should phentermine be stopped prior to caterac surgery?

AskDocWeb: According to a statement from the American Society of Anesthesiologists, there are reports that some patients who were taking phentermine have become hypotensive (with abnormally low blood pressure) while under general anesthesia. Left unattended, this hypotension may become dangerous and life threatening.

"The "Basic Standards for Preanesthesia Cart" approved by the ASA House of Delegates in 1987 states that an anesthesiologist must develop an appropriate plan of anesthesia care that is based in part on a patient's medical history and drug therapy, including medications. For this reason, it is imperative that patients be forthcoming when they talk to their anesthesiologist about any drugs they have taken prior to surgery. This includes all prescription and over-the-counter medications such as diet pins, vitamins, and herbal preparations."

Okay so I've been taking these diet pills for a month now and I'm excited about how much I've been losing but since I didn't get them prescribed I just bought them. I am very mad that I seem to need to quit using them I am uncontrollably itchyi can't stop scratching my head and my Arms I'm itchy all the time. Is there any way I can keep going with these pills maybe cut the pill in half or do I absolutely have to quit

AskDocWeb: Sorry Diana, we do not support the illegal use of drugs. Since it appears that you bought them without a prescription we suggest you consult with your local healthcare provider.

Date: 2/20/2015
I took phentermine for 2 months i was losing my weight but then i started seeing another doc and he did not want to give it to me.after a few weeks off of it i started having sweeling in my feet and ankles and im 32 years old and after a month i doubled the wieght that i lost.the docs have checked my kedneys and a whole blood panel and checked my legs for blood clots.they didnt find nothing the only thing i can get them to check is my heart.and its been almost a year and im still swelling can the swelling be because of the phentermine i have never sweel before that.

AskDocWeb: To our knowledge, Phentermine has not been associated with swelling that starts a few weeks after discontinuing. Have you told your doctor that the swelling is a concern and that you want to know what is causing it? Another option is to Adask an online Doctor.
