, neither of us took any drugs knowingly and we are now facing getting chaptered from the army. Mine was at 1050ng and his was around 400ng, the only thing I could think of was if someone had slipped something in my drink but my sco said there was no way I wouldnt have noticed. Is this true? What could have happened?
AskDocWeb: DAMP is short for DexAmphetamine Monophosphate, which is a metabolite of amphetamine drugs. The last time we checked the cutoff level for amphetamine was 500 nanograms per milliliter so your friend may be in the clear. The use would have to have occurred in the two days prior to the test. It does seem hard to believe that you wouldn't have noticed if someone slipped you something. Service members facing an other-than-honorable discharge for illicit drugs usually get a hearing before an administrative separation board, which also could move to retain them.
We encourage you to explore your rights to see if there's a way to prevent the positive urinalysis from compromising your career. Others in your situation have used the following defenses successfully: Improperly handled urine samples and/or lab used improper testing methods.
Another potential defense involves showing that military personnel violated a member's due-process rights by trying to interrogate him without first informing him of his rights.
I have to take a urine drug test is it possible I can fail if I been taking Hydroxycut Max?
AskDocWeb: Although it is possible to fail a urine drug test when you are innocent, the chance of that is very small, and it wouldn't be because of Hydroxycut Max. The formula for Hydroxycut has changed over the years and it no longer contains ephedra, which caused problems on drug tests. After a warning letter from the FDA they removed that ingredient. Unfortunately new problems have come up for the company that makes Hydroxycut so you may want to do some research if you plan on using that product.
Concerned about medications
Was just wondering if any of my medications might cause false positives for illegal drugs. I'm currently on Adderall 40mg, Xanax 4mg, indomethacin up to 3 50mg a day for migraines, up to but not always Flexeral 4 10mg, prozac 40mg and also one of each daily doses of A, C, D, E, and a calcium supplement. My concern is I have been on probation for 3 1/2 years now and I have not smoked pot ever since I've been on probation and I recently failed one. I'm looking at more than 2 1/2 years for a probation violation.
AskDocWeb: The only medications on your list that have shown up in the research are Prozac and Xanax. Prozac sometimes shows up as a false positive for amphetamines and LSD. Xanax (Alprazolam) is in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines but as long as you have a legitimate prescription for it that shouldn't be a problem. As far as drug tests go, whenever there is any doubt, it is a good idea to get a confirmation test.
Side Note:Last year Xanax was the most prescribed drug in the USA and is the main suspect in the drowning death of Whitney Houston.
Vicodin or Mobic?
Can vicodin and mobic cause a false positive for thc?
AskDocWeb: There are no reports of either of those drugs causing a false positive for THC.
My constitutional rights have been violated!
I refused a drug screen at work and my nursing license was suspended. I believe if I had submitted to the screening "on the spot", it would have been contaminated. This thing snowballed and now I am not allowed to work. I have been doing random drug screens for a year and so far I have had 3 false positive results. I have no idea what to do. I have been so careful about what I take, drink and eat. So, yes! I feel my constitutional rights have been violated!
Drug test tomorrow
I take trazadone occassionally to sleep. I also have a drug test for a job tomorrow....tonight I'm starting to feel the signs of a yeast infection.....I dont want to take an advil, but I did last night....will any of these make me fail a drug test?
AskDocWeb: Trazadone has sometimes shown up as a false positive for amphetamines. Advil has been reported to sometimes show up as a false positive for THC or marijuana. Just be sure to give them a list or have them note whatever you are taking.
I don't know what to do!
I take oxycodone am a diabetic I do not drink have been sober for the past 25 years yet I am testing positive (5 out of 7 urine tests and 1 blood test) please help my doctor said he would not write another script for oxycodone if I test positive again I don't know what to do thanks.
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you need to convince your doctor that your urine test result was a false positive. About the only way to do that is with a confirmation test. That is a much more expensive test and you may have to pay for it out of your own pocket. That is, if your doctor will do that. Some are more open to the possibility of false positives than others. Be warned though that some doctors are so intimidated by the DEA that they drop patients at the first sign of a problem.
Tested positive for Marijuana and Amphetamines
I recently tested positive for Marijuana and Amphetamines. I do neither. I realized Nyquil caused false positive for Amphetimine. I asked them to send my urine to the lab. Is there a difference between 'screeing' versus sending urine 'to a lab'??? Because, the results from the lab still showed too high amounts of "THC". I have never smoked Marij. nor eaten pot brownies etc. I am on high does of Aleve for anti inflammatory and Ibuprofen for muscles aches due to 4 failed shoulder surgeries. Aleve - 1,200mgs a day spread out, Ibuprofen, about g 1,000 day spread out. Is it possible that these could mimic THC and cause drug lab tests to show positive for THC? THANKS.
AskDocWeb: Drug testing varies so much from one state to the next and from one clinic or business to the next, that you have to ask those doing the testing to define their terms. The drugs you are taking have been known to mimic THC but only on the initial urine test. If the sample is sent to an independent lab for confirmation those false positive will come back negative. A confirmation test is typically performed by either GC/MS or LC/MS/MS.
GC/MS stands for Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry. A portion of the sample is vaporized and a spectroscopic analysis is done on the components of that gas. The spectrum of the substances present is somewhat like fingerprints for each substance. Each substance has a unique spectrum. The results of the GC/MS test specifically list exactly what is found in the sample.
LC/MS/MS stands for Liquid Chromatography with tandem Mass Spectrometry. This is an analytical technique where the sample is vaporized and ions in the spray are analyzed by the mass spectrometer. Typically, LC/MS methods are sensitive enough to detect and identify concentrations of 10 parts per billion. According to Acculabs Special Analytical Services (SAS), specificity of the LC/MS/MS method results in data with no false positive results.
