Would Wellbutrin XL 150mg show up as a false positive for vicodine in a drug test?
AskDocWeb: No, they are in different classes of drugs and are not cross-reactive. Wellbutrin XL (bupropion hydrochloride) is an antidepressant of the aminoketone class. Vicodin contains two different medications, hydrocodone (synthetic opiate) and acetaminophen (analgesic).
'(chlorophyll brazilian (Root) Velvet Bean (Bean) cause fales positive on a U.A. please let me know thank you
AskDocWeb: Velvet Bean (Mucuna pruriens) is a common source of the naturally occurring amino acid L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-dopa). Don't let the "L-dopa" fool you. This chemical is produced by the human body from the amino acid L-tyrosine. It does not show up on a urine test for drugs of abuse.
False positive for methamphetamines
I tested a false positive for methamphedamines on a dip pee stick at my psychiatrist's office. I know I have never even seen meth in my life! I am ill and on many prescribed drugs, which I will mention next, but I also just had a kidney infection and took cipro, didnt work well with my illness so got the generic for bactram?? The meds I most recently take up to date, baclofen morphine cymbalta cyclobenzaprine hydroxizine pamote butalbital apap caffiene omeprazol gabapentin (neurotin) 2400mg day meclizine meclizine mirtazipine ibuprofin vicks vapor rub. I prime my daughters nasonex and may have got my meds confused with her citirizine. could any of these cause a false positive for meth? or maybe any of the chemicals combine do that?? or maybe my undiagnosed illness?? +ana 1:1280 high titer speckled pattern?? anemia, b12 deficient, gait ataxia neuropathy etc.
AskDocWeb: Some of your meds are known to produce false positives for other drugs of abuse but not for methamphetamine. However, it is possible to get a false positive test result other reasons, human error, etc. so additional testing with a confirmation test may be advisable.
Lost my job over this
I tested positive for benzodiazepine and i do NOT do drugs. The only things i have taken recently is Zantac, Tums and Aleve. I have taken an oxymetazoline hydrochloride nasal spray but that was over 2 weeks before i was tested. I have lost my job over this even though i have protested vehemently that i am clean. Do i have any recourse?
AskDocWeb: You may have to resort to legal action but you would have to ask a Lawyer if you have a case or not. Good luck.
They screwed up
I had a hair follicle 4 months ago after I got clean from opiates and cocaine. The test result didn't show any cocaine but did show opiates. Three months later I got another one after being clean the whole time and got the result back yesterday, I tested positive for cocaine! I'm going to court tomorrow to get my kids back and they'll think I'm lying about staying clean! Any ideas? I do take vyvanse for ADD. Also, they were supposed to do an extended opiate panel screen and apparently they screwed that up too because I tested negative for opiates and I take Suboxone daily!
AskDocWeb: Hopefully you have a good attorney. The Vyvanse shouldn't cause any problems but be sure to tell your defender about the negative Suboxone test. Good luck.
Positive for methadone, benzos, and antidepressants
I have a question please. I've had about 3 kidney stones in the last month and have been given loratabs, demerol, and vicoprofen for the pain. I now have another one but no appointment til next Friday with a urologist. I went to the emergency room to try to get something to hold off the pain til Friday but the Dr would not give me anything because my urine test was positive for methadone, benzos, and anti depressants. I have never taken any of these. why would it be positive?
AskDocWeb: Sorry Kristen, none of the medications you list would cause a false positive for methadone or benzos or antidepressants. And kidney problem are not known to test positive for those drugs of abuse. Of course it is possible that your sample got switched with another patient but that is rare.
Faint line on drug test
I took my son to the doctor and did labs for all drugs he came back negative. I took him to a counseling session for drug rehab and they did a test and she did a 5 panel, she said the line was faint there for it was positive for marijuana. I called the doctor that did the lab test and she said a faint line was negative. I don't know what to believe.
AskDocWeb: The presence of a test line, regardless of how faint, indicates a negative result. Most drug testing kits state that in the instructions.
Melissa, part 2
I have a question do the nurses really no what they are reading. My son had a neg lab results from a lab then went to a counseling appointment and was told that he is positive for weed but, she said the line was faint so, I am really torn up that he may have used in the last 3 days for he is on house arrest but, I am reading faint means neg so....what is going on
AskDocWeb: The is a myth that the intensity of the line in the test window indicates how close someone is to the 50 ng/ml threshold, commonly used as the cutoff levels for marijuana. According to the manufacturers of the drug testing kits, that is not true. The presence of a test line, regardless of how faint, indicates a negative result.
My friend had a dirty ua for benzos and claims its her medication causing .false positive she's on amptitriptlyn? Is she right
AskDocWeb: No, Amitriptyline may test positive for tricyclic antidepressants but not for benzos.
I have recently tested positive for amphetamines in the hospital and so did my newborn son. I have been on Aldomet for high blood pressure since early in my pregnancy. I again had a positive drug screen yesterday during another hospital stay. I have not been using amphetamines but continue to test positive and I need answers.
AskDocWeb: There are antidotal reports of Aldomet (methyldopa) showing up as a false positive for amphetamines. One of those was from a clinic however there is no documentation on this yet. The answer that would do you the most good would probably come from getting a confirmation test, preferably from an independent lab.
False positive from weight loss products?
I've been taking everslim everlax and green oxygen which are all supposed to help with weight loss. Will they test positive for anything on a drug test?
AskDocWeb: Although some products for weight loss show up on urine drug tests for drugs of abuse, those three are not known to do that.
Upset about positive for opiates
I recently had a urine test and it came back positive for opiates 300 ng/ml whatever that means !!!! I never had used drugs before in my life the only things I take are a men's one a day vitamin and optimum nutrition whey protein after my workouts at the gym. My Dr allowed me to take another test cause he did not believe it either can you tell me what could cause me to be positive ? I'm confused and very upset over this
AskDocWeb: Our database lists over a hundred possible causes of a false positive for opiates. According to The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which is a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the cut-off level for opiates is 2000 ng/ml. Your 300 figure could be caused simply by eating a poppy seed bagel, which is why they raised the cut-off level for the (EMIT) Test. The "ng/ml" stands for Nanograms per Milliliter. Going by federal standards your test is not positive unless it is 2000 ng/ml or higher.
