Meridia FeedbackIf you use Meridia, please help others by adding your feedback. What would you tell someone considering using this product? Please remember that we do not give medical advice. That is for your local health care provider, who is familiar with your medical history.Subj: Feel like I lost weight Date: 5/18/2006 I am taking meridia and I have been told it is discontinued is this true? I have been taking it about a month I feel like I lost weight. I don't want to weigh myself yet. How can I order it online? HELP! Lori AskDocWeb: Your feelings are not an adequate test of reality. If you don't measure your progress by keeping track of your weight then you may not be mature enough to take this drug. Subj: Pulsing feeling Date: 5/26/2006 Today is my first day taking meridia 15mg. I was previously taking cymbalta for depression. I was told to stop taking the cymbalta and wait a few days before taking the meridia, which I did. I've been getting headaches from not taking the antidepressant and I thought that would get better today because meridia also increases seratonin, but I'm still having headaches and a pulsing feeling through my body. How long will it take for meridia to get into my system and help me to start feeling better? Alyssa AskDocWeb: Sounds like you need to talk to your doctor about this. Meridia is known to cause headaches, migraines, anxiety, and depression in some poeple. Subj: Anxiousness Date: 6/4/2006 I have been on Meridia for 8 days now and in general have liked how I feel. No constant hunger, I feel more in control of what and when I eat, but I am becoming increasingly anxious. Buzzy at times, quick breathes like I am having a panic attack. Could this be he Meridia? kay AskDocWeb: yes it could, make an appointment with your doctor to discuss this problem and don't wait too long. Subj: Severe constipation Date: 6/6/2006 Have been taking Reductil (15 mg) for close to 6 weeks now. I have lost weight; about 4-5 kg. This is the good news. Didn't exercise too much in the first three weeks and started running (at moderate speed only recently. Initially, I had headaches, nausea and had to keep drinking insane amount of water due to perpetual thirst. Subsequently, it became better and I thought that the symptoms have subsided. However, my period is slightly delayed and I have been eating more than I have in the first 4 weeks. Now though, I am plagued by severe constipation. Anyone with suggestions? Works well but AskDocWeb: You might try taking a stool softener. Subj: Losing weight but want to get pregnant Date: 6/20/2006 I was on 10mg meridia for 6 months, I started out taking a pill every 2 days (due to headaches) and then after a few weeks every other day and then finally every day. I was glad I stayed with it because I not only lost 30lbs but I slept better, didn't obsess about food, had greater energy, better mood stability, my insulin level improved greatly, etc. My question is I still have weight to lose but am trying to get pregnant by fertility drugs (I have PCOS), will this harm the fetus if I would become pregnant?? Thanks Valerie AskDocWeb: Ideally you would wait to get pregnant until after you have lost the weight you want to lose. Taking Meridia while trying to get pregnant or nursing is not recommended. Subj: Meridia rash Date: 6/27/2006 I've been on Meridia / Reductil for 5 days now and have noticed a rash on my legs and arms in recent days. I'm assuming it's from Meridia as rash is listed as a side effect. However, I don't want to stop taking it as it has been GREAT for curbing my appetite. Is there any danger in continuing if I have a rash? I can live with it if it continues to curb my appetite like this! Lori AskDocWeb: A slight rash may be okay but make sure that your doctor knows about this and let him decide if it is safe to continue. Subj: Appetite Date: 6/27/2006 I have been taking Meridia 15mg for the past 3 1/2 months now. I think I have only lost maybe 5 or 7lbs so far. Don't get me wrong it does incredibly suppress my appetite but very, very slow process. Does anyone else feels the same way. Leeza AskDocWeb: It should be working better than that. Remember that you have to combine this drug with an exercise program to get good results. Subj: Allergic reaction? Date: 7/7/2006 I took Meridia 10 mg for the first time today. Within of 1 hour, I started to feel an intense tingling and itching on my scalp and it traveled all over my body from head to toe. I immediately looked up on the net to see if this was a common allergic reaction people had. What I found out was that it was a rare severe reaction, and I learned it was not so rare after all, several people complaint of the same type of feeling. I immediately took benadryl for the rest of the day and night to tame this awful feeling. I felt like a guinea pig for Abbott Labs. I'm so pissed that I spend my hard earned money to buy this medication and to end of throwing it down the toilet, because of its side effects. Shame on you Abbott Labs, take this product off the market, before you cause someone to die from the asthma/allergic reactions. Folks save your money, don't buy this product it's not worth your pretty penny. Kim Subj: Happy with Meridia Date: 7/10/2006 I have been taking Meridia for just over a month and so far I have lost 15 lbs! I have not noticed any out of the norm side effects except for the loss of appetite which is great because I use to OVER eat to the point where I felt sick, but not anymore. I couldn't be happier! Tara Subj: Changes in menstrual cycle Date: 7/12/2006 I've been on Meridia for 3 weeks now, and have been using Birth control methods while on it. I should have started by period 5 days ago. I've taken 2 pregnancy test and they say negative. In all of the research that I did before I got on the drug, there was no mention of it affecting your menstrual cycle. Is this something that I should be worried about? I don't want to harm the baby if I am pregnant. Anne AskDocWeb: Meridia is known to cause some menstrual disorders in less than one percent of users so yes, it does affect the mensis cycle. Subj: Taking meridia Date: 7/13/2006 When is the best time of day to take meridia? Patty AskDocWeb: In the morning. Subj: Very dizzy Date: 7/15/2006 I have been taking 10mg for 6 weeks. Really crave sweets. Very dizzy, so much so that I have to hold on to walls sometimes. I have lost only 2 lbs. I have aggressive nature now also. Should I stop the drug? CINDY AskDocWeb: It sounds like you should visit your doctor about this. Ask him about an alternative. Subj: Meridia insomnia Date: 7/17/2006 I have been taking 10mg of meridia for 6 days. I have not lost any weight. I am 30 lbs. overweight so I'm hoping that someone can respond to my e-mail as I also have insomnia, feel slightly ill. ( flu like symptoms. I'm not sure if I should stop taking Meridia or should I continue in hopes that I will lose some weight. Thank you, Shirleyann AskDocWeb: If you are not drinking enough water that could be a problem. Meridia is known to cause insomnia in some people. With flu like symptoms you should probably visit your doctor to be on the safe side. Subj: Lost 16 pounds Date: 7/19/2006 Great Experience - I used Meridia for 6 weeks (10mg ) and lost 16 pounds. I also did exercise (3xweek)/modified my eating patterns (cut out alcohol and limited deserts/meats). Only side effects were dry mouth and light sleeping at night (don't take it at night, take it in the morning). I would recommend to anyone its works great. Cindy Subj: Heartbeat irregularities Date: 7/19/2006 Been taking 10 mg meridia for 3 1/2 weeks. I've lost 8 lbs which is great, since I need to lose about 45. Problem is I've noticed that my heart beats quite hard and fast at times, especially when I'm trying to fall asleep at night. I haven't been sleeping well, which has made me very tired during the day. Do these symptoms subside over time? Are they dangerous? I really don't want to stop taking it since I am finally losing weight after trying everything. Shari AskDocWeb: These symptoms probably won't go away. It sounds like you should consult with your doctor about a better alternative. Subj: Meridia side effects last for months Date: 7/21/2006 I've been taking Meridia for 5 months and have lost 28lbs. It's great but it's not to be taken on a whim. It does have side effects that you'll have to live with for months. I found some of the side effects lessened by daily exercise. If I blow off my walk for a few days I get that jittery over-caffeinated feeling. It's not a weight loss cure all but it's helping me gain control. Before going on it I was eating until I was physically uncomfortable everyday. Meridia reminded me what it's like to have my brain tell me I'm full instead of my discomfort. It's a very cool feeling. Anne Subj: Fentanyl with Paxil? Date: 8/9/2006 My elderly mother has been on the fentanyl patch for several months now and her doctor just prescribed for her to start taking Paxil. Is it safe to take both together? Molly AskDocWeb: Typically Paxil can safely be used with the Fentanyl patch. Subj: Left arm feeling numb Date: 8/10/2006 Feeling very nervous now, have taken 15mg for 3 days now. At first, thought it was great, no appetite, now my left arm feeling numb and tingling. I am otherwise healthy 30 year old with no health problems. Have stopped taking it 24 hours, symptoms still persist Catherine AskDocWeb: Discontinuing the use of Meridia was wise. Make an appointment with your doctor because your symptom may indicate a heart attack. Subj: Meridia had to go Date: 8/14/2006 I have taken 15mgs for two days, today is the third day and I have discontinued the medicine. I have a headache and cannot sleep at night. I am usually a sound sleeper and have a very limited headache history. All of the information on the adverse effects of this medicine has led me to cease taking it. After I took it both days, my appetite was very limited, and my house was spotless. I can't deal with the headaches, though. This med has got to go. Sad to see my 100 bucks go down the drain though. He Subj: Sleeping problem Date: 8/15/2006 I have been on Meridia for about 5 days, I haven't really noticed a change in appetite or weight loss of any kind. I have noticed that I have to go to the bathroom more frequently and I don't sleep as well. Will these side effects get better and when should I see a weight change? Jenny AskDocWeb: You should see a weight change within a couple of weeks. If you take the medication 12 hours before you go to bed sleeping will be much easier. Read more feedback about Meridia.
