Subj: Difficult swallowing
I started taking Phentermine 37.5 mg today. I halfed the tablet and took one half about 2 hours ago. I started feeling a burning sensation in my chest and is feels like there is something stuck in my esophagus that I can't swallow. I also have a slight tingling headache at the base of my head in the back. Is this normal? BTW I am also on Wellbutrin. My doctor is aware of it, but did not say anything about a possible interaction. Please let me know if I should expect an interaction. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
AskDocWeb: No, that is not normal. Difficulty in swallowing is one of the signs of an allergic reaction and should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible.
Subj: Phentermine is helping
I started using phentermine 6/24/08. I do not take a dose on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday) since I don't want my body to get addicted to it. I feel it is helping me practice portion control and encouraging me to make exercise a regular part of my routine. I try to ride my bike 6 miles every day, sometimes I miss a day sometimes I don't and I have recently signed up at a local gym to start some strength training. The first week I lost 6.4 lbs, the second week 1.6 and the third week (today was the end of my third week) I lost 3.4 lbs. As far as side affects, I only got dry mouth the first week and a half and I have been sleeping just fine. My scalp itches just a little about 2 hours after I take the pill but other than that nothing else. It has not affected my menses but then again I am on birth control. I believe this pill is strictly for people who need the extra push to get them to change eating habits and incorporate some good 'ole' exercise into their lives. I am 5'1 and weighed 166.6 when my nurse practitioner prescribed it to me and I am now down to 154. I am no longer considered obese, now the BMI tracker says slightly overweight!! For me that is an accomplishment. I plan to continue my changes in eating (portion control) and excercise (biking and strength training) even after I am done with Phentermine. I started with 30 pills and currently have 13 left. I do not know how many weeks she wants me on the pill but I go in next Monday to weigh in and get a checkup. Thanks for all the good advice and common sense on here!
Subj: Phentermine and wine?
Hi, I just started Phentermine just today 15 mg and it feels fantastic! I feel perfect, I know that sounds weird but I feel so good, is that normal? I don't want to get addicted I just need the self control for now because I can't seem to control my apetite, but today because of the phentermine I have control and I don't feel hungry. I noticed tonight I felt a little hungry but I could take it or leave it. I also noticed I had a slight headache but if it means losing weight I can deal with it. I did have a glass of white zinfindale, is that bad? Well staring tomorrow I plan on going to the gym and working out and really watching my diet. I need to lose 45 lbs and than I'll wiegh 120 lbs. Is it okay to have a drink at night?
AskDocWeb: A single glass of wine is not likely to do any harm. It is the excessive use of alcohol that causes problems.
Subj: Phentermine makes me extremely irritable
I have been taking phentermine off and on for about 1.5 years with great success. However, these pills makes me extremely irritable and causes me to have very bad mood swings. I still have about 20 lbs. to lose. Is there a natural vitamin that I can with these pills to help with the irritability and mood swings? What ingredient in the pills causes irritability?
AskDocWeb: The ingredient is called phenyl-tertiary-butylamine hydrochloride but that doesn't help you much. Rather than looking for a natural vitamin we suggest you talk to your doctor about the irritation and find out if there is an alternative that may work better for you. And consider the possibility that if you get more exercise your mood will improve.
Subj: Hair loss
I been on phetermine for about 8 months I lost alot of weight but know I just notice my hair stater to fall off.. what should I do? I'm only 22 yrs and I don't alot of hair any more.
AskDocWeb: Loosing a lot of weight can be stressful to the point where hair loss occurs. You will be glad to know that this type of hair loss is temporary and the hair you lose will grow back once your weight stabilizes. If the hair loss continues then we suggest you get a physical. A medical exam can check your thyroid and other possible causes of hair loss.
Subj: Stretch marks?
I have weird lines on both my forearms that look like stretchmarks, dark ones, but my mom says seems to be a rash because it is even on both arms. Is this heard of?
AskDocWeb: Without more detail, it is difficult to say. It may be a good idea to have a doctor check it out.
Subj: Heart palpitations
I have had heart palpitations for approx. 6 yrs now. They come and go. I have take Taken Phentermine in the past prior to it all starting and I probably have taken it 3 other time since, for approx. 3 months each time. Could this cause palpitations. Also sometimes when I get them, they are so so bad, I freak out cause it's like it's sucking the air from me and it keeps me up for hours and then I feel like I'm going to die. I have been checked so much over the years and all I hear is anxiety. This feeling in my chest is what causes it. What can I do to make the palpitations stop? It scares me terribly.
AskDocWeb: What you do to make them stop depends on what is causing them. Phentermine is known to cause rapid or irregular heartbeats.
Subj: Phentermine and cough
Hi. I have been taking (half of 37.5 once daily) Phentermine for about two weeks now. A couple of days ago I developed a mild sore throat and an annoying dry cough. I do not feel sick and do not have any shortness of breath or trouble breathing besides the cough. Could the cough be an allergy to the Phentermine or just a cold? Thank you for your help.
AskDocWeb: The cough may or may not be a result of not drinking enough water but others are also bothered by this side effect. While it could be just a cold it is not likely to be an allergy.
Subj: Love the results of Phentermine
I have been on Phentermine for 15 weeks and has lost a total of 40 lbs. I have an increased level of energy and love the results I see. I have dropped about 3 dress sizes. I still have about 30lbs to go and look forward to seeing the ending results.
Subj: Phentermine and pimples
I'm taking phentermine it works great for me, but I have a trauma because my face is always pretty clean and I wasn't sure if it was the pills but now I think that the pills are giving me pimples which has me going crazy and I'm even stress about this can it be the pills because I don't know what else it can be? Thanks,
AskDocWeb: It is not listed as a side effect but several people have reported problems with pimples and acne while taking Phentermine.
Subj: Diet pill phentermine
I have never been able to lose weight on a "diet", because my metabolism wasn't functioning properly, but with phentermine, I've lost 29 lbs. in 6 wks... My first 3 1/2 weeks, I lost 17.5! I love it... I'm losing weight, looking great and feeling great! I started out at 260 lbs and 4'10"! I'm on my way! oh yea... I have lost down 1 1/2 pant sizes and 3 shirt sizes... 24 to 22's and they're getting loose and from 3x to 1x and even some XL! Don't think just because you're big it won't work... I thought the same thing... I was sure it wasn't going to help... I lied to myself :)
Subj: Random drug testing
My company does random drug testing. I was off work for a few weeks because off bone spur removed from my foot. When I went back to work I had a urine test which past. Maybe a week later I had another one and it tested positive for marijuana? I was very confused about this. The lab called and ask if I wanted the other half of the urine tested and I said yes. The company put me off work until I got the urine test back. The day I was sent home I went to a lab and had my own test done, it came back neg. The doctor had put me on darvocet after my foot surgery, but they made my stomach upset, so I just took ibuproben. Could this have caused this? I'm really confused.
AskDocWeb: Yes, according to references 1, 3, 16, 18, and 29 urine tests sometimes mistake Ibuprofen for Marijuana (THC).
Subj: Increased desire to smoke
I took phentermine last year for approximately six months, but I only took it at 1/2 dose per day instead of the entire 37.5 mg. It worked great that way, and I have maintained my weight loss since last October. I lost the majority of the weight early, of course, but continued to lose until I reached my goal. One side effect that I noticed was an increased desire to smoke. (I noticed another person had this effect.) I went from a half-a-pack-a-day smoker to over a pack. This went away when I stopped taking the phentermine.
Subj: Phentermine hair loss
Hey I've been taken them for a month an a half now, and my hair is coming out everywhere, it was already thin now I have a bald spot in the crown, but I lost 8 pounds the first month.
Subj: Loosing 4 pounds a week
I started taking phentermine 3 weeks ago and lost 12 pounds. I basically loose up to 4 pounds a week, which is awesome for not working out. For those of you that are not sure whether it works it does. It takes a little getting used to but a week into it you will. My doctor also prescribed a fluid pill because I am retaining water and that makes it even better.
Subj: Phentermine and menstrual cycle
Hi, I was taking phentermine (18.5mg) for about 3 weeks I decided to stop taking it as was not losing hardly any weight on it and of course the expense. Can it affect the menstrual cycle when stopping it, as I am regular and never late with my periods. It is a possibility that I could have got pregnant??? I am now 11 days late am I pregnant? Or am I confusing withdrawal symptoms from the drug for this? It is now over 3 weeks since I stopped taking the phentermine.
AskDocWeb: Phentermine should have no affect on your menstrual cycle after you quit taking it so you may want to do a pregnancy test.
Subj: Phentermine works well
Phentermine works well for I lost 15pounds in one month, it works all u do is change your diet stop eating rice and less sugar in your diet.
Subj: Stop the habit
I have been taking Phentermine 37.5 for several years, I started by taking one a day and now I take two a day. I want to stop but my doctor doesn't know I am using the pills since I get them over the internet, other than sending me to the doctor, what else can I do to stop the habit?
AskDocWeb: First you throw the pills in the trash and then you stop buying them. Instead of wasting your money on a dangerous habit, consider investing it in your health by seeing a doctor.
This drug is for short term use only! Beware of getting into a habit with this medication. Myself and several friends had terrible depression when stopping this medication. All that wonderful energy just went away and took some extra when it left. And I regained more weight than I had lost! I tried it twice with the same results.
