Subj: Back pain with Phentermine
I have started taking Phentermine and it does work, but I am having excruciating back pain. Is this a possible side effect?
AskDocWeb: A couple of people have reported back pain when taking Phentermine but it is not listed among the "official" side effects. It may or may not be coincidence.
subj: Phentermine is the best
i have been taking phentermine 30mg/yellow capsules for almost a year on and off and lost 40 lbs initially I have kept it off for 7 months. It was the absolute best thing I could have spent my money on.
Subj: Phentermine and surgery
What if any are the risks of taking Phentermine prior to surgery? Is there a time limit that I should stop taking Phentermine prior to surgery?
AskDocWeb: Although Phentermine is not a blood thinner it has been reported to interfere with anesthesia. Several sources said to stop taking it two weeks before surgery and one source said three weeks.
Subj: Phentermine and seizures
I took phentermine about 5 years ago, with no problems. A few years later, I went on Prozac for depression, and for a short while, I went back on Phentermine while I was taking Prozac as well. During that time, I had a seizure. I've never had an epileptic seizure in my life before that time. Does phentermine have this effect, or is it because I combined the two drugs? Thanks for your help.
AskDocWeb: Yes, phentermine can over stimulate the central nervous system.
Subj: Passed out on Phentermine
Hi, I've been taking Phentermine which I ordered online line for about 2 years. My weight before taking Phentermine was 196 I now weigh 143. I did not have any side effects from the medication with the exception of dry mouth and a hard time falling asleep and only sleeping for a couple of hours a night, however I did not feel tried in the morning. Over the last month I started feeling really light headed and feeling like I was going to pass out when I got this feeling I would sit down and the feeling would pass. However, the other night I passed out cold on the floor which caused me to hit my month and bruising to my face. I think I bit my upper and lower lip. Could the Phentermine?
AskDocWeb: Yes, it could be the Phentermine. Maybe it is time to check your BMI. Loosing too much weight can cause other problems as well.
Subj: MV and Phentermine
I was diagnosed with mv but not a severe case. Is it alright to take phentermine for a short time?
AskDocWeb: That is a question for your doctor to answer. This website is about the side effects and effectiveness of health products, not medical advice.
Subj: 3 weeks of Phentermine
I've been on Phentermine for 3 weeks and have peripheral edema, tremors, dizziness, headaches and elevated blood pressure. Anyone taking this should be careful.
AskDocWeb: I hope you discontinued phentermine as soon as the first reaction to the med began and reported this to your doctor.
Subj: Sleep apnea and Phentermine
I read phentermine can cause breathing problems...can it cause sleep apnea? I have been experiencing sleep apnea symptoms (waking up during sleep gasping for air-and I've been very tired). I've been on the medication for about 5 weeks (with some short breaks), but I can't remember if my breathing problem started before or after I starting taking the medication. I do have allergies and asthma, but take medications for both (zyrtek and advair) and shots for allergies. I also take Wellbutrin 300XL. I've had great weight loss results and would hate to stop taking it already, but will gladly choose breathing and sleeping over being thin. Thank you for any information you can provide.
AskDocWeb: With all the problems you mentioned, you should be letting your doctor make that kind of decision. You need to have one doctor fully informed of every treatment and medication you are taking, otherwise your health is in danger.
Subj: Drug test and Phentermine
How long does Phentermine stay in the system? I ask b/c I gave my mother a pill to try and now, 2 weeks later, she is afraid that if she is given a drug test with a bit of phentermine in her blood, she will fail the test and get fired from her job. How long does it show up on a drug screen?
AskDocWeb: It is illegal to share prescription drugs with other people. Phentermine may take about two weeks to leave the system so she should probably be okay now.
Subj: Phentermine and birth control
By taking Phentermine, does it cause birth control pills to become less effective? Also, I have been taking the pills for about 2 weeks and suddenly began spotting. The spotting has been going on for about 2 weeks now. Does it have anything to do with taking birth control pills when taking this medicine? Thank you.
AskDocWeb: There is no evidence to suggest that the use of Phentermine might alter the effectiveness of birth control pills. However, Phentermine has been reported to affect periods causing such changes as no period, late period, early period, and spotting. Since this has been going on for two weeks, you should have it checked out.
Subj: Phentermine and smoking
Does anyone want to smoke while they're on phentermine? I noticed every time I go back on I want to smoke cigs. When I quit the pills I never want to smoke.
AskDocWeb: This has not come up before. It may be that you have made an association between the two. Phentermine does stimulate the nervous system so you may be trying to calm down by smoking. A better alternative is to put that extra energy to good use, increase your physical activity.
Subj: Memory loss and Phentermine
I have been experiencing short term memory loss and have trouble concentrating. Is this a side effect? I see someone else here mentioned that and am worried it might be permanent. Please advise, I'm worried I will lose my job.
AskDocWeb: You are the third person to report short-term memory loss being associated with phentermine but it was not listed as a side effect by the durg company that makes Phentermine.
Subj: Serious dryness with Phentermine
I have been taking phentermine for 9 months now, and it works great! One side affect I have noticed though is serious dryness of the mouth. It is like I can never produce saliva, I have to carry water with me at all times. Is this a side affect that should have stayed this serious? Please Help!
AskDocWeb: Yes, you must drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration while on this medication.
Subj: Phentermine and colonoscopy
I have been taking phentermine on and off for about 10 months. I mostly take it for the extra energy. I have to have a routine colonoscopy in 2 weeks, how long does the phentermine stay in your system and how long do I need to be off of it prior to this procedure?
AskDocWeb: You don't need to be off of phentermine for a colonoscopy. Personal note about colonoscopy; if possible have someone you trust with you for a couple days following the procedure. I remember only two sentences of a two hour conversation I had upon returning home after my procedure.
Subj: Phentermine is amazing
I have tried other weight loss pills but Phentermine is amazing. I have so much energy and have lost 7 pounds in two weeks. It's definitely worth a try.
Subj: No action
I just started taking phentermine and it hasn't done anything for me on the first two days I still feel hungry what can this be, does it take awhile to get in your system ort what
AskDocWeb: Yes, it does take awhile, give it at least three weeks.
Subj: Swelling inner thighs
I have been taking phentermine for approximately 2 weeks and am having success. The only unusual side effect that I've noticed is a burning in my inner thighs and swelling...only in that area. This is confusing to me and extremely bothersome. Could you please tell me why this is happening only in this area....and what I could possibly do about it?
AskDocWeb: Any swelling of the legs/ankles/feet should be reported to your physician as soon as possible.
Subj: Lines under eyes
I have been on adipex for about 90 days and I have lines under my eyes, is this normal? Will they go away?
AskDocWeb: We did not find this side effect noted. Whether or not it goes away depends on the cause and they could have a number of causes.
Subj: Red rash on face
Shortly after starting the phentermine I broke out in a red rash only on my face and it itches and looks bad. Do you think this is from the phentermine or something else crazy going on?
AskDocWeb: Sounds like you may be having an allergic reaction to phentermine, please see your doctor.
Subj: 35lbs in 7weeks?
I was reading the several testimonies and I don't understand how someone can lose 35lbs in 7weeks, that is amazing, please tell me how is that possible? I just started taking adipex-p 37.5 today March 25, 2005 and I only took half of the pill to see if I can tolerate it, then I will take the whole pill but as for these people who claim they lost all of this weight in this short time, what pill was they taking and how many milligrams?
AskDocWeb: You have to be careful about reading too much into such posts. Without knowing how much weight they started with and the details of their diet and exercise program, such posts don't really say much. There are a lot of factors to consider.
Subj: Hair loss with Phentermine
I've been taking Phentermine for a about 3 months, I've lost inches not lbs. but most of all I've lost a lot of hair. Why?! I mean a lot of hair. HELP ME, is there something I can to, besides vitamins, which I'm also taking. HELP,
AskDocWeb: We have not read any documentation associating hair loss with this medication. Sounds like you need to visit a dermatologist to find out what is causing your hair loss.
Subj: Benicar and weight loss
I am currently taking Benicar 40mg for high blood pressure. Is it safe to take Benicar with Phentermine. Or should I not take the Benicar?
AskDocWeb: You seem to have this turned around. It is more important to take care of the immediate threat of high blood pressure than it is to loose weight. If your high blood pressure is dangerously high, you can not safely take phentermine. Even if your blood pressure is under control, your doctor may still say no to the Phentermine. Side effects of this drug include elevated blood pressure or increased blood pressure and rapid or irregular heart beat.
Subj: Swelling and shortness of breath
I have been taking Phentermine for on and off for several years now and I think that I might have some long-term side effects. My lower legs are swollen everyday and in the last 2 months I have developed a shortness of breath. Do you have any information that might give me more information on this.
AskDocWeb: Difficulty breathing is a symptom that needs to be reported to your doctor. It is one of the signs of an overdose or that something has is wrong. When you make an appointment with your physician tell them why you want to be examined.
Subj: What diet with Phentermine
Hello, I am fixing to start taking Phentermine This week and I was just wondering what kind of diet should I follow? "low-carb"-"low calorie" what? Thanks,
AskDocWeb: We would cut out the carbs as much as possible.
