I was on oxycodone for 5 years from neck surgery now its been over a year. I been off them and bout 5 months ago I started tramodol for my neack pain(have 3 cadiva bones fused and plated in there from car accident) and today my dr tells me I came up positive for morphine, I do have a few cocktails a night and smoke ciggarettes and for my anxiety I'm pescribed zanex but I take it all as perscribed is there any way that would come up as morphine in my urine? what could cuase a faulse positive for morphine?
Pissed patient

AskDocWeb: There are about 50 possible causes of a false positive for morphine. Most of them are medications used to treat allergies or coughs. A few are meds that contain codeine. While none of the meds you are taking are on that list, you can still contest the results if you think you have a false positive.

Availability of drug test results
10/22/2012
I took a dot drug test and the lab will only tell me positive and negative results i asked for results for the gc/ms test and they will not give them to me is there anyway to have them released to me or do i need a lawyer to intervine and possibly have them subponed
Mark

AskDocWeb: It appears that the answer to your question depends on where the test was performed. There are State regulations as well as federal ones involved. Your State Attorney General's Office may or may not be able to help but it's worth giving them a call. If you ask a Lawyer be sure to tell them your state of residence. If would be helpful to other if you could share your results. Good luck.

Presumptive positive for Buprenorphine on drug screen
10/22/2012
One time only 4 months ago on a screening urine test I had a presumptive positive for Buprenorphine. I take urine tests for pain management. Every previous tests came back negative and every test after was also negative. I do not and have never taken Buprenorphine. I have no need my pain has been managed for a many months on my curent medicines. My medications are: Tylenol with codeine, Soma, Tegretol, Synthroid Ambien as needed (average 6-7 times a month) and Dyazide

The doctor immediately repeated the urine screen which was negative. Plus I volunteer to come in for random screens for 2 months always negative every time. The Buprenorphine has never shown up again and I am tested at random intervals. I take my pain management contract very seriously. I just want to clear my name, this was so degrading, but I did everything in my power to clear my name, but this will follow me for ever. I have always honored my contract, I take the rules very seruoiously and followed them exactly.

The only possibe explanation is the lab the doctor sends my urine screen too, also does urine screens for Buprenorphine clinics. Please explain what a presumptive positive on my urine screen mean? Please help, any advice would be truly appreciated. Thank you, AskDocWeb.
Wendy

AskDocWeb: The meaning of a presumptive positive depends on the context. In some cases it may simply be a heads up that there might be a problem and that the original sample needs to be confirmed by either GC/MS or LC/MS/MS. In other cases it may mean that you are guilty of drug abuse until proven innocent. You will have to discuss this with your doctor to find out what the procedure is for your situation. If additional testing fails to confirm the presence of Buprenorphine, that will be noted in your medical record.

Reginald

AskDocWeb: No, Diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam) has shown up as a false positive for marijuana (References: 3 and 18) but not for benzodiazepines.

False positive for THC?
10/23/2012
I take b-12 and nexproxen. I took a unine drug test today and it came back positive for THC. I have never done THC. I also take seizure meds. would this cause me to test positive?
Jamie

AskDocWeb: Hi Jamie. False positives occur more often than some people would have you believe. Your test result could have been caused by the Naproxen. Our database has 3 sources that say Naproxen may cause a false positive for THC (References: 3, 16, and 18). Depending on which seizure med you use, that is also a possibility (Letter from former president of The American Academy of Pediatrics). A confirmation test can eliminate such false positives.

False positive from oral sex?
10/23/2012
My husband is perscribed Methadone 10mg and takes 6 a day for the last 2 months! Would his sperm make me positive for a drug test after oral sex??????
Minnie

AskDocWeb: The possibility that oral sex might make you fail a drug test was examined back in April of 2009 by Ed Cone of ConeChem Research and Bill Thistle of Psychemedics Corp. They concluded that while it is possible to ingest small amounts of drugs this way, it would not be enough to fail a drug test.

There is also a 1996 paper that looked at the possibility of cocaine-using males transmitting enough drug in their semen during oral sex for their partner to test positive on a drug test. According to that paper, chronic users might excrete a peak level of 0.01 milligrams of cocaine per gram of semen after the consumption of a particularly heavy dose. Since a typical ejaculation contains around two grams of semen, it would take 10,000 sexual encounters before a nonuser would have a risk of failing a drug test.

Methamphetamines?
10/23/2012
Yes, I have crohns disease and back issues any way to the point i am on probation! I have never failed a urine test in 4 years! because i dont use! but i take, ranididine(xantac), bentyl(dyclomine), phenergen(promethezine), oxycodone, klonapin, soma, and was taking xanax. also otc nasal spray 4way with phenylephrine and other otc sinus meds can you pin point out what it was or give me some back up what meds could have given this on a 9 panel drug test....please?! Now my PO said I was positive for MA methamphemines! sorry for spelling! I never! I mean ever used this drug or any drug in my life!!! I am on probation for fighting not drugs! So he said he let it go but is suspicious. I want some help please so I can show him I am sober as a judge! thank you all in advance!
Chris

AskDocWeb: We have no way to pin point exactly what caused your drug test result but allergy and sinus meds are real possibilities. See if any of them are on this list. Your other medications are not known to cause a false positive for methamphetamines.
