Soma FeedbackIf you've used Soma, please help others by adding your feedback. What would you tell someone considering using this product? Please remember that we do not give medical advice. That is for your local health care provider, who is familiar with your medical history.Subj: Baclofen Date: 8/10/2006 How long does baclofen 10mg tablets stay in your blood stream? Suzy AskDocWeb: The duration of this drug is unknown. Abrupt withdrawal from this drug after long term use may cause seizures, hallucinations or rebound spasticity. Subj: Date: 8/13/2006 Does Soma have any effect on you blood sugar levels? Patricia AskDocWeb: There is nothing listed about Soma affecting blood sugar levels. Talk to your doctor before using OTC cold or hay fever remedies with Soma. Subj: Overdosed Date: 8/23/2006 Very helpful...very addicting...o.d.ed and almost died. Cheryl Subj: No side effects Date: 8/26/2006 Helped rid my headaches with no side effects. Mae Subj: 54 year old male Date: 8/28/2006 4 years ago I was in a motorcycle accident. I'm too old for that, hindsight is 20/20. They stopped counting at 13 badly broken ribs, in many places my ribs are not lined up, they are in front and under my arms. Punched a hole 12mm x 12mm in my scapula (pulverized), a fractured pelvis, concussion, collapsed lung and a mangled collar bone that is a non union. It just slides around and feels like it pinching. I have been taking 1 Soma at bedtime and a half around noon for over a year. I don't know if I would have withdrawals at that rate. I can take 3 a day, but don't. I also take a 10mg Diazapam at bedtime and 2 Vicodin a day, morning and around 3:00, never after 7 because the Vicodin keeps me awake. The Soma actually relieves the pain better than the vicodin but I don't function as well on the Soma, too tired, but it wears off fast with no hang over. I can't sleep on either side and I can't sleep on my back because of pain. Have to sleep on my stomach. The combination diazapam/soma knocks me out and I don't move much for 6 hours. I have to stay face down which means you have to turn your head. It relieves the pinching from the collarbone as well as the pain from all the other bones I broke and nerve damage from ruptured disks. I also have restless legs. Soma don't seem to help the restless legs, the Vicodin relieves that during the day. Before I started taking Soma I could only sleep a couple hours at a time. For me it has been a blessing. I think it might be starting to bother my stomach. It seems caustic if it gets hung up in your throat. I hope I can take it for the rest of my life at this dosage, unless my pain gets better. I don't notice any side effects. Ken Subj: Soma with arrhythmia? Date: 8/28/2006 The Dr gave me a Rx of soma I have been having a heart arrhythmia due to muscle problems cmp and fibro. I also have anemia, anyway my question is, if this is a muscle relaxer is it ok to take with arrhythmia? Charlene AskDocWeb: That is a question that your doctor should answer. We're here to report on side effects. Subj: Soma withdrawal Date: 9/8/2006 I have been taking soma off and on for years. I am also on 82mgs of Methadone. I have been feeling like I have been going through opiate withdrawal the past week and also have not had any soma for about the same amount off time. Could there be a connection or is it possible I need my Methadone upped? Thanx! Heather AskDocWeb: Yes, there could be a connection. Several people have reported going through that kind of withdrawal. The worst of it passes within a week. Subj: Soma Date: 9/17/2006 Can taking Soma and methadone ( from a medically supervised clinic) cause excessive sweating or other side effects? Jeanne AskDocWeb: Yes. Subj: Scared Date: 9/18/2006 I took my first generic Soma tonight...then started reading this site. I am scared! I was taking Zanaflex. That didn't last long for relief. Doc gave this to me to take one at night for low back pain and sciatica. Said it would help me sleep, too. I hope so. But I want to wake up in the morning! I wonder about the side effects. I am allergic to aspirin and sulphur meds and sensitive to ibuprofen and the like. Wish me luck! Maria AskDocWeb: Good luck Maria. Subj: Soma coma Date: 9/22/2006 My mom is addicted to somas and goes into a type of coma for hours. They caused her to get in a car accident, thrown in jail, and may have caused her son heart problems that he died of, but she just wont get off them. I know that they should be out lawed and NO ONE should take them. Please do what you can to put an end to this HORRIBLE drug. Concerniend kid Subj: Soma addictive? Date: 9/26/2006 Are soma physically addictive? Scott AskDocWeb: In one study, abrupt cessation of 100 mg/kg/day (that's about five times the recommended daily dosage for an adult) some subjects experienced mild withdrawal symptoms such as abdominal cramps, headache, chilliness, insomnia, and nausea but delirium and convulsions did not occur. There is a warning that this drug should be used with caution in addiction-prone individuals. Subj: Poor circulation? Date: 9/27/2006 Can a side effect of long term use of soma cause poor circulation? Catharine AskDocWeb: Poor circulation is not one of the listed side affects. Subj: Soma and heart muscles Date: 10/2/2006 I have been taking soma for almost 2 years now for migraines, it is the only thing that works for me. I have noticed my muscles feel like Jell-O, is this from the soma and my chest feels like it swells sometime! Can soma also affect the heart muscles. I usually only take one at night and occasionally during the day time 2 at the most.... Becca AskDocWeb: Soma produces muscle relaxation so yes, it can make your muscles feel like Jell-O. When Soma affects the heart as in your case, it is considered an adverse reaction so you need to talk with your doctor about this. Subj: Spinal stenosis Date: 10/10/2006 I am holding fluid with Soma, I take Darvocet and also Xanax. What is your opinion? I have spinal stenosis. Diana AskDocWeb: We know that Spinal stenosis is painful. With your doctor's approval, stick with the Darvocet N-l00. Subj: Soma withdrawals are very bad Date: 10/13/2006 My daughter is trying to get off somas but she can't seem too. She takes sometimes 10 a day or more. She almost died but she still takes them. She says the withdrawals are very bad. She throws up for days, can't remember how many she takes. Can someone tell us what to do? Don't have the money for in treatment. She takes lorcets too and they don't help you get off somas. I'm afraid she's going to die. She has 3 protruding disk from 12 years but soon she will be on the streets. How can she stop taking them? She is down too 99 lbs and is going to loose everything. Can someone help? Thank you, pray for her. Ruth AskDocWeb: To get help, you will have to reach out to people. Some possible people and places to call are the Red Cross, community help line, crisis line, community counseling, your minister, and relatives. Subj: Rescheduled surgery Date: 10/24/2006 I have been taking soma on and off for some time. I am now scheduled for surgery. My surgery had to be rescheduled due to elevated liver enzymes. Can soma cause this? SAndra AskDocWeb: It's possible because Soma is metabolized in the liver. Subj: Soma Date: 10/26/2006 Is it o.k. to take Soma with Birth Control, Adderall, and Celexa? Ang AskDocWeb: In most cases, yes but talk to your doctor to be sure it's safe in your particular situation. Subj: Vomiting blood Date: 10/31/2006 I've been vomiting up blood, urinating it, and it's almost the only thing coming out when going to the bathroom. I don't know what to do. Alicia AskDocWeb: Go to an emergency room as soon as possible. Subj: Long-term effects Date: 11/9/2006 I'm 24 & have been on soma for 5 years. My doc says to take 3 a day for muscle spasms, but I'm concerned about the long term effects. I already feel I have to have them. I feel sick when I don't take them. My whole body goes numb and I get very bad tremors when I take them, even when I don't take them my hands constantly shake. Can someone please give me advise? Catherine AskDocWeb: You already seem to be suffering some long term affects. It sounds like you need to seek professional help with a pain management specialist. Subj: Double vision? Date: 11/16/2006 Have you ever heard of double vision as a "side effect'? Please e-mail me with any information or comments. Michael AskDocWeb: You can take double vision as a warning sign that you need to contact your doctor. It is serious enough that some people have required hospitalization. Subj: Soma induced tinnitus? Date: 11/17/2006 I have been taking Soma for the past 5 years as needed for my less severe migraines. At most, I have taken 4 to 5 pills in a week. During this past year, I have developed constant ringing in both of my ears. Can the use of Soma contribute to development of tinnitus? Susan AskDocWeb: It's not listed as a side affect, but that is not to say it couldn't happen to you. Have your physician check your ears. Subj: Xanax and Klonipin Date: 11/17/2006 How best to taper off Xanax. I take 2.5 per day. I quit for 3 days with out taking any. I still have symptoms. How long will this last? Klonipin: I take 2.5 per day and sometimes a 1/4 of that. How best to taper off completely and how long will this take. Cliff AskDocWeb: Your doctor prescribed these meds for a reason, we can only suggest that you speak to your physician to find out if you should discontinue them and how best to do that.
