Subj: Phentermine and pregnancy
Date: 5/4/2005
I just started taking phentermine and I was wondering if this pill makes it harder for a woman to get pregnant or if it has any effects on pregnancy

AskDocWeb: Not with pregnancy but there is a caution with nursing.

Subj: Extreme pain
Date: 5/4/2005
I have been taking phentermine for about 2 months. I work out 3 or 4 times a week and I try to eat right. I lost 17 pds. I look great. The only problem is the right side of my back feels like its burning. I went to the doctor and he thought I might have shingles. I have no blemishes at all. I was wondering if phentermine can cause the extreme pain I'm in. I have taking blood tests and if I cant find out anything I am getting an MRI. I love the results I've gotten from phentermine but the back pain I'm experiencing is unbearable. I know its not a muscle pull, and I don't think I have shingles, what do you think? Thank you,

AskDocWeb: You may also want to have your kidneys checked out. This type of pain hasn't been reported by anyone writing to this site, but please have it checked out thoroughly.

Subj: Face is numb and burning
Date: 5/5/2005
Hi, I started Phentermine this Sunday, So I've been on it 5 days now. Today, around 11, the left side of my face started feeling numb and then like it's burning. Can this be related?

AskDocWeb: Yes, it does sound like a reaction. Please tell your physician about the facial numbness.

Subj: Phentermine withdrawal?
Date: 5/5/2005
Is it normal after taking Phentermine for several years to have withdrawl symptoms of very sleepy and overall body aches after stopping drug?

AskDocWeb: Yes, your symptoms are the likely result of discontinuing use of this drug after prolonged use.

Subj: Phentermine and metabolism
Date: 5/5/2005
Will your metabolism increase if you stop taking phentermine or is the general weight gain just from eating more again? I don't understand if phentermine just decreases your appetite or actually changes your metabolism? Will you screw your metabolism up from stopping the medication?

AskDocWeb: Phentermine stimulates your nervous system much like amphetamines do. Your heart beats faster and your body uses more energy. If you stop taking it, you slow back down to normal.

Subj: Breastfeeding and Phentermine
Date: 5/6/2005
I am breastfeeding and would like to get all or some of the 70 pds I gained while pregnant. What effects does phentermine have on a nursing baby, Does it affect his heart? Is a lower dosage of the drug better while nursing? Thanks for your response, I really need to know.

AskDocWeb: The PDR says do not take phentermine while nursing, it would be passed through the breast milk.

Subj: Help for anyone with Phentermine
Date: 5/6/2005
I began taking the 37.5mg in February. I have lost about 25 pounds give or take a few. I usually take the pill in the early afternoon, that way it lasts all day and night. For the first 3 days I could not sleep at night but then I got back on schedule. It is very important to take these on an empty stomach and should wait about an hour afterwards. Then you will find yourself eating so much less than normally, also very important, I do not eat after 6:00 PM. I also drink only water maybe about 48oz a day because I hold it if I drink more than that. Also, I will go about 5 days on then take a break on the weekend and start back on Monday because I think when you take a break from them they just work better. You won't become immune to them so quickly. Hope this helps anyone who has not had good results with them.

Subj: Phentermine and blood pressure problems
Date: 5/9/2005
I have had several seizures in my life. Currently I haven't had a seizure in 2 years and am not on any medications. I had problems with my blood pressure prior to delivery (2 years ago) and occasionally when I consume pork, however I do have a prescription for hctz tabs for my blood pressure...can I use phentermine? I am obese and have friends with blood pressure problems who use it with no problem...I am scared about seizures.

AskDocWeb: Our sources indicate that you should not use phentermine with a blood pressure problem, sorry. Diet and exercise.

Subj: This drug has destroyed my family.
Date: 5/10/2005
My wife, a diabetic since 4, has been addicted to this for 4 years. It has caused severe issues at home and she cannot stop!! Because she buys them online from various companies and the companies continue to sell it to her. How can I get the online companies to stop selling it to her? I contact them directly but there are so many....Is there a master list of addicted people they refer to before selling it? Is this something the online drug companies can look into? There must be a way they cross reference client list to see who is an addict and who is not? I desperately need some advice. She is under doctor's care but the addition is far stronger.

AskDocWeb: You can call all of these online companies and it wouldn't do any good. There is a confidentiality law in place that prevents them from discussing her problem with you. You might try having a consultation with her doctor (along with your wife) to solve this problem. Have you thought about taking or canceling the credit cards that pay for these drugs?

Subj: Need to lose 30lbs
Date: 5/11/2005
I have elevated liver enzymes due to non alcoholic fatty liver disease. All my blood work is good with the exception of my AST and ALT, which is around 60 & 80. Would it be okay for me to take phentermine? I need to lose about 30 lbs. Thanks!
Kristi AskDocWeb This is a prescription medication for people who are seriously overweight. Your doctor is the only one able to say if it is okay or not.

Subj: Upper lip swelling
Date: 5/12/2005
I have been taking phentermine off and on for about 9 months. I was taking the 37.5 blue/white caps. This past time I got the 30mg yellow caps. I've never had any major reactions to the pills but over the past few days my upper lip has began swelling. It is getting bigger and bigger I stopped everything I thought it could be except the phentermine and now will be stopping that as well. Do you think it's the phentermine and why would I just start having an allergic reaction to it after all this time?

AskDocWeb: You had better see your physician, a swelling lip is one sign of a negative reaction to the phentermine.

Subj: Irritability with Phentermine
Date: 5/12/2005
I have experienced a loss of 20lbs in 3 months, I am exercising and eating well (South Beach), but not "dieting". Having issues with irritability (according to family members). Wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how you dealt with it?

Subj: Lost 7 pounds in 2 days
Date: 5/12/2005
I just started taking Phentermine 2 days ago and have lost 7 pounds already. I snack on fruit as I have no real desire to eat but I know my body needs it, and then I get hungry around dinnertime. As soon as I eat I get full and stay content throughout the night. I have not noticed any side effects except I'm very irritable. My Dr. also started me out on the highest dose 37.5 and prescribed me a 3 month supply I like the euphoric feeling it gives me. I will keep you updated I started out at 214 and now weigh 207 after just 2 days.

Subj: Stopping Phentermine to breast feed
Date: 5/12/2005
I stopped breast feeding my child a few days ago so I could start taking Phentermine. I've decided that I want to go on breast feeding. How long do I have to wait until the drug is out of my bloodstream/system? When can I start breastfeeding again? Thank You,

AskDocWeb: Most of it is out of the body in a couple of weeks but some Phentermine can stay in the body for up to a month after stopping. It is best to discuss this with your doctor beforehand.

Subj: Drug tests and Phentermine
Date: 5/14/2005
Does phentermine show up on a drug test as amphetamines? Or will it show up at all?

AskDocWeb: Yes, it could show up on a drug test as either Amphetamines and Ecstasy. (Ref: 3, 4, 11).

Subj: Anyone have this problem?
Date: 5/15/2005
I have been taking phentermine and other diet pills off and on for about four years now. At first the results were great, now taking a pill barely phases me. I also have seemed to develop some adult acne, which I have never had before. I don't know if it is the results of phentermine or just a hormonal change. Anyone have this problem?

AskDocWeb: These pills do lose their affect after awhile. The acne is likely just a hormonal change.

Subj: My addiction
Date: 5/15/2005
Hello, I started taking phentermine almost three years ago. I weighed 195lbs. I had just had my second child and needed to loose the weight. Well I lost 65lbs but could stop taking them. I have experienced dizziness, headaches when working out in the heat, severe mood swings, darkening under eyes, lymph nodes swelling behind ear or lower back of head, chest pains, sore throat, throat swelled once and couldn't breath. Emergency room thought it was a panic attack, and loss of hair throughout the past three years. The loss of hair started only about three months ago not extremely drastic but I notice while brushing my hair. I take the ortho evra patch and smoke and I am 26 years old. I really need some help with this problem. When I don't take them I feel physically drained and just want to lay constantly and far more moody than when I don't take them. I work out doors and feel like I have to have them to be able to do the landscaping work that I do. One 36.5 Phentermine doesn't work for me. I have been taking two for the past year. I have always gotten them of the Internet and I rarely ever go to the Doctor. Can someone help me with my addiction?

AskDocWeb: You sound like you're on the right track by admitting you have an addiction. Now talk to your doctor about how to safely quit.

Subj: Not obese?
Date: 5/17/2005
Is it good to take phentermine 37.5 if you are not obese? I am 160, 5'4. Will I loose weight faster since I'm not obese? Thanks

AskDocWeb: No, Phentermine is intended only for people who are obese.

Subj: Stopping Phentermine
