Subj: Difference between Adipex and Phentermine
2 questions please 1) is there a difference in Adipex and Phentermine 37.5 2) I have been on phentermine 37.5 for about 3 weeks... I have noticed that my nose gets bright red and hot but then it goes away... My dr had me chart my bp for a week and it was never high..he said he didn't think it was related...may be something else but just thought i would ask. Thanks
AskDocWeb: Adipex is the brand name of the diet pill that is made by GATE Pharmaceuticals. Inside the Adipex diet pills are two types of ingredients, inactive and active ingredients. "Phentermine" is the chemical name of the active ingredient in Adipex that reacts with a patient's body to suppress the appetite. Phentermine is known as a generic drug and Adipex diet pills contain phentermine. The inactive ingredients in Adipex include corn starch and colorant which are the elements of the diet pills that are mixed with phentermine to produce a pill that can easily be taken and ingested by a person. Other brands of diet pills that contain phentermine may have different inactive ingredients.
Subj: Vaginal burning after urinating
I've been using Phentermine 30 mg for 5 days, and I've noticed that I'm starting to have vaginal discomfort such as mild vaginal burning after urinating. Is this a typical side effect of the drug amongst women?
AskDocWeb: No, that is not typical side effect for this drug. Vaginal burning after urinating is not specifically mentioned but it is included in the category of difficulty urinating. This is listed as one of the possible side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Weird side effects
Hi I have been on Phentermine for a long time and I have cut the dose back on the last few months and started to have some weird side effects like sometime the odd irregular heartbeat which I never had before Could this be withdrawal from this drug and do you know what types of withdrawal symptoms there are for this drug as I have been told you need to come of this slowly.
AskDocWeb: It may seem weird to you but it is not all that unusual. An irregular heartbeat and pounding heart are listed as possible side effects that should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: I'm scared of the side effects!
I was prescribed phentermine and plan on starting it tomorrow....I am getting ready to start my monthly cycle and already deal with dizziness, irregular heart beat, and anxiety during this time. I'm afraid that taking (i'm planning on cutting the pill in half) will cause me to totally freak out. Should I even take phentermine? I'm scared of the side effects!
AskDocWeb: Hello Adina. First take a deep breath and relax a little so you can think about this clearly. If you already experience dizziness, irregular heartbeat, and anxiety, these things should be discussed with your doctor before taking Phentermine. Your doctor will not prescribe Phentermine unless the known benefits outweigh the possible risks.
I am on several meds: Phentermine, Ambien, Cymbalta, most recently Vaniqua cream for hair removal. My mouth is sore, burning, and i have a lot of salive. Any ideas which med or combo of is causing this?
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you have burning mouth syndrome.
Subj: Bags and face puffiness?
Can Phetermine cause bags and face puffiness? I have been on it once before 2 years ago and did not have this problem.
AskDocWeb: Bags and facial puffiness are two types of swelling and that is listed as one of the possible side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Under eye puffiness
Does Phentermine contain sodium? I noticed recently that under my eyes in the mornings I am puffy and only a bit of it goes away. Never had this problem before taking Phen. Thanks!
AskDocWeb: Please see the answer for Dee above this post.
Subj: Dizziness and tremors
WHEN I BEND OVER TO TO PICK SOMETHING UP, I GET DIZZY BEHIND MY EYES AND MY HEAD FEELS CLOUDY, WHY? AFTER A FEW DAYS, I DEVELOP A STRANGE LITTLE TWITCH IN MY LIP??? IF I TAKE 1 EVERY DAY, I REALLY START TO FEEL BAD IN MY MIND AND MY BODY, SO I TAKE 1 A DAY FOR 2 DAYS THEN TAKE A DAY OFF. IS IT BAD FOR YOUR SYSTEM TO SWITCH IT UP LIKE THAT?
AskDocWeb: That little twitch is called a tremor. Both dizziness and tremors are warning signs of possible problems. These are listed as possible side effects of Phentermine that should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Smiling from ear to ear
Hi my name is Amanda and I have been on Phentermine for almost two weeks now. I went to the doctor and we talked about a meal plan and what I planned to do when I came off the drug. We discussed excercising very lightly at first since I was having some trouble breathing when cllimbing stairs and we talked about the lifestyle change that needs to take place while on the drug.
I am proud to announce that in my first 8 days I lost a total of 9 lbs. The first day I took the pill I had some blurry vision and my heart was beating out of my chest but I read somewhere that the first day was always like that. The second day I had no effects like the first one.
I am so glad that my doctor was so easy to talk to. She really made me feel comfortable and helped me to UNDERSTAND this pill instead of some doctors who just kind of throw things at you. I do realize that the first week of weight loss is primarily water weight but it still felt really good. I have not weighed myself since that eighth day since my scale at home is broken but I am confident that the choices I am making with food will enhance the pills abilities.
I eat raw veggies alot and drink water, water, water!!! I like mine with lemon. I eat chicken without the skin and little snacks of other things while watching portion control. I will admit that I have skipped a couple of days of it since it just seems like I need to recouperate from it sometimes. I didn't think that I would've lost that much weight that first week but I was so happy when I did. I was so happy to find a thread that had current dates on it so I hope this update finds everyone well and CONGRATS on the progress!! That's awesome! Oh I was at 238 and I weighed and was at 229.6. I was smiling from ear to ear to see that! Great to be going through this with all of you!
AskDocWeb: Good job Amanda! It sounds like you are off to a great start. Nothing improves your mood like making progress toward a healthy goal.
Subj: Phentermine and birth control
Can I take phentermine and birth control together?
AskDocWeb: Phentermine has not been reported to affect the effectiveness of any birth control. However, there are several reports that Phentermine caused changes in the menstrual cycle, anywhere from spotting to missed periods.
Subj: Primary pulmonary hypertension
In all articles I've read, primary pulmonary hypertension has been linked as a rare side effect of the combined use of phentermine and fenfluramine. Is this side effect linked to phentermine use on its own?
AskDocWeb: The reports of primary pulmonary hypertension involved the combination of these drugs but not when Phentermine was used as the sole appetite suppressant.
Subj: Can it harm my health?
I got some Phentermine from an NP when I needed to lose about 15 lbs., and I lost that in the first couple of weeks. Now, I'm probably a little underweight, but I can't stop taking the phentermine because I feel so good when I take it. I only take it for 6 or 7 days, and then I take a break for about 3 weeks before I do another week. I only take half of a pill at a time (because the NP told me I couldn't do full strength since she said I wasn't technically overweight). The only side effect I have is that I cannot sleep all night the day I stop taking the Phentermine unless I start taking 5HTP and take it for a couple of days after I stop the Phentermine. Then I stop that, too, until next time. I know I'm kind of addicted, but I only do it about one week out of each month. Can it harm my health if I did this forever?
AskDocWeb: The long-term effects of using Phentermine that way have not been studied. Please discuss this with your doctor.
Subj: Phentermine and surgery
i have been taking phentermine 37.5 for 1 month. my question is, im having a hysterrectomy in 7 days do i need to wait longer to have my surgery? i have been off of my phentermine for 2 days now.
AskDocWeb: Phentermine has been reported to interfere with anesthesia. Several sources said to stop taking it two weeks before surgery and one source said three weeks. The type of surgery may be a factor in determining how long you need to be off it before having surgery.
Subj: Overdosed on phentermine
My wife has taken phentermine an she overdosed n three days about 3 weeks ago she is doing well but having thought she would die hoe long will this last ...
AskDocWeb: The affects may persist until the level of the drug in the body drops to a certain point, which is different for each individual. The half-life of Phentermine ranges between 16 and 31 hours so it could take a few days to recover.
