False urine test for methadone?
1/6/2013
I had a false urine for methodone I dont know what that is /I take zanex, celexa, robaxin, benadril, lisapro.
KIM

AskDocWeb: None of those are known to cause a false positive for methadone. However, if you think that your test result was a false positive then getting a GC-MS confirmation test might be a good idea.

This hurts to the core!
1/7/2013
Today i had 2nd appt. with NP at pain center. My doctor that I saw for 2 yrs. relocated so I was referred to this new NP. My first visit was Dec. 7, 2012 and 2nd visit today 1/7/2012. When I went in after taking urine test what came out of her mouth next almost made me fall out of my chair. She stated i tested positive for cocaine. It hurt me to the core. I have never used cocaine, marijuana, alcohol. I do smoke cigarettes. I tried to tell her that it must be a mistake. She didn't want to hear it. When I walked back into the lobby my sister said I had a horrible look on my face and she immediately jumped up to comfort me thinking the NP had given me some awful news like cancer or something. I can't find words to explain how painful it is to be accused of something you KNOW never happened. It couldn't have been any worse had she slapped me in the face.

I'm on alot of meds, and she prescribes oxycodone for degenerative disc disease and bulging disc. What can I do to get this lie off my medical records and prevent this from happening again? Only god above, my family and friends know that I do not use drugs or any type of alcohol. I do smoke cigarettes which I now dislike very much and would love to quit. Please give me some advice and what if this happens again. My sister and I wrecked our brains trying to figure out why she made such an accusation. We even began to ask if maybe the very young nurse was using my urine possibly for someone else (such as a friend) and using their urine for me. I've gotten much needed information from your site. I've never heard of a false positive.

I will request a g/c or m/s if this happens again. I will call tomorrow to see what she says about my urine test today. Please tell me what I need to do to clear up the results from 12/7/2012. Is there anyway to go back and prove her report is very inaccurate. I'm devastated. Been seeing 5 dr.s only a regular base for 3 yrs. and several ER visits and many lab tests and nothing like this has ever happened. My family keep saying: "try not to worry about it, because you know and we all know you never used drugs." I can't get over it. It's similar to being accused of theft or murder, but knowing that you are innocent.
Glenda

AskDocWeb: Hi Glenda, welcome to the War on Drugs. It's okay to get angry about the injustice of the situation. You can use that as motivation to do something about it. You don't have to wait for it to happen again to get that GC-MS confirmation test. In order to eliminate false positive results from the test of 12/7/2012, the confirmation test must be performed on the original sample. Now that you know that there is such a thing as a false positive, whenever you have to get a drug test you will know to ask about how they handle false positive test results.

Diet pill Phenphedrine?
1/9/2013
Will the diet pill Phenphedrine make you fail a drug test? One of the ingredients in it is Phenylethylamine and some websites are saying you could fail a drug test due to this ingredient, others are saying "it's just a diet pill!" Any information would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!!
Lucy

AskDocWeb: Phenphedrine contains the ingredient 1,3-dimethylamylamine (DMAA), also referred to as methylhexaneamine or MHA, dimethylpentylamine (DMP or 4-methylhexan-2-amine), Geranamine, and geranium oil. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine) DMAA (dimethylamylamine) may show false positive for amphetamines.

False positive for Marijuana?
1/9/2013
I tested positive for Marijuana and havent smoked in 4 months can any of these medicines cause a false positive Gas-X, Levaquin, Mens one a day, Prilosec, Loratadine, wellbutrin, Geodon, Lisinopril, Fenofibrate, vytorin. Thanks you.
Stephen

AskDocWeb: The only one of your meds that might show up as a false positive for marijuana is the Prilosec. Several of the PPIs are known to sometimes test positive for THC (Reference: 37).

Testing positive for suboxone
1/9/2013
I am on tramadol 50mgs 2 times for day and that is all I take, and I keep testing positive for suboxone and I am really not taking that and if I wanted to be on the suboxone program they told me that I could be I am really confused as to why this keeps happening.
April

AskDocWeb: Sorry April, our database does not list anything that would show up as a false positive for Suboxone.

Failed for oxy
1/10/2013
Hi, I failed for oxy i did not touch any thing besides some vitamins what makes you fail for oxy i will go to jail tomorrow plzz help me and fast.
Bob

AskDocWeb: We are going to assume that you are referring to oxycodone as that is a schedule II drug (C-II) under The Controlled Substances Act (CSA) indicating it has a high potential for abuse. The list of substances that might show up as a false positive for oxycodone is a short one:
  • Hydrocodone (Reference: 41 and 57)
  • Hydromorphone (Dilaudid®) (References: 57
  • Oxymorphone (Numorphan) (References: 57
  • Suboxone (Buprenorphine) (Reference: 54)
Any positive result on a urine test should be confirmed by more accurate testing, especially if you are facing legal consequences.

METHYLDOPA
1/10/2013
I wrote you 7/6/2011, they retested my sample and they CONFIRMED that Methyldopa was the reason for me testing positive for amphetimines. Actually, the levels were way high one time, really low the next. CPS made me go to INPATIENT rehab while I was 8 mos pregnant so they could make sure I wasn't lying and to dispense my methyldopa prescription and urine test me regularly. Initially, I was testing positive for amphetimines, but no "street drug" types of amphetimines showed up. Therefore they thought I was abusing something I could buy "over the counter" If anyone has this problem, tell them to have their sample restested for METHYLDOPA and they will find out it all depends on what time you take it compared to when you give your sample as to how the levels vary.
Marcie

AskDocWeb: Thank you Marcie! You may save someone else from going through what you did.

Positive for oxymorphone
1/10/2013
Help!!! I tested positive on a test for oxymorphone. I've never taken that. I do take lortab 10mg, afrin, melixcam, trazadone, xanaflex, elavil and eat poppy seeds in my yogurt. Can that make me test positive?
Maureen

AskDocWeb: Sorry Maureen, our database doesn't show anything that might cause a false positive for oxymorphone. However, that doesn't rule out that possibility. To do that you would need to get a confirmation test, preferably a GC-MS test from a certified laboratory.
