Novocain
10/14/2012
Can novicane come positive for cocaine i hair follicle test
Vance

AskDocWeb: According to the Blue Grass Drug Screen company, Novocain may test positive for opiates. It has not been reported to show up as cocaine.

Liprinosil or Tramadol?
10/14/2012
Recently took drug test and tested positive for cocaine - I dont use drugs take Lipronosil for Highblood pressure and Tramodol for pain. Did either of these drugs make a positive result
Tammy

AskDocWeb: Neither Liprinosil nor Tramadol (Ultram) would show up as a false positive for cocaine.

Chronic med condition
10/14/2012
Does having a chronic med condition affect how the blood metabolizes the liver and give wrong BAC levels?
Ash

AskDocWeb: The liver breaks down or metabolizes the alcohol that you consume. If you have liver disease that may mean that the liver takes longer to process the alcohol, which can have an effect on your BAC level. That doesn't mean that the level is wrong, it just takes longer for the level to come down.

Acronym: BAC is an acronym for blood alcohol concentration or content.

Tested positive for Morphine
10/15/2012
I went to my doctor today and they said that I tested positive for Morphine(MS). I have not taken anything like that and the company that does the drug test for my doctor said that I tested positive for 1358ng/ml. How can I test positive for something that I have absolutely not taken. Please get back to me as soon as possible with your answer to my question cause this has really stressed me out and I have a heart condition and I am not suppose to be stressed.
Judy

AskDocWeb: Putting a number on your test results (1358ng/ml) indicates that they may have used a GC/MS test to confirmed it. In order to determine an appropriate response, you need to find out what kind of test was used, whether or not the results were confirmed, the type of confirmation, and if the lab was certified by SAMHSA, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

One possible explanation is that you may be taking one of the brand names of morphine without realizing what that is or a medication that contains morphine. Some of the many brand names for morphine are Actiskenan, Algedol, Amidiaz, Analmorph, Anafil, Analfin, Anamorph, Astramorph, Avinza, Capros, Cloruro Morfico Braun, Compensan, Continue, Contalgin, DepoDur, Depolan, Dimorf, Dolcontin, Dolo Moff, Doloral, Doltard, Dulcontin, Duralgin, Duralmor, Duramorph, Embeda, Epidural, Epimorph, Filnarine, GNO, Graten, G-Morphine, Infumorph, Kadian, Kapabloc, Kapanol, LA Morph, Loceptin, Longphine, M-Beta, M-Dolor, M-Eslon, M-Long, M-Retard, M-Stada, Malfin, Maxidon, MCR, Meconium, Meslon, Micro-Morphine, MIR, Mogetic, Morapid, Moraxen, Morcap, Moretal, Morfenil, Morficontin, Morfin, Morfin Meda, Morfina, Morin, Morph, Morphanton, Morphex, Morphgesic, Morphin, Morphini, Morphinum, Morphiphar, Morphitec, Morphium, Morstel, MOS, Moscontin, Morstel, Mortificontin, MS Contin, MS Direct, MS Long, MS Mono, MS/L, MS/S, MSI, MSIR, MSP, MSR, MST Continus, MST Unicontinus, Mundidol, MXL, Neocalmans, Nepenthe, Noceptin, Novo-Morphine, Oblioser, Oglos, OMS Concentrate, Onkomorphin, Opitard, Opsalvina, Oramorph, Ordine, Painbreak, PMS-Morphine, Q-Med Morphine, RA Morph, Ratio-Morphine, Relimal, Relipain, Repriadol, Rescudose, RMS, Roxanol, S-Morphine, Sevre-Long, Sevredol, Skenan, Slo-Morph, Slovalgin, SRM-Rhotard, Statex, Stellaphine, Stellorphinad, Stellorphine, Substitol, Uni Mist, Vendal, and Zomorph.

Effexor?
10/15/2012
I always test positive for PCP, Ive never touched the stuff. I do however take antidepressants. Im wondering if Effexor could cause a false positive. My DR has never been concerned about it, but it bugs me because I know Ive never taken it.
Tracy

AskDocWeb: Hi Tracy. It turns out that that is one bug you can let go. According to Blue Grass Drug Screen, one of the best known in the drug testing business, Effexor Tablets (venlafaxine hydrochloride) may test false positive for PCP on urine drug tests (Reference 52).

Ludeca
10/16/2012
I tested positive for suboxone, but never taken it. I have started new medication called Ludeca, could that give me a false positive?
Tina

AskDocWeb: Sorry Tina, Ludeca is not in our database. Are you sure of that spelling?

Aenemic?
10/16/2012
I have been clean of marijuana for 70 days and I still have failed urine tests. Is this because I am aenemic?
Nicole

AskDocWeb: Anemia is not known to affect drug testing for drugs of abuse. The detection time for Marijuana depends on the Marijuana's strength and potency as well as the person's physiology. In some cases it can stay in the body for as long as 90 days after last using it.

Roxicodone (Oxycodone)
10/16/2012
I had surgery and they had me on dilaudid, my drug test came back positive for amphetamines...now I am on roxicontin or roxicodone something like that will that also cause a positive result for amphetamines or anything else or that matter? Please let me know as soon as possible I have a urine test tomorrow and have to let them know.
Aimee

AskDocWeb: Roxicodone (Oxycodone) is an opiate. It belongs to a class of drugs called opioid analgesics. It does not cause a false positive for amphetamines. If you are getting a drug test, it is in your best interest to disclose all the prescription drugs you use.

Positive test for cocaine?
10/16/2012
I take oxycodone alprazolam and carisoprodol daily. I sometime take ip to 45mg of the oxy up to 4 mg of alprazolam and about 700mg's of the carisoprodol daily based on how active and how mych pain im in. Well i took a drug test for the state and cocaine was present. I didnt do any cocaine. Are there any cases out these where these drugs compound together would make me have a positive test for cocaine? This is very very importAnt to get to the bottom of this they need to hear back from me today.
Jamen

AskDocWeb: We know of no combination of those drugs that would show up as cocaine on a urine test. However, please note that some people with diabetes or kidney disease have tested false positive for cocaine. The reason for this is still unknown but it has been verified by GC/MS testing.

protein in urine
10/16/2012
I am testing positive of alcohol I do not consum alcohol. I would like to know if protein in urine could cause that? If not what is causing it?
Tomas

AskDocWeb: The EtG (Ethylglucuronide) tests are known to produce a lot of false positives. Here is some of the substances that can cause a false positive ETG test for alcohol.
  • alcohol (of course)
  • balsamic vinegar
  • beauty product that contains SD Alcohol 40
  • breath drops
  • cooking Vanilla is 30% alcohol by volume
  • extra sour dough bread
  • fake alcohol such as O'doull's, Near beer, and Fre' wine products
  • hair dye
  • mouthwash
  • soy sauce
  • teriaki sauce
  • waterless hand soap. (Proven by recent clinical study)
Sterling Reference Laboratories states that the EtG (Ethylglucuronide) test is a sensitive biomarker of ethyl alcohol exposure and that a low-level positive EtG could result from sources other than beverage alcohol. A low level test result may be termed an innocent positive if it is believed to be caused by other sources. Also see the post by Stephen.
