Failing a benzo test
9/11/2012
My son was recently in a car accident where he fell asleep but now they are trying to get him for failing a benzo test. He is a recovery addict and has been clean for 1 year. Xanax was one of his drugs of choice but he has not took anything because he is on probation and does not want to go to prison. The day he wrecked he said the only thing he took was his prozac, drunk a monster drink and took 800 mg of ibuprofen. He works it construction where he is working around several chemicals. He smokes methol cigarettes. Would a hair test be able to tell if he had took something in the last month that would show up as benzo? He is really worried because he has been trying to do the right thing.
Melinda

AskDocWeb: The menthol cigarettes would not affect the drug test results. It sounds like what he needs is to prove that the original test result was a false positive. As far as we know, the only way to do that is to get a confirmation test on the original sample. A hair test probably would not be sufficient for the court but you would need to ask a Lawyer to be sure.

Antibiotics and OTC allergy meds
9/11/2012
I failed a drug test for benzo, and I have never taken any. I was taking 2 antibiotics, oxyelite pro (fat burner), and otc allergy meds. What went wrong?
Shaina

AskDocWeb: It could have been your allergy med. According to Erowid.org, allergy medications that contain diphenhydramine may test false positives for benzodiazepines. Fortunately a confirmation will rule out false positives caused by allergy meds.

Apidexin
9/11/2012
Is apidexin a NCAA approved drug? Please advise.
Tom

AskDocWeb: Unfortunately the NCAA does not publish a complete list of banned drugs, they only give examples. If you are subject to NCAA drug testing, check with your athletics department staff before consuming any medication or supplement.

False Positive Urine Tests for THC
9/11/2012
I got a false positive for THC, I'm on Flector Patches, oxycodone, MS contin 30mg, clonazepam 2-3mg, fioricet/codeine, soma and Omeprazole 40mg. My daughter found a web site that said that Flector patches do give a false positive but I can not find it, my Dr. wants the details printed out! Would love to give him this information too! Thank you!!!
Carol

AskDocWeb: The only one of those that might show up as THC is the Omeprazole (Prilosec). If you go to http://www.rxlist.com/protonix-drug/side-effects-interactions.htm, the reference to "False Positive Urine Tests for THC" is listed under Drug Interactions. Note that Protonix and Omeprazole are both PPIs.

What are my rights?
9/11/2012
I have been on methadone for 3yrs now. Recently I have been lowering my dose from 65 milligrams down to 15 milligrams. I want to be able to take a Motrin for my Siatica pain & not have to be on this the rest of my life. Each month is a random urine test. However, apparently last month my urine came out clean... No traces of methadone, urin, or the fact that the color wasn't red as I was on my menstral that day.. They say it was bottled water it was so clean..Now because of this, I asked to degrade myself by having a female with me while I test. now I'm worried that this outside lab were they send to be tested will come back with drugs in it... What are my rights? Im so scared now because i do NOT do drugs, or pee Bottle Water.
Liz

AskDocWeb: When it comes to drug testing you rights vary according your State of residence. You can consult with a local attorney or ask a Lawyer online.

Positive for spice
9/11/2012
I am on probation and I was just tested for spice today with a dipstick test and it came back positive for spice but I havent done any of that in a while why the false positive? My P.O. is gonna send the sample to the lab to test it is that gonna make a difference? i dont want to go to jail for a false positive. help.
Kim

AskDocWeb: The reason they send your sample to a lab is to confirm the results and yes, it does make a difference because the confirmation test is much more accurate. If it comes back negative then you had a false positive.

False positive for marijuana
9/12/2012
I just did a drug test and received a positive for marijuana. I have never smoked! I have a fatty liver, though when I called my gastroenterologist, he said it wouldn't have affected it. I also take Bayer back and body every six hours religiously after a car vs pedestrian crash I was involved in as the pedestrian. I'm also on cyclobenzaprine and ibuprofen 800mg. Could any of these have sparked a false positive?!
Marc

AskDocWeb: Cyclobenzaprine might test false positive for Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA) but not for marijuana. On the other hand, the Ibuprofen is a real possibility. Several sources say it could show up as a false positive for marijuana (THC) (References: 1, 3, 16, 18, 29, and 48).

I have smoked
9/13/2012
I just took a drug test and tested positive for a drug that I have never used before, cocaine, but did not test positive for something that I have done within the last 6 months, weed. I took the nail test and I was told that this drug screen goes back to a year! I take Phentramin-d hydrochloride which contains 1,3,7 trimethylxanthine and 1,3 dimethylpentylamine as a dietary supplement, but that is all. Can you help me understand why I tested positive for cocaine, but I did not test positive for weed when I have smoked it several times within the last year???
Tiffany

AskDocWeb: Sorry Tiffany, this forum is for those who do NOT use illegal drugs.

Cost of confirmation test: $180
9/13/2012
I have been taking a diet pill called Slimvox for serveral months. I also regularly take midol for severe cramps. I took a pre employment urine test a few days ago for my dream job and tested positive for THC. I have considered suicide seriously since then as this was my chance to move on to better things for my family. I DONT USE DRUGS and i can find very little information on the herbs contained in this pill.

The employer offered me the "option" to have the test confirmed at a cost of $180. That is not feasible in my current situation. I made staright A's all through school, am an active member of my community and worked hard for 2 years against all odds to get to this point, only to be bested by a "herbal supplement". I am scheduled to have a doctor call me later this week to discuss this supplement and its ingrediants and possible effects. If you have any sdvice on how I can turn this in my favor, please advise. I am about to lose everything.
Pamela

AskDocWeb: The ingredients in Slimvox appear to be Green Tea, Chocamine, Cinnamon, Kelp-A, L-tyrosine, Fennel seed, Fenugreek Seed, Razberi-k, Soy Isoflavones, Dong Quai, Damiana-A, and Wild yam root. None of these show up on urine drug tests.

You might give some thought to getting that $180 confirmation test. If you have something you could sell to raise the money or possibly borrow it, that would seem to be worth doing if your test result is a false positive. Once you are working you could pay it back.
