Subj: Donated a kidney
Hello I went to see a weight Dr. and he gives phenteramine 37.5mg to his patients. The problem is that I donated a kidney to my son last fall and I'm kinda concern will it harm me?
AskDocWeb: If your doctor says it's okay then it is not likely to cause any problems. No affect on the kidneys is noted in our references.
Subj: It isn't working anymore
In 1996 I lost 50 lbs with phentermine. I took it on and off until 2002 when I got pregnant. Lost the 70 lbs I gained. Got pregnant again in 2005, gained another 70 lbs. Been taking phentermine since 8/06. I lost a total of only 50 lbs, it isn't working anymore. I was up to 2 doses of 37.5mg and my doc keeps giving it to me. Lately I have been experiencing all the symptoms of hypo thyroid, but my blood tests came back normal. Could the drugs be causing me to feel awful? Help.
AskDocWeb: When this drug is taken beyond the point where it stops working, it's possible to experience most if not all the negative side effects without getting any benefit. Remember that Phentermine is a short-term treatment of obesity. If it isn't working then maybe it's time to try something else.
I just began phentermine 37.5mg 3 days ago and I would like to know if I could take my vitamins (centurm) at the same time.
AskDocWeb: Yes, taking vitamins while dieting is a good idea.
I was on Bontril for three months and really liked the results. My doctor said to try Phentermine, which I have been on four about 4-5 days. I have noticed my fingers and hands swelling; especially my left hand to the point I can't get my wedding bands off. This is very noticeable since my rings have almost fallen off with weight loss from Bontril. All I can contribute the swelling to is the Phentermine. Is that possible?
AskDocWeb: Yes and this is one of the side effects that needs to be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Stomach pains
I just started taking Phentermine yesterday. I work in a pharmacy so I have spoke to different people to see if it worked for them. It did... except this one woman said Adipex did much better than Phentermine? I noticed I become almost "high" and talkative. I am 21 years old. Don't have any medical issues. It suppresses my hunger which is great BUT my stomach hurts horribly and I become flushed and slow, not to mention a bit gaseous (I'm guessing due to the side effect of constipation?). I don't understand how some people exercise on this medication. How can I get rid of the stomach pains?? Am I able to take motrin/excedrin/ibuprofen while on phentermine?
AskDocWeb: Drinking a lot more water may help somewhat. The stomach pains may go away as your body adapts to the drug but if it persists or become bothersome tell your doctor.
Subj: Dry mouth and blurred vision
Hi, I've been on phentermine for only a week now and I've lost around 7 pounds it's wonderful. I needed to lose weight from my pregnancy. My work is very active so I havent worked out lately and it is still working I have had dry mouth and a bit of blurred vision but it hasnt been too bad...if you have weight to lose you should take this med!
AskDocWeb: Blurred vision may be a sign of a bad reaction and should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Urinating alot more
The doctor put me on Phentermine a week tomorrow. I had lost 50 pounds on my own going from 230 to 180 but I couldn't get pass the 180 point. It has almost been a week on Phentermine and I have lost 6 pounds. A lot I'm sure is water weight because I have been urinating alot more. I have noticed I get hot flashes some and dry mouth. Other than that I feel fine. I don't get jittery and it doesn't bother my sleep. I don't seem to have more energy just yet.
Subj: Managed to keep the weight off
I took 37.5 mg of Phentermine for 4 months and lost 25 lbs. I didnt really change my diet, except that I wasnt as hungry and I didnt crave junk food as I had before. I have been off of the Phentermine and have managed to keep the weight off. My doctor would not give me any more rx but I would like to lose the additional 5 lbs that was part of my goal. Does it eventually quit working - my doctor never gave an answer as to why I could not have another rx.
AskDocWeb: Yes, Phentermine is for short-term use because it is only effective short-term. It does stop working after awhile.
Subj: So tired
I have just started taking Phentermine today. I am extremely tired, and it suppresses my appetite to a certain point but I am still hungry. All I have done all day is sleep and I get cold easily. I read through others comments and I'm glad I'm not alone. I hope that this will wear off and start working for me because I want to lose the weight. I'm just concerned as to why an amphetamine would cause me to be so tired.
Subj: Phentermine stopped working after a week
Everything I read says that people build up a tollerance to Phentermine after a month or so. It stopped working for me after a week. I'm not taking the Adepex-P... just the generic 37.5 mg tablets. Could it make that big a difference? Does taking 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at night help? Your help is appreciated. Thanks.
AskDocWeb: That wouldn't help. If you built up a tolerance for it then you should consult with your doctor about an alternative.
Subj: Diarrhea and vomiting
If I experience diareah and vomitting the first day I took phentermine. Is it ok to just cut the dose in half and see if that works. Or should I discontinue use immediately? I also experienced mood changes and restlessness and insomnia. But I only took one on the first day.
AskDocWeb: This sounds like your body is adjusting to the Phentermine. Don't adjust the dosage without checking with your doctor first.
Subj: Phentermine with valtrex?
I was diagnosed with HSV last March, my question is can I take the diet pill phentermine(37.5mg) with valtrex (500mg)? I only take the valtrex once a day & I want to take the diet pill once a day half a tablet. Just to comment on taking valtrex, I have been taking it since April of last year and when I'm not consistant I have outbreaks. I believe most of my outbreaks come from stressing out that I have HSV & no one knows except for me & the dr. I stress out from time to time because I'm disgusted with myself. Anyhow I don't remember having any outbreaks prior to taking the medicine but now that I take it if I don't I have an outbreak, but I had numerous amounts of what I thought was yeast infections. Mentally I add more stress because I haven't shared this information with anyone which is more of a burden then it has to be. I make sure I take my meds everyday once a day haven't had any side effects except for probably depression but depression comes from not sharing how I feel. No pain I have gained a few pounds but depression can cause you to pick up bad habits from time to time.
AskDocWeb: There are no interactions listed between valtrex and phentermine.
Subj: No side effects
I've been on Phentermine for a week now, and I love it so far dropped 7 lbs. Been excercising, and don't ever feel hungry, but I eat very small meals, because I don't want to go without eating entirely. I have fibro, so doctor also put me on 50 mg. of Trazodone to take at bedtime, and I sleep very well. The combo of the Phen and Traz works great for me. The Phen I take at 6:00 each morning. I have no side effects to speak of. My Phen prescription is 15 mg. So far, so good. Maybe your dosage is to high for some of you. Talk to your doctor about it, and good luck and God Bless.
Subj: Haven't lost
I have been taking phentermine 37.5 mg for about 6 months and lost 40 lbs and I'm still taking the medication but for some reason I've remained on the same weight haven't lost anymore pounds does anyone know why this happens or what I can do to lose more pounds?
AskDocWeb: As happens with most diet drugs, the body builds up a tolerance for it and it stops working. To lose more pounds you might consider changing your approach. What lifestyle changes could you make that would increase your level of physical activity? If you make it something fun then you are more likely to stay with it.
Subj: Red eyes
I have been on PHENTERMINE now for two weeks and I have noticed within the last three days my eyes have been really red, and been burning alot. Could this be a side effect of the medication?
AskDocWeb: No, that is not listed as a side effect Phentermine.
Subj: Hope it works
I am going to start this med tomorrow. I hope it works I have like 100 lbs to loose. Pray for me!!!
AskDocWeb: Good luck Pamela. Be sure to follow all of the doctor's instructions.
Subj: Nursing while taking Phentermine?
I have a 26 month old that only nurses at nap time and bed time. I stopped nursing her yesterday because I started taking phentermine for weight loss. She is doing fine with nap time but is not taking well to not having it at bed time. My question is I take the phentermine in the morning between 7 and 8. I only take the one dose. Can I nurse her at night between 10 and 11 without it affecting her? Thanks.
AskDocWeb: Phentermine can stay in the body for up to a month after discontinuing. Breast feeding while taking Phentermine should be discussed with your doctor.
I lost 20 pounds using phentermine earlier this year and stopped using it for awhile to give my body a break. I have started using it again to continue my weight loss and found that it gave me a headache. What could cause this side effect? I had no problems earlier.
AskDocWeb: The way your body responds to this drug changes over time. Headaches are one of the side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Short term memory loss
I have been taking Phertermine for about 4 months now and have lost 13 pounds with ease. Problem is, I have noticed short term memory loss to the point that it is affecting my work performance. I've been known for my photographic memory my whole life. Now, I can't recall most things that I've done today, or any day recently. Is this permanent?
AskDocWeb: Several people have reported memory problems but since it is not listed as an "official" side effect, the possibility that it may or may not be permanent has not been addressed.
Subj: Face and arms are numb
I just took my first dose of phentermine hcl 30mg about 2 hours ago and my face and upper arms are now numb. Is this normal or am I having an allergic reaction? (I'm allergic to most antibiotics and this is what happens except my face and throat swell, which hasn't happened...yet).
AskDocWeb: It is not normal or common so contact your doctor as soon as possible.
