Subj: Red bumps on knuckles
I have taken Phentermine 38 to lose weight for the past 8 months. I am experiencing red bumps on my knuckles that look like a b-b under the skin and are not going away. They are only on my knuckles, and are not in clusters, but one single red bump with about 3 to 4 on each hand. They are not pus-filled, they don't itch, but if you pinch them, they mildly hurt. Could this be a reaction to the Phentermine? If so, how do I get rid of these bumps? I have tried everything and they have lasted a month so far. I get a new one on the next knuckle it seems weekly and are slow to grow but after about a week they get to be the size of a b-b. Help! And, thank you!
AskDocWeb: Red bumps on knuckles have not been reported as a side effect of Phentermine. Allergic reactions are typically not limited to one small area of the body. It is a good idea to have a doctor check any sores that do not heal.
I am on statin and I started taking phentermine is it okay?
AskDocWeb: It is okay only if the doctor who prescribed the Phentermine knows that you are taking a statin. There are currently six statin drugs on the market in the United States:
Subj: Vaginal bleeding during sex
Ok product been on a month and a half - was wondering if it is possible to cause vaginal bleeding during sex a friend and I have been taking about the same time and she has had same thing happen.
AskDocWeb: Although there are several reports of changes in period attributed to Phentermine and one report of vaginal bleeding, it is not normal so check with your doctor.
Subj: Don't buy Phentermine online
I've been on phentermine for a little over a month now. My doctor has also perscribed me topamax with it as well. I take 1 37.5 phentermine tablet in the am 1 hr before breakfast and 1 50 mg topamax tablet after dinner/ before bed (sometimes causes sleepiness) When first starting to take the medicine I was very jittery, nervous and had occasional mood swings, within 2 weeks the side effects were gone. Currently I have lost 16lbs and 3" in my waist. I also exercise 3-4 times a week for at least an hour. It definitely works. Once you hit your goal weight the doctors will help you off the pills, by then, you should be able to make better eating choices, and eating smaller portions. I would not suggest ordering the pills online, many are knock off pills. Also be careful when consuming alcohol on these pills!
Subj: Major back pain
I started taking Phentermine about 2 weeks ago. I have started experiencing major back pain and it is a pain I have never had before. I am normally very active and have had MINOR back aches from time to time but now my pain is severe and the only thing I have changed is taking Phentermine 2 weeks ago. I have read several other posts and learned others have experienced major back pain as well. Is this something that should be added to the side effects? Had I known this I probably wouldn't even have begun taking it. For me, the consequences outweigh losing the weight. I hope everyone is careful!
AskDocWeb: There is a growing number of people who have reported back pain when taking Phentermine but so far it is not listed among the officially recognized side effects.
Subj: How long can I take Phentermine?
I began taking Phentemine 37.5mg in Sept 19th and Nov 22 I have lost a total of 13lbs only. I am 45years old starting weight was 185lbs and now 172, I am 5"2 and still overweight not sure how much I should loose, but I have been sweating so bad, its dripping off, I would have to shower 2 to 3 times a day. First had a hard time sleeping now not so bad, but not thinking about food, why cant I loose more how long can I be on stay on this?
AskDocWeb: Phentermine has been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for short term use of no longer than three months.
I am PISSED!!!!! This drug has changed my husband who was always such a sweet natured man for everyone for the 20 years I've been married to him. Who the hell is this guy after one of these pills everyday for the last 3 YEARS???? I even called his doctor and told her "I don't know who is walking in the door" He shouldn't be on this and is NOT losing weight. She tole me to "STOP PLAYING DOCTOR I KNOW WHAT I"M DOING" I talked to the pharmacist who is ALSO a chemist and he told me it is pure speed!!! My marriage was almost OVER until I FIGURED THIS OUT!!!! Pissed because it took my wonderful, loving, kind hearted husband from me!!!!!! Fricken money market out there!!! BEWARE!!!
AskDocWeb: Three years? The FDA recommends no longer than three months. You might consider asking your pharmacist if they know of any good doctors in your area.
Subj: Lexapro and Phentermine?
I start Phen tomorrow and I currently take Lexapro. Are there any issues with taking Phen and being on a special diet? I am on the Medifast diet which consists of eating every 2-hours and only a total of 800-1000 calories per day. I weigh 185 and have 60 lbs to lose. I work out for an hour 3-4 times per week.
AskDocWeb: It is very important to tell your doctor about all prescription drugs you are taking, especially when taking Lexapro and considering a diet drug such as Phentermine. Our database says that a major drug interaction is possible if Lexapro and Phentermine are used together. You may want to ask your doctor about serotonin syndrome, the symptoms of which may include irritability, altered consciousness, confusion, hallucinations, and coma. Combining these drugs may also cause tachycardia, hyperthermia, diaphoresis, shivering, blood pressure lability, mydriasis, hyperreflexia, myoclonus, tremor, rigidity, ataxia, abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Of course if the known benefits outweigh the possible risks then it may still be possible to use them together with close monitoring for side effects.
Subj: Why stop taking something that works?
I am currently taking phentermine 37.5 mg --I had my family doctor write it out a couple of times--family doctors do not like giving this type of medication out why? I am currently seeing another doctor that deals with obesity--he writes it out once a month a does a blood pressure check and a weigh in that measures how much of a body fat % you lost...why stop taking something that works? You would not stop taking blood pressure meds because now you are in the normal range and same goes for any other type of meds-- I was at 257 in Feb and now I am at 175 in Nov -- but I am still at the recommended weight loss no more than 6-8 lbs a month is healthy.....like to lose another 45 or so ...Its great it reminds me of the diet pills that use to have ephedra in them. I love the "rush" feeling and all the complements I get from people I haven't seen in awhile--how much weight have you lost?
AskDocWeb: It appears that some doctors have not yet read the FDA recommendation about limiting the use of anorectic agents such as Phentermine to three months. The use of anorectic agents for longer than 3 months has been associated with a 23-fold increase in the risk of developing pulmonary hypertension.
Subj: My periods stopped
So the doctor got me on phentermine 2 yrs old. lost 20lbs. the month after I quick taking them my periods stopped for 6mos. doc had to give me provera. Started taking phentermine again n 3 mo.'s later my periods stopped again. Took 4 pregnancy tests all were neg. So could it be a side effect? If so I'm going to stop the med right away.
AskDocWeb: Menstrual changes are not listed in the side effects but there are several reports by women who have noticed changes in menstruation while taking Phentermine including missed periods.
Subj: Do it the right way
I started taking Phentermine 37.5 in February 2010. The first month, I lost 19 lbs. By the 3rd month, I had lost a total of 38 lbs. The prescription says to take 1/2 hr before meal, but in order to build my metabolism, I took the pill and started eating every 2 hours after that...even if it was just fruit. I stuck to fruit, veggie and meat only. No sugar, no dairy, no pasta, no bread. That was great but I didn't exercise. So when I stopped...I gained 28 lbs back. So my advise...do it the right way.
NOTE: When I didn't eat and drink during the day, for some reason, I had hemorroid issues every time. That forced me to get my schedule together when it came to my eating plan. Just wish I had kept it off by exercising. I tried after my sister lost about 45 lbs. She exercise and has kept it off. I'm about to try this again, the right way.
