Subj: Soma
Date: 2/25/2007
I found that although soma helped me to sleep it made my muscles ache more in the morning. I suffer from fibromyalgia and anxiety and was unaware that it was the soma that was causing the severe muscle pains in my calves until I was out of it for several days.

Subj: Soma and fibromyalgia
Date: 2/26/2007
I also was taking soma for lower back problems. I also have fibromyalgia. Can soma cause more achiness as my calves were hurting me every day and when I stopped taking the soma the pain in my calves stopped. I also suffer from migraines and I also had problems with ringing in my ears. This pill had a lot of side effects with me I guess from my fibro so beware fibro sufferers.

AskDocWeb: Muscle pain is not a listed side effect.

Subj: Soma prescribed for 17 year old
Date: 3/5/2007
Well I was just prescribed it and I am about to take it for the first time. Do you think it is safe for me to take it given that I am 17 years old 135 pounds + or - some...and I am not allergic to anything that lists!

AskDocWeb: Yes since your doctor thinks it is safe. Soma is not recommended for those under 12 years of age.

Subj: Acetaminophen
Date: 3/6/2007
Does Soma have Acetaminophen in it as one of the ingredients? If so, how much in a 350 mg tablet?

AskDocWeb: Soma has no Acetaminophen in it. Besides carisoprodol, the other ingredients in Soma are alginic acid, magnesium stearate, potassium sorbate, starch, and tribasic calcium phosphate.

Subj: Too little
Date: 3/16/2007
Well I have been taking this pill for about 2 to 3 weeks now and I have taken as much as 4 pills of 350mg and it seems to do very little for me.

Subj: Failed a sobriety test
Date: 4/4/2007
I have had 4 lower back operations and I have a cage at the back of my neck, I also have enough metal in my hips, neck and right shoulder to build a Buick. I have tremendous muscle spasms from all this surgery that has never gone away. Just recently I slipped on ice and the back of my head hit first causing a sever concussion. I started having "grey outs" where everything got very dim and over all functioning. Fortunately I can tell at the onset of these episodes which are starting to dissipate. I had a MRI and what little brain I have was okay (no permanent damage). I was driving on a highway and started to have an episode. I pulled over right away and was waiting for it to pass, usually 20 minutes or so. I had taken some soma and some pain pills about 10 minutes before this happened. A state trooper pulled over and gave me a sobriety test, which of course I failed. I was arrested for the first time in my life and took to the hospital and given a blood test, even though I passed the breath test. I don't drink at all. My question is how fast does the medication I am taking enter my blood stream. I explained to the trooper I had a recent concussion and my doctor wrote a letter saying that I have been on this medication for years and about the concussion. I had some of my prescription in labeled bottles with me, yet I am still stressed about the situation. Thank you,
P.S. Sorry about my spelling

AskDocWeb: It can get into your bloodstream almost right away. Don't take these pain pills and drive until you know what affect they have on you, it could be dangerous.

Subj: Give me a break
Date: 4/9/2007
I have taken several narcotic and non-narcotic medicines over a ten-year period due to an auto accident and degenerative discs. There have been times in my life when I took more of my medication than I should have, but not too excessive. The crap that I do not like to read is this; everyone who has had a bad experience or has come close to overdosing immediately blames it on the doctor who wrote the script or the mean old pharmaceutical companies who produce it. Give me a break, the directions are on the bottle and if you look deep down inside yourself you know that you made a conscious decision to abuse the drug! Where is the personal responsibility? Your doctor is trying to help you. It makes me sick when I here this childish whining about the drug companies or the doctors so called "pushing" drugs. Does Coca Cola make you drink their products, does McDonalds shove a Big Mac down your throat. The end result is that the doctors are so paranoid about going to jail because of these lawsuit crybabies that the people who really need the drug sometimes do not get them. Grow up you spineless jellyfish and get a life!

Subj: Withdrawal from Soma
Date: 4/9/2007
Please help me by responding quickly. I am in the beginning stages of withdrawal from a normal amount of soma, only 2 to 3 per day. I am noticing my heart muscle hurting at the time I am at work, trying to get thru this withdrawal. What I want to know is will slowly reducing my intake over a 30 day period and then getting off, will it kill me from increased muscle contractions of the heart. The heart is a muscle and it reacts like other muscles and gets tight. I am taking tenormin blood pressure/pulse control medicine. This seems to help. Someone please tell me I will survive this withdrawal. I am back at the beginning of recovery, going back to more meetings. I am 49 and I smoke. No previous heart problems. Just got on the tenormin to go through withdrawals. Please reply...

AskDocWeb: To make sure you haven't had some type of heart damage, please consider having an EKG done at your physicians office.

Subj: Kidney problem
Date: 4/24/2007
Are there any papers, etc. on the relationship with SOMA and someone with 60% functioning capacity of the kidneys? My brother is taking these and I want to make sure this will not affect his major problem; among others as well. Thanks.

AskDocWeb: Since Soma is excreted by the kidneys you need to consult with a urologist to determine what affect it will have on your brother.

Subj: Maximum daily dosage?
Date: 4/26/2007
I've been taking SOMA for many years, couldn't even tell you how many.. I'm wondering how many you can take a day, and not worry about over dozing? Cause I can take up to 10 a day, and it does nothing for me? Scares me, but for medical reasons, I need to use them... Please help?

AskDocWeb: Please don't take any more than is directed by your doctor. If that isn't enough then talk to your doctor about what alternatives might work better for you.

Subj: Levator Ani Syndrome
Date: 4/28/2007
I have levator ani syndrome, which is a horrible muscle spasm in the rectum. I wake up in the middle of the night with agonizing pain. I also have endometriosis and have had many surgeries leaving me with terrible scar tissue and thus - the Levator Ani Syndrome. I am seeing a pain doctor and have had many, many "procedures" all of which are non the less embarrassing. But I too - have been prescribed soma and norco. I also take zoloft and xanax and prometrium and estrodial. I don't have any problems with the other medications except soma. It does the same thing to me as others have stated here.

When I take soma, I can't see well, I become in a zombie-like state, I can't walk, I fall at times, I can't talk, sometimes I black out, I sleep a lot, I can't drive well, I have lost most of my ambition (and I used to be a have a lot of ambition!), I twitch and have seizure type of reactions, and so on. Another thing is that I have lost my appetite, and therefore have lost a lot of weight. In about 6 months - I lost about 40 pounds. I went from a size 16 to a size 2 or 4. I am not sure if that is due to the Soma or other grief that I have had in my life (deaths in the family). But here's the thing...the soma helps with my pain. I have tried so many things but this medication is the only one that seems to work. It is hell living in pain all the time. Right now I am in pain. It feels like a knife is sticking in me and someone is twisting it - yeah "there"! The pain is deep within my pelvis and rectum. All the procedures that I have had done have done nothing for my pain. My pain is off the charts. They ask me the pain scale of 1 - 10 as to where my pain is and I tell them it doesn't even register with those kinds of dimensions.

I don't know what to do. I worry about incontinence. Actually after all the manipulation I have noticed gas passing and I can't hold it AND it happens in embarrassing places. I really can't remember NOT being in pain. As a teenager I has horrible cramps, as a young adult, I had so many surgeries and pain from endometriosis, and in my 30's I had a great deal of pain and surgeries, and now being middle aged - I have this. I am almost 50 years old. I would like to get my life back but it is so difficult with all this pain.

I know it is really hard on my loved ones and I am afraid that I am going to lose them and more afraid that they are going to lose me. I know they love me and need me. Sometimes it is really hard to explain the pain to other people. I am not trying to abuse the medication just trying to get the pain bearable. I have tried many muscle relaxers - flexiril, baclofen - to name a few. This chronic pain really stinks. You get stuck trying to do the right thing and make it so your life is bearable - so you can be a productive human being - but it seems to all come crumbling down upon you. I am not trying to receive pity - just telling you how hard it is to live like this.

I have made mistakes - big mistakes, and feel they are unforgivable. I just want to get my life back to normal. I feel life is a gift too and I feel like I am not living it, but it is just wasting away. I feel that I have a lot to offer the world - but it is all balled up in a world of pain and agony. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn't have even been born. I am not suicidal - I am much too afraid to do something like that - but it seems that life is just passing me by, and I am not contributing to my family. I have a lot of trouble regarding the purpose of life anyway - and why we are sitting on a little ball floating in the middle of nowhere - so I suppose that a person needs to have faith in something. It is just too weird that all of a sudden a person - you - when you die just cease to exist and on the other hand - if you live forever - that is a really long time. Anyway - I am trying to get off this stuff but I don't know what I am going to do about the pain. Maybe just endure it. I am enduring it right now so maybe that is the thing to do.
