Could Nexium cause sinus problems?
My husband has been taking Nexium for acid reflux. He has Barrett's Esophagus, so it is very important that the reflux stays under control. Nexium has been working well. However he has been having terrible problems with sinus drainage for the last year-plus. Could the sinus problems be caused by the Nexium? Is there an alternative? Prilosec did not work for the reflux.
AskDocWeb: Sinus irritation and sinus congestion are listed as infrequent side effects of Nexium oral so that is one possible cause. Of course there are other possible causes. There are a few alternatives so it may be worthwhile to discuss this with your doctor.
Pain behind the eyes
My husband has been taking nexium 20mg for two days now and he is experiencing pain behind his eye. Is it common as a side effect? If so could he use anything for the pain?
AskDocWeb: Pain behind the eye is not listed among the clinically recognized side effects of Nexium. However, there are three related side effects so check with your doctor. A small percentage of patients experience yellow eyes, large, hive-like swelling on the eyelids, or puffiness or swelling of the eyelids.
My belly looks pregnant
I took Nexium for mornings and my stomach blew up like a balloon! I stopped taking it but my belly continues to make me look 8 months pregnant! I must wear things that are like maternity clothes.
AskDocWeb: Excess air or gas in the stomach is listed as one of the possible side effects of Nexium that should be reported to your doctor immediately. Acid reflux and stomach bloating can sometimes occur together but they are separate conditions.
DOES VITAMIN D LIMIT YOUR SUGAR LEVEL?
AskDocWeb: It's a little more complicated than your question implies. Vitamin D plays an important role in metabolizing glucose by acting on insulin producing cells in the pancreas and in muscle and fat cells by reducing insulin resistance. If suffering from high blood sugar, it is important to determining your current blood sugar and vitamin D levels because excess vitamin D can be toxic. See your doctor to test both levels before deciding whether or not to supplement with vitamin D.
I was prescribed Nexium for gas and bloating. After 12 days of Nexium, I had to be hospitalized for Acute Diverticulitis. Stay away from the PPIs.
Diarrhea and dehydration
I ONLY TOOK NEXIUM FOR A WEEK. HAD TO STOP BECAUSE IT GAVE ME WATERY DIARRHEA. WENT TO ER BECAUSE OF DEHYDRATION. THIS MEDICINE SHOULD BE BANNED!!!!!!!!
I take slippery elm
Hi I've had very bad flare ups with my acid reflux and I take nexium in the morning try to eat small meals and take iced water for flare ups and also in the day because it seems to cool down the inflammation similar to a burn on your skin. At night I take slippery elm to coat the asophagus and help heal. I find that the nexium is working at healing but I am worried about taking it too long but I have to take it until im healed. Maybe this won't work for everyone but it does for me.

Bitterness in mouth
First day taken nexuum hp7, felt bitterness in my mouth. Is that normal?
AskDocWeb: Bitterness in the mouth is often caused by the condition being treated however, it is also the number one reported side effect of Nexium hp7.
Nexium losing effectiveness
I tried Dexilant for about 3 months and ended up with severe gastric disturbances (diarrhea, gas). The doctor switched me to Nexium which worked also for about 3 months until I started having headaches everyday for the last 10 days and the effectiveness of the Nexium has diminished so much that I am having to eat about a dozen Tums a day to help. Do you know of any reports of the Nexium losing effectiveness like this. I made an appt. to see my G.I Dr. this week. Can't go on battling this anymore!
AskDocWeb: It may come as a surprise to you but Nexium is approved for short-term use (4 to 8 weeks). According to the manufacturer, for some patients who have not healed after 4 weeks, another 4-8 weeks may be prescribed. That does not make it a long-term solution.
Are headaches a side effect of discontinuing Nexium?
hi. i have been taking 40mg of nexium daily for about 6 months about 1 month ago i stopped taking it and started getting headaches. i have had a headache everday for over a month now some times they last the whole day i have had ct scans blood test they have all come up normal just wondering if the headaches could be linked to me not taking the nexium anymore?
AskDocWeb: Stopping Nexium suddenly can cause unpleasant rebound heartburn but we have no indication that it might cause withdrawal headaches.
Withdrawal from Nexium
I had been on nexium for about three years. I started experiencing panic attacks, dizzyness, heart palpations and foggy feeling. I stopped this drug cold turkey because I was scared. Big mistake! I ended up in the er with a severe migraine and nausea. I have been off this drug for 8 days and it's the worst I have felt in my life and it's not just the heartburn coming back. I have flue stamp toms weakness and a dippy feeling. I have been back to my doctor and tons of tests were taking on paper nothing is wrong but I know they are withdraw affects from this drug!
