Beware of Monat
Hi! I recently learned about a product called Monat, it has only been on the market for less than one year and is naturally based and third party clinically proven to regrow hair. I have been using it for about 3 weeks and have new growth all over my head. It is absolutely safe to use and does not cause any of the above side effects. I have a tumor in my brain and refuse to use any products that could cause cancer on my scalp! You may contact me if you have any questions or are curious about the product. I have had my thyroid removed and lose my hair for many months when my synthroid levels are adjusted so I have been using Nioxin. I am not sure it helps at all what I do know is in the exact spot that I put their shampoo on my hair I got skin cancer. A whole square inch of my scalp had to be removed. I have a dent in my head now. I realized now that it may have been the cause. Also I suspect my thyroid cancer was likely from so many dental x-rays. Now the dentists cover your thyroid as well as your abdomen. For 5 decades they did not cover the neck area.
Is it safe?
Hi. I just started using Nioxin. My 18 month old granddaughter lives with me. When she is tired or upset she holds onto my hair. Is it safe for her to touch my hair (wet or dry) if I'm using this product? Thank you.
AskDocWeb: Sorry Lori, although the risk seems to be low, we don't have enough data to give you a conclusive answer to that question.
Warts or scabs
have been using nioxin for over 2 yrs.in the last couple of months I have like warts or scabs on my head; never noticed it before. I also am very tired and often have low grade headaches
I have been using the Nioxin minoxydil for about 8-9 months now, and in the last couple months my scalp became extremely irritated when putting on the treatment. I now have a very dry, itchy scalp with dry clumps on my scalp! I am so disappointed because this was costly, and I have not experienced significant hair growth from this. Now, I am learning about the ingredients in this product and think I will just discontinue this altogether. There are other more natural hair growth products out there. I blame myself for not doing my research.
Used Nioxin for several years with great results. I decided to try a different product and my hair fell out in clumps. It is now thin and dry. Please advise.

Very scary stuff!
I started using Nioxin products including the scalp treatment in Nov 2015. Five weeks later I started having intense and frequent heart palpitations. Then one night I went into severe anaphylactic shock, something I had never experienced before. My heart palpitations got worse. I discontinued use of Nioxin products and all problems immediately stopped. Very scary stuff!
Hello, I currently use the system #3. I've had no issues. I used the same system twice in past also with no problems only good results. I have long blond colored hair and the product has kept my hair on my head and healthy, plus less fall out.and new regrowth. I've tried nutri-ox and all other and they caused major hair loss due to scalp irritation, swollen and red scalp. Nioxin is the best, so were vitamins. Try it
Hi, I came across your website tonight while looking for the ingredient list in Nioxin Scalp Therapy 3. I'm hoping you can help me. I have always had eczema on my hands where they get dry, crack and bleed, worse in the winter and sensitive, itchy skin.
About a year ago my scalp started flaking. In and behind my ears flakes periodically also. At this same time below my breasts became red, itchy and looked inflamed. Up until a year ago, I never had any of these mentioned issues. My hair is thick and healthy and I never had flakey scalp.
Here is what I have tried. While there is small improvement while using products, the problems are still greatly here. I appreciate any suggestions you may have.
July 31, 2015 Dr. recommended - Try coconut oil applied to the whole scalp overnight and then washed out in the AM.
Lamisil cream under my breast (Athlete's foot cream)
Ears cracking and flaky: Hydrocortisone 2% cream to ears including into ear on Q-tip. (Pharmacist said 2% only available with a prescription.) I used 1%.
T-Gel shampoo every other time (no tea tree)
Continued these treatments from July 31 - September 16 with no effect.
Flaky scalp, in and behind ears, red under breasts. Victoria, September 16, 2015
Spoke with Melissa November 9, 2015 - On my head is scalp seborrheic dermatitis. At 60 years old 1 in 4 just have it. If you have any eczema, then there is a 1 in 2 chance of just getting it. It is very common. I will use a steroid, Lidex daily for 10 days parting my hair and applying a small amount, rubbing it into the areas of my scalp that have it and then applying a very small amount of olive oil also.
Lidex heals, olive oil loosens. The next morning wash with a salicylatic shampoo like T-Gel or Denorex to carry away the flaking. After towel drying part the hair where the flaking is and apply a small amount of Lidex to the scalp. After 10 days of this process do it 2x week only. If it clears up, I can stop and restart as needed. Cannot cure. Can treat. I can use the Lidex in my ears if I see a problem. Can't use Lidex for more than 3 weeks ongoing at a time. Need to keep out of eyes because can cause glaucoma. Lidex is $94.00 generic/60 mL at Costco with cash discount.
Victoria (No last names please) thinks redness under breasts is sweating even though I've never had it before. Buy Zeasorb powder/2.5 oz. or use Desenex brand as is cheaper but same thing and apply sparingly.
November 8, 2015 - Almost used 2 bottles Lidex (Fluocinonide 0.05% solution). Applied Lidex/olive oil for 10 days then went to Monday/Thursday applications. Flaking scalp back. Applied Lidex/olive oil for 10 days again then went to Monday/Thursday applications. Flaking scalp back.
November 11, 2015 - Nurse Heather spoke with Vicki. If not better in a week, call.
Use Cortaid Ointment (Hydrocortisone) 2x/day for 10 days straight, then no more than 3x/week.
Alternate Denorex with another shampoo that is fragrance, etc. free. Continue Lidex regimen.
January 19, 2016 - Continuing above regimen. Almost at the end of a third bottle of Lidex. Flaking moves from place to place on head and ears, leaving and reoccurring. Redness under breasts never leaves; either gets a little better or worsens with cracking and ready to bleed.
January 19, 2016 - Dr. gave Cormax 0.05% steroid topical solution script for head, apply for 10 days with oil then Mondays and Thursdays. Trying Castor oil instead of Olive oil on head. Stronger than other steroid. Nystatin 100,000 unit/gram topical powder script for under breasts. Says it's a yeast infection.
April 13, 2016 - Used three bottles Cormax 0.05% steroid topical solution on head along with olive oil over night and T-Gel in the AM. Also Nystatin under breast. Dry, flaking scalp continues; ears periodically. Under breasts fluctuates. Scalp the same.
April 15, 2016 - Clerk recommended trying sulfate, gluten and paraben free Loma Daily Shampoo and Daily Conditioner giving a small sample of each. Used for 3 shampoo/conditioner treatments.
April 16, 2016 - Hairdresser recommended trying Nioxin Scalp Therapy 3 (like a conditioner). Researched product and found users recommended product made in USA and not Mexico. Most available is made in Mexico. Using every other day. Still flaking and itching.
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you need to be working with a professional dermatologist for treatment. That would probably give you much better results than you would get from a hairdresser.
