AskDocWeb: We haven't seen anything to indicate that Nioxin might cause something like that. If they do find the cause please let us know. Good luck!
Heartburn and heart flutters
i have been using nioxin for eight weeks and have had bad heartburn and heart flutters, i am allergic to sulfa. I am not sure if it is in nioxin or not my shampoo and conditioner dont list ingredients. I feel there is a connection and was so supprised when someone else listed having heartburn too. do you think there could be a connection, i have psoriasis and am on humira not sure which one could be causing me problems.
AskDocWeb: When a manufacturer does not list the ingredients in their product that makes it impossible to determine the health risks. You might try contacting the manufacturer.
Profollica is NOT for women
After reading your information on nioxin and your recommendation to use Profollica, I went to their site, and found it was FOR MEN... is there any contra-indicators for women using this product also? I have found that many women also have quite a bit of hair loss, but typically, it is considered a primarilyale condition. NOT SO! Please take into consideration BOTH sexes when recommending a product! That being said, is there a product you can recommend for women with hair loss?
AskDocWeb: Thanks Carla, message received. Currently the best option for women seems to be the topically applied minoxidil. However, we are reluctant to recommend a product that has to be applied twice a day and allowed to dry each time it's applied.
Nioxin: I also developed stomach ulcers. The heartburn and chest was horrible...great product for thinning hair, but can't risk developing bleeding ulcers for a nice head of hair.
Nioxin side effects?
I recently used Nioxin shampoo and conditioner (but not the scalp treatment). Shortly after I began using it I began to have migraine headaches and erectile problems, both for the first time in my life. I stopped using the products about a week ago. The daily headaches persist, but the erectile issues seem to be relenting. I've also noticed that my shoulders are tense all of the time. Any idea if the product is causing these things, and if so, will the problems cease now that I've stopped using it?
AskDocWeb: Sorry Joseph, we don't know if Nioxin would or could cause such side effects. You might try contacting their customer service department to see what they say.
Itchiness, burning and pain
My hair guy recommended Nioxin 4 so I gave it a whirl. I've used it 3 times. The first time I used it I remembered to rinse my hair in cool water, in such a way that the runoff did not come in contact with my body. The second two times, I forgot and just shampooed in my usual manner - standing in a hot shower. Afterward, my whole body became very itchy and irritated but no rash. It's been 3 days since I last used it and the itchiness/burning/pain is subsiding - thanks to Benadryl. Don't know if I'm allergic to an ingredient, but I won't use it again.
I used nioxin treatment and all my hair fell out with burning scalp and pain.
I have tried this product on several different occasions, and each time at the start of use like the 2nd day I had a very bad headache. At first I took Tylenol and the headache did go away. I continued using the product for several weeks and the headache did not return. So maybe as your scalp agjust to the product u may experience headaches which usually go away.
On permed hair
after using nioxen foam on my permed hair after it dried I could not get get a comb through it
Nioxin side effects
Hi , I started taking Nioxin for 3 weeks. I started having reactions - flakiness, itchiness. what can I use to stop these side effects ?
AskDocWeb: Sorry Emma, this forum is only for reporting side effects and effectiveness. For medical advice please consult with your local doctor.
I have pictures. I've used this before, a few months ago I used it for a few weeks and lost it. I recently got another bottle. The scalp treatment caused red splotches and drips on my chest, back, neck. To make sure what the cause was, I sprayed the other side of my neck. It was definitely the cause. Did they change what they are putting in this???
AskDocWeb: That is a question for their customer service department.
I am 56 years old with no history in my family of breast cancer or almost any cancer at all. I used Nioxin products off & on probably for 10 years though not in the last 2-3 years. This week I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am healthy, eat right, exercise. I would be very interested to know if there are any other clinical cases like mine of folks who have used Nioxin & then have cancer. Thank you.
