Minoxidil FeedbackIf you use Minoxidil, please help others by adding your feedback. What would you tell someone considering using this product? Please remember that we do not give medical advice. That is for your local health care provider, who is familiar with your medical history.Subj: Did not work Date: 9/14/2008 I have been use 5% minoxidil for 6 month. But it is did not work on me. Huiling Subj: Lost erection Date: 9/14/2008 I have lost on an erection and think is due to the regaine, so I decided to stop it. Given Subj: When you stop minoxidil Date: 9/14/2008 You lose MORE hair when you stop minoxidil, you fall below baseline, but it bounces back to baseline in 6 months. Please pass that onto your readers because it's been tested and proven true. Dr. Rahman AskDocWeb: Agreed. As we understand this, the rate at which hair is lost increases until the patient looses all the hair that they would have lost if they had not taken the product. After that rate of hair loss returns to what it was before taking the product. This seems to be true for Propecia as well. Subj: Irregular menstruation Date: 9/16/2008 Hello, I am using minoxidil 2% from last 5 months. And I am having irregular menstruation for all 5 months. I am married from only 1 yr so this irregularity of menstruation is causing much of tension for my husband and me. I have consulted gynac for this, there is no other problem with me. But we haven't told her about mintop as it was not in mind at all that it can be a cause. So wanted to ask you is that possible that mintop is causing this irregularity in menstruation?? Plz help. Thanks & Regards, Ana AskDocWeb: Irregular menstruation is not listed as a side effect of minoxidil. Subj: Growing on my face Date: 9/21/2008 I have been using Minoxidil orally for about four months and have notced hair growing on my face; I would like to know if I will lose hair grown on face if I quit Minoxidil. Ruby AskDocWeb: The Minoxidil discussed here is the topical solution applied to the outside surface of the body, not the pills or tablets taken internally. When the use of Minoxidil solution is discontinued the hair that was caused to grow by the Minoxidil will gradually fall out over the following few months. Subj: Unwanted hair Date: 9/21/2008 Hi, I am 27 (Male) and have been using Rogaine foam since 4 months. I have started noticing unwanted hair under the eyes (upper part of the cheeks). I want to know if stopping the medication would cause the unwanted hair to go away? Ram AskDocWeb: This sounds familiar. Yes, it will go away. Subj: Hair transplant Date: 9/22/2008 Please can you tell me if stopping minoxidil for 5 weeks for a hair transplant will cause some hairloss of the hair I have been maintaining? Thank you. Ciaran AskDocWeb: If you start again at 5 weeks following the hair transplant you shouldn't have much hair loss. At that point your hair loss would just be beginning again. Good luck with your transplant. Subj: Problem with body hair Date: 9/22/2008 I used minoxidil for approximately 4 weeks and stopped treatment after experiencing increased hair loss. I do realize that initial shedding is possible, but it seemed to be quite a lot and very rapid. I have been off of the medication for 4 weeks now and continue to lose more and more hair, including hair on my eyebrows and other places. All of my body hair (including on my scalp) has become, long, thin and brittle. Is this something that is normal, which I can expect to eventually reverse after time? I visited one doctor who said all shedding from minoxidil should have ended already. I am getting very concerned--my hair is extremely thin and continues to fall out. I have been on Propecia for several years and had been consistently maintaining my hair during that time. Also, regarding the body hair loss, I have been tested for thyroid problems, and everything is normal. Mike AskDocWeb: No, that does not sound normal. It may be time to consult with a dermatologist. Subj: Itchy dry scalp Date: 9/25/2008 I have been using Regaine for a month and I have noticed a difference, but my head has been very itchy and my scalp very dry. I stopped for a day and during the night my head got very very itchy, driving my crazy so I applied some. The itchyness has eased some and I feel very dry. It's scary. I want to stop but should I stop cold turkey? What can I do to ease these reactions while I stop taking it. Terry AskDocWeb: Since this product is not addictive, there is no problem with stopping cold turkey. It might obvious but have you tried a moisturizer? Subj: Not happy Date: 10/6/2008 I got my advice from advanced hair studio. I'm 28 my hair line started to receed over the past few years and is now thinning with no family history of this... I have recived off them a probable laser hair combe and 3 bottles of minoxidil, which having read this I see is out of date!! Not happy. I have also started to recive very bad pain in my synesses back of skull, ears & tempel...painfull to even touch that's with 1ml of 5% twice a day..not happy. I'm glad I checked this out and after just 2days of this pain I would rather lose my hair as a life of this would be too much for me. Is there anything I can do? Julian AskDocWeb: Because you have no family history of hair loss we suggest you get a medical examination to rule out possible health problems such as thyroid. Subj: No side effects Date: 10/9/2008 Hi, this is Shoun here. I'm using minoxidil since from three weak for only one time at night...5 drops...till no side effect shown in me...its feeling confident after visiting your site...I'll update my feedback you after regular intervals. Thnx, Shoun Subj: Expired Minoxidil? Date: 10/9/2008 Hi, I have started to use Minoxidil which has past it's best before date on the bottle. Does that make the Minoxidil more or less potent? Any additional side affect using Minoxidil which is 4 years old? James AskDocWeb: The side effects of using medication after the product has expired are not published, probably because the use of expired medication is not recommended. It is unlikely that the Minoxidil will become any more potent. It is much more likely to start loosing effectiveness once it passes that expiration date. Subj: 2% or 5%? minoxidil Date: 10/13/2008 Hi... I am a 22 yr old male and I have been using minoxidil 2% in a solution form. Recently I visited a dermatologist who suggested that I should take minoxidil 5% in its new foam-base form. He also told me only 5% concentration works on men.. But as it is, I can see a reduction in my hairfall with the 2% solution (at the maximum 25 hair strands fall each day. Not more). There was a slight surge in hairfall recently, but that could be explained by isotretinoin intake... Should I take the dermatologist's advice and switch to 5% minoxidil to see a further improvment in hair retention. Will I be able to bring down my hair loss any less than the number mentioned above? Btw, hairloss is hereditary in my family. Vignesh AskDocWeb: That is something that you might want to experiment with doing. Just be aware of the increased chance of side effects from the stronger solution and watch out for scalp irritation. Subj: Sexual side effects Date: 10/15/2008 I was been in 2% minoxidil for 2 months with sexual sideeffects started right within a month. Now, its been 6 months I stopped using minoxidil...but still I didn't recover...I need to know how long it will take to recover completely? Suvi AskDocWeb: Since this has been going on for 6 months, it sounds like it is time to talk to a urologist and get this checked out. It is also possible that there could be an unrelated problem that might require treatment. Subj: How long? Date: 10/15/2008 Hi I started using mintop forte recently...I heard that it is a short term drug...can you tell me how many years or months I can continue using this drug. Thanks, Joe AskDocWeb: There is no time limit on how long you can use it but the effectiveness has not been proven to last beyond 48 weeks. Subj: Erectile dysfunction? Date: 10/16/2008 Sir does minoxidil cause male erectile disfuction? Please let me know as I think in my case it has. I been taking it for many years with great lasting results. But it has slowed my libido. Thank you. David AskDocWeb: According to the Mayo Clinic erectile dysfunction is a symptom of an overdose. If you are using too much then it could have an effect on your libido. Subj: Falling hair has not arrested yet Date: 10/16/2008 This page was very helpful, I was unsure of many thing about this product and you help me learn everything I needed to know, & my question is I am using mintop for past 3 months with curlzfin(recommended by dermatologist). Some hair growth have observed but falling of hair has not arrested yet. So what I do? Another thing is after using mintop for 6 months if I stop the use, then hairloss will continue? Sudhir AskDocWeb: Yes, the hair loss will start again when you discontinue the product. Keep in mind that some hair loss is normal and you can't stop all of it. The best you can hope for is to reduce the number of hairs you lose each day. Do you use a shampoo that helps prevent hair loss? If not, take a look at Nisim Biofactors. Subj: Sudden hair loss Date: 10/16/2008 Hi, I am 29 years old and about 2 months ago experienced sudden hair loss. My previously very hick hair has became a little thinner (particularly noticeable on my left temple) I am on vitamin B suppements as well as iron supplements. I wash my hair every other day and lose about 100-150 hairs each time I ay for 3 shower. There is no one bald in my family. My dermatologist recommended I use minoxidil 5% once a day for 3 months to strengthen my hair and then switch to aminexil for another 3 months. Does that sound like a logical treatment to you? Can minoxidil be used to strengthen hair in sudden hair loss? Nadine AskDocWeb: Yes, that sounds logical, sudden hair loss sometimes corrects itself even without treatment. Aminexil is basically a minoxidil compound coupled with retinol (a vitamin-A derived substance). It is supposed to produce better results than just using Minoxidil alone.
