Hey guys my dr prescribed me one pill of finasteride 1mg, by a mistake I bought the 5mg one, and I took it for 4 days. I stopped it in the moment I realized it was the 5mg one. I've lost most of my sexual desire, I have no strength in my erections since then. How long does those symptoms last? I stopped it a week ago.

AskDocWeb: Hello Alex. Who made the mistake in your purchase, your pharmacist or you? Do you live in the USA or a country where finasteride is a prescription drug?

Accutane and finasteride
Date: 6/8/2012
Hi, i have just been prescribed finasta, (legal australian 5mg finasteride) and have bought a pill cutter and taking 1/4 tablet a day for my thinning hair (getting sparse around crown mainly). how long till i will see results? and also i have been taking accutane in a very low dose 10 mg once or twice a week for a couple years to maintain clear skin will the accutane affect wheather or not the fiasteride works and what affect may the finasteride have on the accutane?

AskDocWeb: Although there are no known drug interactions between Accutane and finasteride these two share a surprising number of the same side effects. Whether or not that increases the risk of the side effects they have in common is unknown.

Not joking around
Date: 6/13/2012
PROPECIA IS POISON. I am not joking around here. The 2% bullsh*t is the dumbest sh*t I have ever heard. I have only taken the pill for the past three days and I already have the worst "brain fog" imaginable. I have insomnia. I have developed a rash all over my body. I have ED. I am exhausted. DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG! Clearly the side effects are more common and from reading people's comments they can be permanent.

Concerned about having a child
Date: 6/14/2012
I've been taking proscar cut in 1/4 for approximately 10 years. I'm 30 now, and it has maintained my hair. there has been some additional loss in the front (i have diffuse thinning), but for the most part i have been satisfied. its not a miracle drug for sure, but i believe it has helped me. i also use minox 5% (the FDA got rid of 15%) twice daily. was using 15% until FDA got involved. also use nizoral 2x weekly. Now im married and concerned about having a child since there has been a lot of attention around merck and not telling the truth. should i stop for a while when my wife and i are ready to try and have children?

AskDocWeb: We can't tell you to do that but we encourage you to do whatever you can to increase the chances of having a healthy baby.

2 miscarriages
I have been taking finastride for 2 1/2 years now. Prior to that I have had 2 healthy children with my wife. Just this year we decided to have another child. I did not stop taking finastride during this period. So far we have ended up with 2 miscarriages since trying. Nothing has changed with the 2 of us besides me now on the finastride. I believe in some males this may be linked as a side effect. Probably the same percentage that the medicine actually works.

Testocap tablets
I am 35 year old male, I took Finasteride 1mg tablet for 6 days for hair loss treatment. I stopped it when I ind it effects erection and sexual drive. It's been almost a month now after stopping Finasteride, only difference I feel is sexual urge has increased and I get erection, however, unable to maintain it long. Also, no erection in the morning. I did a testosterone test and total Testosterone count is 8.0, How long would it take to recover from the effect of this drug? How long does the body takes to produce testosterone? I consulted with a sexologist and prescribed to take testocap tablet for 20 days to improve the testosterone count. Will it do any harm? Should I wait one more month before taking the testocap tablets? Your advice would be much appreciated.

AskDocWeb: Hello Raj, welcome. We try to keep this forum focused on discussing side effects. For online medical advice there are AdDoctors online. The side effects of Testocap tablets include the following:
  • Allergic reactions (rare) may cause jaundice, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and edema.
  • Altered serum cholesterol levels, which can lead to arteriosclerosis, clotting problems, hypertension, stroke and/or congestive heart failure.
  • Excess water retention
  • Excess testosterone has also caused psychological side-effects that include dizziness, moodiness, headaches, irritability, aggression, depression and paranoia.
Bodybuilders consider Andriol Testocaps a safe, though mild, version of testosterone, and some use it illicitly to promote rapid gains in lean muscle mass and bone density.

I 21 yrs old. recently facing quite a hair loss. so i consulted a physician. he prescribed me finpecia. cipla. so quite worried about its side effect. js having it from 2 please do give your suggestion and advise...

AskDocWeb: Finpecia (made by Cipla in India) appears to have the same active ingredient as Propecia, which is finasteride. You can read about the warnings and potential side effects here. Did your doctor do a PSA test before prescribing this drug? The PSA test is a screening test for prostate cancer. Since finasteride is known to alter the results of this test it is important to establish a normal level before beginning treatment. This will help prevent getting a false positive later on, which might make it appear that you have prostate cancer when you really don't.
