Subj: Diabetics and blood pressure
Date: 3/30/2008
How does phentermine affects people who are diabetic, or have high blood pressure? Thank you,
Neveen

AskDocWeb: Phentermine will not affect your blood sugars. Some people with hypertension may not be able to take Phentermine because it elevates blood pressure. Weight loss is well worth pursuing because it improves diabetes control and decreases blood pressure but you have to work closely with your doctor.

Subj: Joints and bones ace
Date: 4/4/2008
I have been taking phentermine on and off for bout 8 years I do have progressive RA I notice that my joints and bones ace so I stopped taking it to see if it made my joints hurt worse and after 3 days started taking it again and sure enough my joints started hurting.. Is there anyone else that is experiencing this? And what can I do?
Debbie

AskDocWeb: You can consult with your physician to see if there's another product that will not cause this discomfort.

Subj: Using methamazole and metoporal with phentermine
Date: 4/7/2008
I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid three months ago and subsequently put on methamazole and metoporal. (Metoporal was given because a racing heart was the main symptom that gave away the hyperthyroid.) Now that my metabolism is slower, I have gained weight and my doc prescribed phentermine. He says it is fine but says very little else about it. Will it be safe to combine these meds?
Melissa

AskDocWeb: While checking for drug interactions we had to make a couple of assumptions; 1. That methamazole was a misspelling of methimazole and 2. That metoporal was a misspelling of Metoprolol. Neither of those drugs have an interaction with phentermine. On the other hand, using Metoprolol Tartrate with Methimazole (or other beta-adrenergic blockers such as atenolol or carvedilol) may cause an increased risk of certain side effects, although using both drugs together may be the best treatment for you. The side effects to watch for are headaches, faster than usual heartbeat, feeling tired, dizzy or lightheaded, short of breath, or have a crushing pain, tightness, or heaviness in your chest. Report any of these side effects to your doctor as soon as possible but do not stop using your medication without talking to your doctor first.

Subj: Terrible pain
Date: 4/8/2008
I lost 12 pounds at first month. The next month because I had terrible pain in my abdomin that lasted until 3AM. It did not say if I should take it first thing in the AM because I have to take synthroid.50 as per my endroconologist. So I stopped taking it. I wonder what could have caused this.

Subj: Liver damage?
Date: 4/10/2008
Does phentermine cause liver damage?
Lazy

AskDocWeb: The only notes we have about liver problems while using Phentermine relate to elevated liver enzymes. Some patients have discontinued the drug because of that. The early signs of liver damage are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual fatigue, loss of appetite, yellow skin or eyes, itching, dark urine, or clay colored stools. If you have these symptoms, you should notify your doctor immediately.

Subj: I recommend it!
Date: 4/12/2008
I took phentermine last yr for about 2 months, worked great. Lost 20 lbs. w/ good diet and 4-5 day/wk at the gym. Curbed my apitite, could only eat about half my meals. Helped a lot at the gym- I worked out a lot harder b/c I had more energy. I did have a few side effects: dry mouth, loss of sleep the first week, elevated heart rate, had to pee a lot (probably from all the water I drank from the dry mouth)- but had great energy. I recommend it!

Subj: Phytoshape?
Date: 4/18/2008
Is phytoshape used for mothers feeding babies about 9 weeks???
Mona

AskDocWeb: No, there are enough bad side effects that it has been banned from market in several countries.

Subj: Dry mouth
Date: 4/21/2008
I love it. I have lost 12 lbs. in 3 wks. The only negative thing I can say is that my mouth gets soooo dry and it gives me a foul taste in my mouth still. When should it go away?
Jackie

AskDocWeb: It may or may not go away. It depends on if you drink enough extra water or not.

Subj: Sweating
Date: 4/22/2008
I've been taken Phentermine 37mg for about 3 days and I noticed I can't stop sweating, is this normal?
Niesha

AskDocWeb: Sweating is not one of the listed side effects but there have been a few reports of that from users.

Subj: You have to eat
Date: 4/23/2008
I started taking Phentermine last August. I lost 25 pounds in 5 months. It took a while, but the Dr. says that is better. It doesn't come off easily, and it shouldn't. You have to eat, because if you don't, when you stop the pills, you will be very hungry and you will gain all the weight back. I do not take them on a regular basis anymore. I take one when I am going to a BBQ or something, just so I don't stuff my face. Also, they are addicting. However, I came to notice something. The side effects that most people were feeling, including myself, were simply the fact that you need to eat. Good food.

Subj: Jitters and insomnia
Date: 4/24/2008
I have been on Phentermine for 8 weeks and have lost 24lbs. I gained quite a bit of weight with my first child... 60lbs to be exact! I have never been overweight in my life, and my doctor tells me that I am a perfect candidate for this medication. He said that it is not really effective for people who have been obese for years. I love it, but not so crazy about the jitters and insomnia I experience on some occasions.
Jessica

Subj: Drug testing?
Date: 5/1/2008
Does Phentermine appear on a drug test?
Theresa

AskDocWeb: Yes, Phentermine has been reported to cause a false positive for Amphetamines and Ecstasy on urine tests (Ref: 3, 4, 11)

Shortly after I started feeling VERY sleepy, to the point I almost cant keep awake. I call the pharm and the on call Dr. and they have no clue why I am reacting this way. Any help?

I'm on phentermine and I just found out I was pregnant, will I miscarry if I do not stop taking the phentermine?
C

AskDocWeb: Not necessarily but you should consult with your OB/GYN.

Subj: Spotting?
Date: 5/22/2008
I just began phentermine about a week ago. Could it cause me to spot rather than have my period?
Athena

AskDocWeb: Yes it can change your periods but if there's any chance you could be pregnant, do a home pregnancy test to make sure.

Subj: Aggressive and angry
Date: 5/29/2008
I get very aggressive and angry can that be a side effect as well?
Bee

AskDocWeb: Yes it can because Phentermine stimulates the central nervous system.

Subj: Phentermine dieting while weight lifting?
Date: 6/5/2008
Male. 40 years old. 5'10" 256lbs. Second day on Phentermine 37.5mg/day. Question #1: Are very mild tremors normal? Question #2: I lift heavy weights, as well as, do extensive cardio and push myself really-really hard when I train. Is it safe (as long as my hr/BP are WNL)? Question #3: I use a product called "NO XPLODE" prior to lifting weights. It has creatinine, caffeine, etc. Is it safe to use this product while on Phentermine. PS-Your forums are very interesting and educating----Thank you for making all this information available to us!
JM

AskDocWeb: No, tremors are not normal. Exercise is fine while on phentermine, as long as you do not have heart palpitations or rapid pulse and high blood pressure. You may want to contact the manufacturer of "No explode" as we have no information on it.

Subj: Body aches
Date: 6/6/2008
This is my second month on Phentermine 37.5 dose that was prescribed by my Md. I have not noticed a change in my weight. First month MD said I lost 5 lbs. I am going to see him next week and have not noticed any more weight loss. Can my problem be that I am taking synthroid for my thyroid? My body feels very achey at my neck and back areas. Is this a side effect? Thank you.
Erms

AskDocWeb: No, body aches are not listed as a side effect of Phentermine.

Subj: Extreme moodiness
Date: 6/9/2008
I've been taking phen for a month and have lost 13 lbs. I have had a few bad headaches, but they've been pretty rare. The only side effect that I'm really bothered about lately is the extreme moodiness it has caused me. I've been yelling at friends and family and even people I don't know. Things that would normally just bother me a bit are now really bothering me to a point where I feel like I HAVE to say something. I don't know what to do about that.
Hah131

AskDocWeb: This is a common problem with weight loss medications. It might would be useful to review your anger management skills.

Subj: It's not working
Date: 6/9/2008
I have been using phentermine for about 3 years now and when I first began taking it I lost 30lbs really fast. Now it seems that I have gained 20 of it back and it doesn't seem to be going back down no matter what I do. Should I stop taking it for awhile and if I do, will I lose any weight again?
Tiffany

AskDocWeb: If it isn't working for you now then you may want to consult with your physician for an alternative.

Subj: Ambien while on phentermine?
Date: 6/17/2008
I have occasionally taken phentermine for years. I have never abused it, It helps when I need the motivation {like once every 3 days)but the rest is up to me. My question is, does anyone ever take ambien while they are on the phentermine? I try not to but occasionally I do take them in the same day when I absolutely cannot sleep. My doctor says ocassionally is OK but I would like some stricter guidlines. (it is 5mg of ambien/zolpidem) not alot but enough to help me fall asleep. Thoughts anyone?
Ruth

AskDocWeb: Remember that Phentermine is a stimulant and taking it too late in the day is known to cause insomnia.

Subj: Muscle pain in back
Date: 6/18/2008
I have been taking phentermine on and off for the last 2 years, the first time I taken the pill everything was fine and whenever I start taking the pills again I get a really uncomfortable muscle pain in my back, how come when I take this pill the pain comes back? The pain is in the middle of my back but more over to the left side. Is this a side effect from the pill.
Lauren

AskDocWeb: It is not listed as a side effect and should be reported to your doctor.
