Subj: MaHuang with ephedrine
Date: 7/20/2007
I was wondering if a diet supp that contains MaHuang and a proprietary blend of ephedrine can cause a false positive on a GC/MS urinalysis. If so, how can I get documented proof!
Neal

AskDocWeb: You would have to take a bottle to a forensic toxicologist for testing. However, locating one that will work with you is no easy task. They typically work for law enforcement agencies.

Subj: Send me all articles?
Date: 7/21/2007
Please send me all articles or comments on the false positives of cocaine ... Any corresponding statistics about antibiotics and their relationship to false positives.
Douglas

AskDocWeb: Sorry Douglas, we don't send anything by email, you'll have to do your own research.

Subj: Doxycycline
Date: 7/22/2007
I am currently taking doxycycline for a cold prescribed by a doctor. I have a pre employment drug screen in 1 day, will this show up anything.
Eric

AskDocWeb: No this should not show up on a drug screen unless you are overdosing.

Subj: Omeprazole
Date: 7/22/2007
Please see Test Interaction section of the attached. I am prescribed 40mg omeprazole per day due to history of perforated ulcer. I tested positive for THC as a result.
Patty

Subj: Nothing to hide
Date: 7/22/2007
I signed to have random urine screens and pill counts at my Dr.'s office because I had nothing to hide. I take several medications, I take 150Mg wellbutrin 2 in morning, 20mg prilosec 2x day, elmirin 100mg 1 x day, adderal 30mg 2 x day, 3 100mg colace a day, zoloft 50mg 1 x day,1 Multi vitamin, calcium/vitamin d 500mg and l-lysine vitamin all in the morning. In afternoon another 20mg prilosec and 30mg adderal. At night 1 2mg clonzapam and 1 neuroyin 300mg before bed. I get 1 vitamin b12 shot a month after test I got certified letter from Dr saying I had been dropped because none of the medications prescribed showed up in my system. How can that be possible. I'm so confused. I also take lortab as needed for pain for my osteoporosis I have it severe enough to break a bone. I've been trough cancer and radiation. Do you have any ideal what went wrong? Now I'm having trouble getting another family doctor.
Sheila

AskDocWeb: We've not heard of a case where the drugs you're taking did not showing up in tests, it's a mystery.

Subj: Drug list
Date: 7/23/2007
I am currently taking these drugs on a daily basis: Lasix 40MG, Triamterene-HCTZ 75-50MG, Diovan 80MG, Advair inhaler 250-50MCG/DOSE, Ambien 10MG, Levothyroxine 175MCG, Levothyroxine 50MCG, Flonase Inhaler 50MCG/DOSE, Albuterol Inhaler 1.25MG/3ML, Lamictal Oral Tablet 100MG, Aspirin Buffered 325MG None of these are on the list, however I just wanted to know if any of these used TOGETHER would cause them to produce a false positive on an employment urine drug screening test?
Sam

AskDocWeb: (answer revised 6/30/2011) No combination of the drugs listed has been reported to cause a false positive. However, the Lamictal (Lamotrigine) alone may test positive for PCP.

Subj: Positive for Barbituates
Date: 7/23/2007
My daughter was tested at the hospital and it came back positive for Barbituates, Can Advil taken 2 days before or Valtrex taking a week or 2 before cause a false positive?
Patty

AskDocWeb: Advil has been reported to cause a false positive but not Valtrex.

Subj: Some liquid injected in me
Date: 7/25/2007
I am in the military and have recently failed two urine tests within 8 days of each other for cocaine. The first was (171ng) and the second was (565ng) I was diagnosed one week before for mental health and was given a CATscan and they used some liquid they injected in me for that I am not sure what it was but it made me warm and left a metallic taste in my mouth. Also I was prescribed Celexa and Seroquil would any of these cause me to come up positive on a UA? I have never even seen cocaine in person before and am about to lose my 15 year career. Thank you for any help you can give me.
Larry

AskDocWeb: Seroquel is prescribed for schizophrenia and Celexa for depression and neither have been reported to cause a false positive.

Subj: Medication in that class
Date: 7/25/2007
I recently tested positive for benzodiazpines, but have not taken any medication in that class. Can you tell me if there is anything that would give a false positive? I am very concerned, since I did not take anything. Thanx,
Mary

Subj: False positive from energy drink?
Date: 7/30/2007
Zyrtec, w/a energy drink called "Emer'gen-C" it contains MSN 1,000mg will this combination along with Hydrocodo/ASAP 7.5-500 and Gabapentin and Amitriptylin cause a result of false positive for Meth use. I was told that my urine test result came back positive for Meth and I have no clue how this could be possible. My "new" first time RN and physician ran the test for my pain treatment contract. Hydrcodo/APAP 7.5-500 prescription was denied due to the results. What should I do? The RN won't even speak to me now. This is crazy! 3 days now without my hydrocodone and dealing with pretty bad withdrawal symptoms... 17 days before I can get a Dr. visit with my primary Dr. and it will be my first visit with him as he is my new Dr. What a nightmare this is! Thanks for any help you can recommend.
David

AskDocWeb: Who knows what is in the energy drink, but the hydrocodone may get you in trouble. It sounds like you need to seek a pain management specialist to help you. Several people have reported testing positive after consuming energy drinks, enough so that it is beginning to make us wonder if there may be a problem.

Subj: Showing cocaine
Date: 7/31/2007
I had surgery Monday and a week later was given a mouth swab test for work. I do not do drugs however it's showing cocaine. I have no idea what the doctors gave me however they put me out and I was on a breathing machine through out the surgery. I was also given some kind of Tylenol. I've called the surgeon 5 times now about this and he has not replied to me yet. If I can't find a reason why this will show up as it did then I wont get the job anyway...Please, any help?
Kemeron

AskDocWeb: All you can do is to be firm on getting an answer from the surgeon. It is possible to go over the surgeon's head to request action.

Subj: Alli
Date: 8/2/2007
My question is if you can get a false positive by taking Alli (orlistat)?
Milette

AskDocWeb: No, not if you use it as directed.

Subj: Still testing positive for THC after 60 days
Date: 8/5/2007
I stop smoking marjuana 60 days ago. I am taking six 50mg of Tramadol by prescription from my doctor for chronic pain. I am still testing positive for THC after 60 days. Is Ultram/tramadol the reason I am testing positive? Help me because my doctor will stop my pain medication if I can not determine why I am still testing positive for THC after 60 days.
Edward

AskDocWeb: On 2/5/07 a post from Jeff reported that the drug gives a false positive for PCP in a urine test.

Subj: Hot cocaine result
Date: 8/9/2007
I had a hot cocaine result from a urinalysis and didn't take cocaine. What caused this? I have diabetes and hep-c and I am prescribed ibuprofen, Valium, tamazapam and Oxycontin. Could this have caused a false positive?
Richard

AskDocWeb: It is possible, Ibuprofen has been reported to cause a positive for THC, Valium positive for PCP, and Oxycontin for opiates.

Subj: On probation
Date: 8/12/2007
I am on probation and I am taking hyrocodone and oxycodone and tylnol 3 with codine, would I fail for cocaine?
Sandra

AskDocWeb: Probably, but we have wonder why are you taking drugs if you are concerned about failing a drug test?

Subj: Still showing positive
Date: 8/13/2007
hi I need your help on some very important information. I have been officially sober and off any type of benzodiazepines for the past forty days. However, I keep on doing quantitative urine tests for benzos and it has been showing positive for the past 40 days, also going up to high numbers. I was on prozac, seroquel and stomach pain meds such as flagyl, antinal. I stopped all these meds 2 weeks ago and still show positive. What can it be? I haven't been taking any meds for 2 weeks and off benzos for 40 days but having very unfortunates tests results. Help,
Jem

AskDocWeb: What ever is causing the positive hasn't had enough time to get completely out of your system.

Subj: Zyprexa?
Date: 8/14/2007
