Subj: Save your sex life
Please don't make the mistake I did... Proscar/Finasteride is no good for any man to take. I have always had problems with a enlarge prostate, but never have I had problem getting a hard-on! I started taking this medication on 03-18-2010; Like always, I never took my medication on a regular basis... However, in the beginning, I did take Proscar/Finasteride everyday for the first (2) weeks; right way, I notice pain, low sperm, and the worst thing any man would fear... I could not get a hard-on.
Today's date, 05-24-2010, I have one pill left that I will never take. Fellas, don't do what I and some men have done. Right now, you have a golden opportunity to save your sex life by not taking this medication. I don't know if my sex life will return... My God, why did I take this medication???
Me and my girlfriend found out that she is pregnant with our first child. She is 8 weeks gone. I have been using propecia for 8 months now and I'm worried that this may harm my baby reading peoples comments. Is this true or are we safe. Please come back to us...
AskDocWeb: It is important that pregnant women do NOT come into contact with the contents of this pill, which is finasteride. The pills are coated to prevent this but any broken pills could create a dust, which could be absorbed through the skin. Finasteride may cause birth defects in a male baby's sex organs if taken by pregnant women.
I am 4-5 months into taking Propecia daily. I am noticing hari regrowth but it is short, fine, and lighter than my normal hair. Will this continue, stop, or transform into normal looking hair?
AskDocWeb: Sorry Iceman, there is no way to tell how well it will turn out other than giving it a few more months to find out.
Subj: Effects on libido
I'm 27 years old and I took propecia for 4 days. I had effects on my libido in the third day. Weak erections. What really made me stop was my nipples getting puffy on the 4th day. It has been almost 2 weeks and I've been heavily exercising, and the side effects went away. I'm just gonna stick with Rogaine. I don't wanna screw with my hormones.
what is the difference btwn propecia 1mg and propecia 5mg?
AskDocWeb: Propecia is the brand name of the drug finasteride, which comes in 1mg doses. Finasteride is also sold under the brand name of Proscar, which comes in 5mg doses. Since the active ingredient in both drugs is finasteride, people sometimes refer to Proscar as Propecia. However, Propecia is not sold in 5mg doses. It may be the same drug but it is a different brand name.
Subj: Pumped up
i have been using the propecia for 1 month and so the Minoxidil and the special protein n vitamin shampoo from the hair club which include a Shampoo-Cleanser-Conditionb . Sex is good life is good feel more pumped up because i see those little hairs are growin right out and getting bigger and thicker everyday. i don't care about side effect im doing what will give me more confidence. i will keep u guys updated in 2 months.
Subj: Increased libido
i have used propecia dor 2,5 yrs no side effects. Actually noticed increased libido.
Subj: We had no idea
My husband was prescribed propecia when he was a teenager and wasn't informed by his doctor that it can cause sexual side affects. Well when we got married there was no bedroom issues, so no worries right. No reason to really research the side affects. He was still taking it when we were trying to concieve. So when I became pregnant we had no idea that it could harm our first child.. it affect males. I lost my baby. We spoke with a doctor and they said that that was most likely the cause. My husband is the last generation male in his family. The one who is suppose to carry on the name. He could've passed it down if he wasn't on that crap. I hate propecia. Make sure you always know the side affects.
Subj: Watch for abnormal signs
I am 23 and used propecia for only 3 months and saw great results, in fact I was shocked just how quickly I gained new hairs. But, there is always a "BUT", I also had breast tenderness and decreased semen. For this reason I went off it but now I am going back on it and I am going to cut the drug in half for reduced potency. Although the hair gain was only on the temple region not the hair line or temple. My recommendation to my young balding brothers out there is, use the drug but be careful and monitor your body carefully for any abnormal signs, however try to relax as well and allow the drug to its thing. Remember many bald men are successful with girls haha, Good Luck.
Subj: Mood swings and depression
I am in complete agreement about the effects of propecia on mood swings and depression. My brother has been taking propecia for over 2 years now and I have noticed a drastic change in mental health in him. He used to be outgoing and not nervous and now has become depressed, a loner, and on edge all the time. It has become unsafe to live with him. A recent episode, made me realize the dangers of propecia. So he recently lost his job and couldn't afford to buy propecia anymore. However, I decided to give propecia a try and recently started noticing that some of my pills were being stolen. So I had to get a refill and failed to pick it up for a couple of days. He ends up calling CVS finding out when I picked it up and starts ripping thru all my stuff demanding the pills. I tell him no and goes completely berzerk, he tells me he needs them or he'll faint, and a major scuffle ensues and he steals my entire bottle of propecia. After this episode, I refuse to ever take propecia and am now faced with a tough ordeal on how to get him off it and listen to me.
I agree with everyone that they should not be able to get away with this and there are actually a large amount of people suffering with this side effect. Can we not go to a lawyer, show all the people experiencing this side effect, and work with a local college to fund a study on this side effect? Once we observe this side effect, then sue the company for negligence and get it pulled and finally compensated?
AskDocWeb: That sounds like a good question to ask a lawyer.
Subj: Difficulty with erections, decreased ejaculate, and lowered sex drive
My hair loss hass been gradual but steady since the end of High School. I started taking proscar (finasteride) in September of 2008. I took it for about a year. It may have stopped my hair loss, but definitely did not help grow any new hair. My hair loss has been so gradual that I could not see any benefits from taking it any longer. While on the drug I did experience difficulty achieving and maintaining erections with significant decrease in ejaculate volume and lowered sex drive. I have been off the drug for about 8 months now and the side effects are still persisting. I am worried that they may be permanent.
Subj: The problem did not reverse
Been taking propecia for 10 years now. Although happy with hair results, I noticed a drop in libido and ejaculate. Five years ago I stopped taking it for that reason. Noticed my breasts were getting bigger. Went to my doctor and he suggested surgery for reduction. I did some online research and read that after continued use the problem may reverse. I started taking it again and have been on it ever since. The problem did not reverse. I now have a new problem. I had what I call an "accidental" erection one day and noticed I also have what I found out to be Perones disease. Boy what a mproduct propecia is. Although I have hair, I have nothing else. Is there anything that can reverse these side effects?
AskDocWeb: A urologist may have something new to offer you but we haven't seen anything yet that can reverse these side effects.
Subj: Ejaculation volume went down
O had the same issue with hair loss. doctor prescribed 5 mg tablets of propecia for 30 days which is really overdose. Even (if) u break it into 4 quarters the effect was bad. Ejaculation volume went down with, penis does not erect. Please do not use this tablet. Instead consult some one for hair transplantation. At least that would not give trouble to your body.
Subj: Acne, lower sex drive, and lump on testicles
I am 22 yrs old and have been taking propecia for a month now and have noticed quite a few sideeffects that I'm getting really worried about. I've broken out in acne on my back and on my face and have blackheads on my forehead, and also a lowered sex drive. But the problem that is worrying me the most is a lump has appeared on one of my testicles, it doesnt hurt or anything but I decided to research up on propecia and found some accounts of propecia causing testicular cacer but has never been proven. Do you think this lump has anything to do with the propecia, I mean I've only been taking it for a month but already I see lots of changes around my body.
Subj: Side effects did not go away
Propecia is a devastating drug that has destroyed my son. The side effects did not go away, as you claim on your web site, but still have extreme effect on his normal functioning ability 2 years later. Shame Shame Shame. Do not support this drug!
AskDocWeb: It is the manufacturer says that the side effects go away, not us. If you read this forum you will see that there are other men who share your son's experience. We provide a place where people can tell their story and share this information with others.
