I have a drug test in the morning. I have recently been put on levothyroxine, 50mcg. I must take it every morning before my breakfast. Will this medication result in a positive drug test?
AskDocWeb: Levothyroxine has not been reported to cause any false positives on drug tests for drugs of abuse.
Failed two drug tests
I have just failed two drug tests with my new employer it shows positive for amps thing is I have 4 children and do NOT take drugs. I take sertraline every day for depression and I handle my daughters meds for her ADHD which is concerta and Ritalin could any of these cause a false positive result for amps...
AskDocWeb: Sertraline (Zoloft) has shown up as a false positive on urine drug tests for benzodiazepines and LSD but not for amphetamines. As always, if you think that your test result was a false positive then additional testing should be done to clarify your results.
Positive for opiates and methadone
I took a ten panel urine drug test and I tested positive for opiates and methadone. I have a prescription for MS Contin and that explains the opiate positive but I've never taken methadone in my life. Plus if you take methadone it blocks the opiates from doing their job correctly. So why would I take both. It don't make any sense at all. What could make me test positive for methadone?
AskDocWeb: The substances that have been identified for cross-reacting on immunoassays for methadone is a short list:
Positive for methadone and percaciets
A urine test was given to my daughter and it came back positive for methadone and percaciets. She has not done either of the drugs. She does give her mother her rx that includes one of them. Can contact with the skin show up as a positive? Also when sent to lab will it change the result.
AskDocWeb: It is highly unlikely that enough of those meds would be absorbed through the skin to show up on a drug test. The results from the lab will change only if her test is negative. Have you considered counting pills to see if any are missing?
Meds or food?
My fiancee tested a false pos for methanphines he nor I or no one else does meth we are around. Could it be other meds or food?
AskDocWeb: There are about 50 meds that could appear on a urine test as a false positive. However, there is no food that does that.
What can I take for sinus that will not show up anything? I have looked up about 5 things and they r all showing up it could give a false postive.
AskDocWeb: Although sinus meds may show up as a false positive on the initial urine screen they would not show as false positive on a GC/MS confirmed test. One medication for sinus infection that hasn't been reported to show up on urine tests is Augmentin.
zantac causes positive urine test i think it is meth positive.
I had a urine test for probation and I have not drank any alcohol and I'm devastated. I use alot of hair spray can it show up in urine test Etg test from the lab??? Trying to prove my innocence here and having a really hard time but it did come back saying I consumed alchol and I was on yhouse arrest. NO WAY! Please, if anyone has a solution to why this happened to me let me know I'm so upset cuz I haven't had a drink since October.
AskDocWeb: Please read the post about a Positive EtG results.
Positive for Cocaine
I take several medications due to Stage III Cancer and I recently took a drug test and tested positive for Cocaine which I have NEVER done. I am currently on Oxycontin, Oxycodone, Lortab PRN, Xanax PRN, Valium PRN, amoxicillin for past 30 days and ointments and creams for ulcers in my nose. I take nasal spray over the counter and other then occasional tylenol or ibuprofen that's it. Oh I did take some over the counter allergy meds right before test also. Please help because now my Doctor is stopping all my other meds and I really do need them for my Cancer.
AskDocWeb: Amoxicillin is known to be cross-reactive for cocaine on urine drug tests. However, about the only thing that would convince your doctor that the test result was a false positive is a confirmation test by either the GC/MS or the newer (and more expensive) high-performance liquid chromatography (LC/MS/MS). Getting your doctor to confirm the result may take some doing. If your doctor is reluctant to do that, you might offer to pay for the confirmation test.
Failed a drug test
I failed a drug test today. I tested positive for cocaine. I am pregnant and was prescibed amoxicillin for a uti, tylenol 3 for pain, zofran and compazine for nausea. Can any of these meds give a false positive? If the results from the instant test are sent to the lab will it show where the result came from?
AskDocWeb: As mentioned above amoxicillin may show false positive for cocaine on urine drug tests. The lab will be able to confirm or deny the presence of cocaine but it will not be able to identify the source. It only shows what is actually in the sample. If your test result was a false positive then the lab results will come back as negative.
I know melatonin is naturally present in the system, but have a question about supplements. If someone who takes no prescription or recreational drugs, only over the counter acetaminophen, ibuprophen, or Excedrin headache medicine, takes a melatonin supplement, are there any additives in the supplement, or processing techniques used to make the supplements, that would lead to a false positive in drug testing for a federal job?
AskDocWeb: To our knowledge there are no manufacturing processes that would cause a problem on urine drug tests. Additives are another story. Some Chinese herb pills contain benzodiazepines although that doesn't always show on their packaging. These include Cows Head pills, Miracle Herb pills, Potentsex, and Black Pearls (Tung Sheuh).
You should also be aware of the possibility of a false positive on a urine test that may result from the use of Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, or Excedrin.
