Could phenol cause a false positive for cocaine?

AskDocWeb: Phenol may produce a false positive test result on the Kastle-Meyer test but not for drugs of abuse. The Kastle-Meyer test is a forensic test commonly used by crime labs for the chemical identification of blood.

Tested positive for thc and amphetamines
Date: 2/21/2012
Probation drug test I have recently tested positive for thc and amphetamines. I am on probation and have been for 2 1/2 years and am not doing any drugs. I have never failed a test. I am taking (and prescribed to) adderall 20mg 3x a day, seroquel 25 mg 2-3 tabs at night, klonopin .5 2-3x a day, and have just been prescribed valtrex 1 gram 3x a day (for 7 days, I am on my 3rd day of it). I also took a vitamin B complex and multivitamin before the test. Can any combo cause false positive for thc? The amphetamine came up quickly as it normally does but the thc didn't come up for about 5-7 min after the guy administered the test. I am very confused.

AskDocWeb: If you suspect that the test was not conducted properly then you may want to find out the name of that test so that you can research the proper procedure. If you are not good at research we would be happy to do that for you once the name of the test is known.

None of what you are taking is on the list of possible causes for a false positive for THC so it looks like a confirmation test is appropriate to settle the issue.

Kombucha mushroom tea, jwh-018 and jwh-073
Date: 2/22/2012
I recently took a urine test for redwood toxicology center they tested me for jwh-018 and jwh-073. They did not find either in my system. However I tested positive for the metabolites which is the leftover of jwh-018/073. They use a lab certified LC/MS/MA method. Is there any type of food I could have ingested that would mimic those metabolites to create a false positive for this type of test? I heard the kombucha mushroom tea drink would definitely create a false positive is this true and are there any other foods that would do the same?

AskDocWeb: We have read some of the rumors about Kombucha mushroom tea causing false positives but we have yet to see any documentation. So far as we know there is no food that would mimic a result for either jwh-018 or jwh-073.

Date: 2/23/2012
I was recently drug tested for k2 spice and my results came back positive but i have never used this drug is there any way my mood stabilizers and me having dibeties along with taking over the counter cold medicene could have caused this?

AskDocWeb: The tests for K2 and such products are relatively new so there isn't much information available about them. So far we have seen nothing that would cause a false positive for K2 spice.

I am taking the weight loss pill Apidexin. Does this show up positive in a urine test for any illicit drugs?

AskDocWeb: Take a look at the ingredients of Apidexin fat loss pills.
  • Fucoxanthin is a carotenoid found in many species of kelp and algae
  • Razberri-K is a ketone extracted from rapberries
  • Guggul EZ 100 contains both E and Z guggulsterones
  • Thermodiamine
  • Forslean, also known as Coleus Forskohlii
  • Lipolide-SC is a generic name for Sclaeolide
  • Infinergy DiCaffeine Malate is caffeine combined with malic acid
  • Bioperine is also known as Piperine
None of those are on the list of possible causes for a false positive urine drug test. However if you suspect that your test result was a false positive then we suggest you get a confirmation test.

Amitriptyline propanol or nuerontin
Date: 2/23/2012
Can amitriptyline propanol or nuerontin cause false positives on a urine test.

AskDocWeb: Amitriptyline has shown up as LSD and Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA) on urine drug tests.

Tested positive for methadone
Date: 2/24/2012
Help! I am in the military with dx of lupus, fibromyalgia, OA, level 3 carpal tunnel, and multiple cyst n my kidneys. I see a pain clinic for the above and they are saying I tested positive for methadone. I am currently on celebrex, plaqunel, lyrica, oxymorphone, feyntanyl, ambein, and zophran. I am scared to get in trouble for something I didn't do.

AskDocWeb: None of your meds are on our list of possible causes for a false positive test result for methadone. Of course that does not rule out the possibility that your test result might have been a false positive. The only way to do that is by getting a confirmation test on the original sample. If the results come back negative then you are okay.

Positive for meth
Date: 2/25/2012
I am an inpatient at a rehab for meth. I arrived on Jan 14th and all my UAL's were clean thru the Jan 30. On 31 Jan I started taking Tamiflu after I was diagnosed with Influenza A. My UAL's on Feb 1, 3 & 5th came up positive for meth (the 3rd's results were the highest). I was quarantined during this time & absolutely did not use meth in any way shape or form as they claim I have. The other medications I was taking during this time were: levonthyroxine, ibuprofen, advil, aleve, tylenol, emergen-c, vicks vapor rub, robitussin, and vitamins they give out here. Is there any way to prove that their "scientific" evidence is wrong?

AskDocWeb: There may be a way if you can get them to do a confirmation test at an independent lab. The confirmation test is typically either a Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) or high-performance liquid chromatography (LC/MS/MS).

Positive for THC
Date: 2/25/2012
I had surgery and regularly take Hydrocodon-Acetaminophen 5-500 and sometimes Ibuprofen 800 I also eat alot of sesame seed candy and it came back positive for THC. Can any of these cause that?

AskDocWeb: There are several sources that say Ibuprofen may test positive for THC. (See references 1, 14, 16, 18, 20, 26, and 29)

Tested positive for THC
Date: 2/27/2012

AskDocWeb: Did they do a confirmation test? If not then you may want to ask a Lawyer what your options are, which can vary according to your state of residence.

Positive for opiates and amphetamines
Date: 2/27/2012
I tested positive for opiates and amphitamines. I have never used any kind of these. I have suspected my husband of using them. Is it possible that his semen caused me to test positive if he is a user?

AskDocWeb: There are no documented cases of those drugs being transferred through semen in amounts sufficient to show up on a drug test. Given that there are millions of these tests done each year, if it was going to happen it seems likely that we would have heard about it some time in the 8 years that we have been researching this subject.
