Electronic cigs
1/16/2013
I recently switched to electronic cigs and i was wondering if propelyne glycole or vegtable glycerine could come out in a drug test for perscription meds?
Blanco

AskDocWeb: To date there are no reports of any kind of false positives on urine drug tests for drugs of abuse from those using electronic cigs. Of course this does not guarantee that you will pass the drug test.

Tested positive for amphetamines
1/17/2013
I took coq10 briefly, & recently tested positive for amphetamines. I also take tegretol 600mg, & levoxyl 175mcg. I wouldn't even know how or where to GET an amphetamine, & am so upset by this. Do you know, AskDocWeb, if coq10 could be the problem? Thank you for your time.
Connie

AskDocWeb: We have 145 entries for substances that might show up as an amphetamine on urine drug screens. None of what you have taken is on that list. However, there are other possible reasons for testing positive so get a confirmation test. The GC/MS test is designed to eliminate false positives.

Simple and not so sweet
1/18/2013
I had a work related minor injury and voluntarily agreed to urine test after the injury was cared for. I tested positive for Meth and amphetamines. I was in shock when the company doctor began asking me about my current prescriptions. He listed drug after drug and most my responses where of course no. I am very quiet about my health and in fact i am HIV +, and in the past 18 months i have been treated for neuro syphilis, which the treatment caused a blood disease that is now in my spine as Osteomyelitis, and heal spur, and high blood pressure, I wont try to list the meds i am on. Needless to say I am unemployed due to gross policy violation. I was denied benefits and with all that I have learned about false positives. They are in for a fight!! I guess, I had no clue and I may have changed my destiny and wont get it back.

Liver enzymes?
1/18/2013
Hi my son is currently in jail waiting for his sentence for failing his drug test while on drug-court. He has been clean for 11 months and denies that he used. I know his history and after long conversations with him I beleive him. They want him to admit he used and they will release him to a therapuetic community for 8 months but he refuses to admit to somethin he didn't due. They tested his urine 3 times in a two day period and all three came back positive for heroine. At one time my son's liver enzeymes were high due to his drug use. Can this cause a false positive for heroine? don't know what to do -but he doesn't belong in prison and don't know where to turn.
Jeanine

AskDocWeb: Liver disease has been noted to cause false positives for opiates as well as ecstasy, THC and amphetamines (References: 3, 16, 20, and 21) on urine drug screens and heroin is an opiate. Was his test confirmed by GC/MS by an independent laboratory?

Tested positive for THC
1/18/2013
I have had two drugs test did for employment.and I tested positive for thc and I feel that I should stop takin my atripla because I need work .wat should I do.are there any other medd I can take?
M.

AskDocWeb: Although Atripla (Efavirenz) may test false positive for THC on a urine test, that result is eliminated by a confirmation test. Even if you have to pay for the confirmation test it is worth getting to clear your record. Hopefully you told those doing the testing that you take Atripla.

Always consult with your healthcare provider before stopping any prescription medication. If you also have the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and you stop taking Atripla, you may get a flare-up of your hepatitis. A "flare-up" is when the disease suddenly returns in a worse way than before.

Very upset
1/18/2013
I am really upset. I was givin a drug test by my dr to get refills on my tramadol and Tylenol 3, I also take naproxen. I went to the dr to get a flu shot and he said I was doin drugs and said I tested pos for suboxine and morphine and other opioids I've never taken any of those. As I was leavin the dr the nurse saw someone else tests were mixed in with mine but doesn't explain the suboxine or morphine. I am really upset and don't know what to do.
Lisa

AskDocWeb: Since there was a mix-up you may be able to get retested and this time have them verify the results with a GC/MS confirmation test. Even if they will not retest you may still be able to have the first test sample sent out for confirmation. That is the only way to eliminate false positives.

Short Story: New pain management doctor
1/19/2013
First visit November 2012, negative urine test. Second urine test December 2012, false-positive urine test for elavil, methadone, and Percocet. Third urine test January 18th 2013 positive for methadone and methamphetamines!!!! WTH is going on???

Medications I take Daily: Lortab 7.5/500mg(1-4xday), Lunesta 3mg(bedtime), Zanaflex 4mg(2-3xday), Protonix 40mg (2xday), Singulair 10mg daily, Semprex-D 8/60mg (2xday), Lyrica 100mg (2xday), and Voltaren 75mg (2xday). I use a nose spray off and on for chronic congestion.

At the end of November, after the First appt., I took Zofran 8mg every 8 hours for nausea. Horrible stomach cramps landed me at ER where I was given morphine for pain and Zofran for nausea in IV. Second ER visit was in December before the second appt with pain doctor. I was given dye for a CT scan and HYDA scan and in January was sedated 2 different times for endoscopy and 2 colonoscopies. Is there anything here that would cause false-positives?

The lab they sent my sample to in Florida to confirm test results came back negative. I have gone through my medicine cabinet to try and figure out what it is that is causing these monthly false-positives!!! Excedrin Migraine for the occasional migraine, nasal spray for chronic congestion, and Cephalexin 500mg 3x day for sinus infection. Please advise!
Amy

AskDocWeb: Some nasal sprays have been reported to show false positive for amphetamines and/or morphine (Reference 1, 26 and 29). Of course the drugs used for sedation could also show up on urine tests. Whoever did the endoscopy and colonoscopies can tell you what medications were used for the times that you were sedated. Since you know that you are prone to false positives, it may be a good idea to always check on how a new pain management clinic handles false positives before getting tested. Good luck Amy.
