Dirty for THC
Someone I know quit smoking marijuana about 2 months ago. He was given 2 depo-medrol steroid shots, he has to take regular drug tests. When he went in to take his tests he was clean, he was given a depo shot, then 30 minutes later he took a drug test and it came up dirty as thc. He's never touched it, what's going on?
AskDocWeb: The depo shot that we are familiar with is used by women for birth control. Please be more specific about what drug was in the shot that he was given.
When coming back clean is a problem
I have been seeing a orthopedic and pain specialist for my back pain. I have a urine test done twice a year. I have had two that come back clean. I am on soma and percocet and celebrex 3 times a day. My doctor said that if it comes clean one more time I will not get new medication. Why would they come back clean? What can I ask the doctor to do so that he knows I am not lying about taking my meds?
AskDocWeb: There are four reasons why it may not show up on a urine test.
When a urine test comes back clean and fails to show the drugs that are expected to be there, it is not unusual for a doctor to stop treating that patient. A clean test in that situation is known to be one of the signs that patients are selling their meds on the street. Doctors who continue to prescribe meds to those patients can lose their license and/or face prison time. It's no wonder that doctors dismiss patients far too often in this situation. This is the result of the government treating people with health problems as if they are criminals.
I quit smoking marijuana in December. I have had several clean urine tests since then. I had an implanon birth control inserted in november & had not had a period until last week. Curiously last week while on my period I tested positive for marijuana and I have not used. I am aware that thc stores in fat cells & reproductive organs, is it possible that my period has released old dormant thc into my bloodstream?
AskDocWeb: Theoretically any activity that stimulates the body's use of fat cells could release the dormant THC causing a positive drug test. However we have seen nothing to indicate that a menstrual period might do that.
Technically speaking THC is not stored in the fat cells, it's the metabolites of THC. Drug tests for marijuana do not detect the actual THC but rather the metabolites or what is left after the body processes the THC. The metabolites are the telltale by-products that prove that someone has used marijuana, but they do not contain actual THC. That is why releasing them through exercise or fat burning does not get you high.
My son is entering the military and could have a random drug test at any time. He has a migraine and we were wondering if Imatrex Nasal would have any affect on the test? Thank You
It might, according to the book Ur-Ine Trouble Imitrex Hydergine® has appeared as a false positive for LSD on urine drug tests. This was confirmed by a Toxicology Lab Technical Brief from Dr. Joseph Graas (See reference 18). However, a confirmation test would eliminate that false positive result.
Dirty UT for hydromorphone(dilaudid)
I see a pain management Dr once a month for Rhematoid Arthritis, nerve damage and 3 herniated discs. I'm prescribed percocet 10/325 4xs a day along with with roxicodone 15mg 3xs a day, also meloxicam 15mg 1xs a day for inflamation. I'm also on zoloft 100mg 1xs a day for OCD, precribed by my GP and Micronor .35 ( oral contraceptive) perscribed by my Gynocologist.
For the past two years, I've never had a problem with a UT before. Last month my test came back positive for hydromorphone( dilaudid), which I never in my life have touched! A couple a days before my appointment I had taken Nyquil and Dayquil along with a new multi- vitamin. Just curious what might be going on? My pain management Dr re-tested me, but said if I fail this test, I can no longer be seen at their facility. Please help! I don't know what I would do without my meds, for I have two small children to take care of. My medication has given me my quality of life back. Without it, I just don't know how I would be able to even get out of bed! Again, any info, is greatly appreciated!
AskDocWeb: Nyquil has shown up as several different false positives on urine drug tests; amphetamines, ecstasy, heroin, opiates, meth, morphine, and methadone. If you are subject to drug tests, you may want to find an alternative.
False positive for benzos?
I am an addict and I recently joined a suboxone treatment clinic. Before starting treatment, I was abusing pain killers and xanax. My doctor has a zero-tolerance policy for benzo use because it can kill you when combined with suboxone. I haven't taken any xanax for 6 weeks now, and am still showing up positive. I am scared to death I am going to get kicked out of the program for something I have not done. The only medication I take is Prilosec. Can this cause a false-positive result for benzos?
AskDocWeb: PPIs, including Prilosec, have been reported to sometimes show up as a false positive for THC but not benzos. The only over-the-counter products on the list that might be a problem are Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) and Miracle herb pills (Chinese herb). If you believe that the test result is a false positive then getting a confirmation test would seem to be your best option.
I'm on probation I currently went to the hospital for bronchitis my drug text was positive for opiates, cocaine. I was prescribed yellow cough syrup anzithromaxis that the reason why I failed my drug test?
AskDocWeb: Some cough syrups have been noted to show up as opiates on urine drug tests but not as cocaine. That would be caused by something else.
