Subj: No troubles at all
I have been on ortho tri-cyclen for almost 6 years now. I have had troubles at all. May be breast tenderness twice in 6 years, I think that is pretty good.
Subj: Tying tubes?
I am going to have my tubes tide, and that means I don't have to get off birth control, I was on ortho tri-cyclen. Will I gain weight? What are the side affects? Please put my mind to rest and let me know what I am in for. Thank you,
AskDocWeb: You don't need to take birth control after that procedure is done. It's like a man having a vasectomy.
Subj: Light colored spotting
I was on ortho tri cyclen for a few years and went off the pill for about 8 months when I left my husband. I started on ortho tri cyclen lo this month, I am just getting ready to start my reminder pills tomorrow and today I started to spot. It's a very light colored pinkish brown discharge. It kinda looks like what you would expect on your last day of your cycle. I also have been experiencing horrible heartburn and stomach aches and nausea, but after a little while it goes away and then comes back. This has been going on every day now for about 2 weeks. This is my first month on ortho tri cyclen lo. I don't know what to expect, but I don't like it. When I was on ortho tri cyclen I had no side affects, but figured since I was getting older that I could go to the "lo"...
AskDocWeb: These symptoms sound pretty typical for this drug. They should subside within the first three months. If your nausea and stomachaches don't go away, report them to your doctor. They should not continue after the first three months.
Subj: Mood swings are out of control
I was on the regular Ortho for years before switching to Lo. I have been on Lo now for two years or so. I have a question though, I have been experiencing worse mood swings and yeast infections (I never got them on the regular pill) could you recommend anything? My mood swings are out of control, it is unbearable to the point of tears. Also the yeast infections are horrendous I never had them before! I need help! Also is it still possible to get nauseous, I usually take the pill around the same (within a few hours sometimes) and never forget a day but now I think I could be pregnant due to being nauseous. I am just scared because that with the combo of the mood swings are making it worse!
AskDocWeb: Make an appointment with your doctor now, you shouldn't have had to go through this for so long. Listen to what your body is telling you. It sounds like your body doesn't like Ortho-Lo.
Subj: Minoxidil with Ortho tri-cyclen?
I am taking ortho tri-cyclen and I was wondering is it okay to take minoxidil as well at the same time that I am taking the birth control. Is there any side effects that can be extremely harmful to me. I have a very long history of high blood pressure in my family and my doctor mentioned it. If any one knows if there are sever side effects when taking both at the same time, please let me know. Thank you,
Subj: Petite young woman
I am almost finished my second cycle of t.c.lo I am 16 years old, almost 17. I am peitie for my ago, 4'8 will this have any affect on my pills? And also, I feel nauseous on Saturdays usually near the beginning or end of my pills, it really drives me crazy because it stays with me for so long, and always stars at the same time. I have only experienced these side effects once. How can I treat them? and am I permitted to take regular antibiotics if necessary? my parents are unaware of my b.c but, I still worry. Also, my family is low-income and I do not work. My doctor gave me a three month supply of t.c.lo, do I go ahead and ask him for another set? As well, I would like to know, what will happen if I stop them? I know I have asked quite much, but please answers to all my questions would be extremely appreciated. Thank you,
AskDocWeb: Being a petite woman will not have any affect with your birth control pill. When you are on certain antibiotics it is recommended to use another form of birth control to avoid pregnancy because the pill loses its effectiveness. Discuss the nausea with your doctor and he may give you another 3 month free sample supply if he carries it.
I just switched from Diane 35 to tri-cyclen lo. I was having horrible mood swings on Diane but it was clearing my acne so my doctor put me on tri-cyclen lo. I am not experiencing any bad side effects although my skin is breaking out more now on Lo then when I wasn't on any pill at all. I have no mood swings or weight gain though but I am worried it will make my skin worse. What do I do?
AskDocWeb: Other women have complained that Ortho-Lo didn't help with their acne. It sounds like you will have to use good facial cleansers to avoid it.
Subj: Not recommended
I took Ortho Tri-cyclen several years ago and seemed to be alright I thought that the self esteem issues and anxiety attacks were relatively normal coming of age stuff...now I'm 30 and started taking ortho tri-cyclen again and it's all happening all over again. 3 months ago I was self assured and ready to tackle anything and now I not even sure if I could drive to the bank if I wanted to. I stopped taking it when the anxiety attacks started over again. I would never recommend this product and would tell people if they continue to take it to watch themselves very closely for major changes.
Subj: Vaginal dryness and low sex drive
I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for over a year, but went off of it about 3 months ago because my blood pressure was elevated and I had a sharp pain in my leg. While using OTC Lo, I started experiencing pain during intercourse, which I attributed to vaginal dryness. Has anyone else experienced vaginal dryness and a low sex drive on OTC Lo? I'm hoping that by going off of it, I'll get my sex drive back.
AskDocWeb: Yes, other women have complained about decreased libido and vaginal dryness. It would be helpful to hear what alternative you chose as well as your experience going off Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo.
Subj: Chances of becoming pregnant on Ortho-lo
I had a question and I don't know where else to post. I'm considering becoming sexually active. I've been on Ortho-lo for two years. I'm wondering what the liklihood of my becoming pregnant is. I can't find any stats on their site that don't come from research done in their own clinic (which might have a bias).
AskDocWeb: Less than 1% of women become pregnant while on ortho Lo.
Subj: Ran out of pills
On ortho-try-cyclen, but ran out and was not on it for two weeks. Had sex during these two weeks and then went back on ortho-try-cyclen. Now I am at the green pills, and worried I may be pregnant from those two weeks I was on nothing. It's not a concern if I AM pregnant, just wondering what will happen if you are pregnant and take the whole pack of pills because you didn't know. Thanks,
AskDocWeb: You should have a pregnancy test done now. You can use one of the home tests to see if you are pregnant. A lot of women have done the same thing. You will be okay but starting a new pack would be a bad idea until you are sure you are not pregnant.
I just switched to ortho lo and I've been experiencing spotting in between periods...I know that this is supposedly normal within the first three months according to all the other questions. But I'm wondering how long is abnormal for spotting? Is longer than 3 days bad?
AskDocWeb: No, it isn't bad to spot longer than 3 days, but if in the third month you're still spotting, tell your doctor.
Subj: Skipped sugar pills
My wife has been taking ortho tri-cyclen lo for about 6 months. Last month she had breakthrough bleeding on her third week of pills, as a result she didn't take the last set of pills and started a new pack. Now she just finished her full set of pills and no period. Is this possible? She is continuing on her pills. Just curious.
AskDocWeb: Yes, this is possible because she didn't take the sugar pills to allow her period a chance to start.
Subj: Serious emotional problems
I read an earlier post saying that they are discontinuing the regular dosage of Ortho-tri cyclen. I am currently on the Lo dosage and have been on it for close to two years. like other posts I have read here I have experienced serious emotional problems. I figured that was just something that I had to put with if I wanted to use BC. I really, really want to switch to the regular dosage of ortho which I have read is better than the Lo dosage and I just want to make sure it is still available (I live in Atlanta, GA if that makes any difference!) thanks so much!!
AskDocWeb: The regular Ortho Tri-cyclen is still available but... Your insurance company is not likely to pay for the regular ones as long as there is a generic pill on the market.
Subj: Very emotional
I have been on Ortho-lo for about 4 months but have become very emotional... is normal ortho better for your skin? But will it make me gain more weight? Or just my boobs?
AskDocWeb: Judging by the feedback here Ortho Tri-cyclen is better than Ortho-lo for those who have acne problems. The weight gain is about the same as with other birth control pills.
Subj: Tested positive for THC
I have taken Cipro and Zithromax, right before a piss test and I came up positive for THC, could this be the reason? I am not into drugs and they says it was marijuana. I am a soldier I don't nor cannot use any controlled substance I have asked around, no one seems to know, can you help me?
AskDocWeb: They may have used EMIT test process which can produce many false positives. You might insist on getting a GC/MS confirmation test to prove your innocence. This test is much more expensive but is also virtually error free.
Subj: Bald spots
I am 38 years of age and I have been on the ortho tri-cyclen lo tablets since 11/05. I have now experienced a couple of weeks ago bald spots in two areas the size of a quarter. Is this due to the intake of this pill?
AskDocWeb: Not to this extent, you're not talking about just the thinning of your hair, but actual bald spots. We suggest you talk to a dermatologist.
