Subj: Lost 25 pounds
Date: 7/30/2010
I have been taking Tenuate 25 mg. for 4 months. I have lost 25 pounds during that time. So far I haven't had any side effects. There are also days that I don't take any that day (like 4th of July) and I haven't been tired.

Subj: Tenuate is working
Date: 8/19/2010
I've been on tenuate 75mg for two weeks and lost 14 pounds started at 319 and now 305 working good for me.

Subj: Lost 110 lbs.
Date: 8/23/2010
I used Tenuate for about 18 months under a doctor's supervision and was able to lose 110lbs. The doctor told me that I would probably need to use it intermittently the rest of my life to maintain the weight lose. I eventually moved from the state where I was living and to a state where the doctors will not prescribe Tenuate for me (ironically also one of the "fattest" states in the country). I had no ill effects from using Tenuate and wish I would use it now.

Subj: Tenuate Retard
Date: 9/19/2010

AskDocWeb: If you live somewhere in Europe then you may find it at your local drugstore.

Subj: Tenuate with Xanax XR?
Date: 9/27/2010
I used to take Tenuate along with the B-12 shot over a year ago with great success. About a year ago, I started having really bad anxiety/panic attacks. The ER doc advised me not to take the Tenuate anymore. I am now on Xanax XR once a day for my anxiety and have gained about 20 lbs back and am very down about this. Is it ok to take Tenuate with Xanax XR, it helped control my appetite so well before and would love to be able to take it again. I do have heart palpitations every now and then. Thanks in advance!

AskDocWeb: There are no major drug interactions listed between Tenuate with Xanax XR but there is a caution listed for Xanax XR (alprazolam). The use of grapefruit juice may increase the affect of Xanax so talk to your doctor if grapefruit is part of your diet.

Subj: Tenuate retard or Regenon?
Date: 9/30/2010
does tenuate retard really work which is more effective tenuate retard or regenon 60mg?

AskDocWeb: Tenuate Retard, Tenuate Dospan, and Regenon are all brand names for the same drug.

Subj: Marical Med
Date: 10/1/2010
I was on Tenuate years ago, in my college days. I remember having no appetite what so ever, having to remind myself to eat at times. I also remember craving alot of water, I just couldn't get enough. My energy level was at my highest point ever. I loved the way that I felt. My doctor was also giving me B-12 shots along with the medication. Recently, 3 kids later, I found myself wanting to get back on the "Marical Med". I will start back on Monday and I am so very anxious for the change in lifestyle, I cant wait to experience the wonderful feeling that Tenuate gave me! I would recommend this to everyone that has ever has a problem w/losing extra weight.

Subj: Headache and hives
Date: 10/7/2010
I started taking 25 mg Tenuate 1 week ago. Approx. 1/2 hour to 1 hour after taking I developed a painful frontal headache. 4 days later I developed hives on my forearms and face. I have discontinued this medication because of its adverse affects.

Subj: Genetic defects?
Date: 11/12/2010
I have been taking Tenuate Retard 75 mgs for about 6 weeks. I have already lost half a stone and I am very happy with this medication. I haven't got any side-effects. My question is that, is it ok to take this medication for another few months maximum but at the same time keep trying for a baby? Could this medication cause any genetic defects forming in the eggs? Thanks!

AskDocWeb: The FDA put Tenuate in pregnancy category B, which means that it is not expected to cause harm to an unborn baby. However, the instructions say not to take Tenuate without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. Since Tenuate is chemically related to amphetamines, if taken by pregnant women, it may cause withdrawal symptoms in a newborn baby.

Subj: Female hormones?
Date: 11/18/2010
Can a person who had breast cancer take this product? Does it contain any female hormones?

AskDocWeb: A history of breast cancer, or any kind of cancer, is not listed among the contraindications for using Tenuate. The active ingredient in Tenuate is diethylpropion hydrochloride and it contains no female hormones.

Subj: Working nights
Date: 11/20/2010
I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for someone taking Tenuate who works nights. I am up by 530pm at the latest. I get off work by 730am. My mid-morning is different from everyone else's. I started taking Tenuate Nov.1 and am still trying to work out a schedule to maximize the effect. There are times when I take it when I first wake up on an empty stomach and there are times I take it around 6pm after I have had a quick snack. I haven't been able to tell a difference between the two. Tonight, I ate a snack when I first woke up, and then took my Tenuate at 10pm. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

AskDocWeb: We try to keep the focus of this forum on side effects. Your doctor will be able to tell you the best times to take your medicine.

Subj: Is Tenuate effective for me?
Date: 12/16/2010
Hello, I'm 12 pound overweight and am using this pill, is effective for me?? 6-day pill that i use, this time in the day two hours of 10 am and 5 pm

AskDocWeb: Only your doctor can say if Tenuate would be effective for you or not. Typically this drug is prescribed along with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy for short-term management of obesity. Is you BMI 30 or higher?

Subj: Breastfeeding?
Date: 12/20/2010
I see that tenuate is pregnancy category "B" and is safe to take while breast feeding. Does anyone know the effects or if it is safe to take while breast feeding a baby twice a day?

AskDocWeb: There is a product warning that says, "Do not take Tenuate without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby." Tenuate is excreted in breast milk so check with your doctor to discuss the risks to your baby.

Date: 1/7/2011
I have lost 16 pounds in 2 momths on Tenuate Retard and plan on using it for another two months. It is really effective as an anorectic, and does not produce too much stimulation. By the way, make sure you get TENUATE not TENNUATE. The second one is a rip-off.

Subj: Tenuate dospan
Date: 2/14/2011
Hi there, I used to take tenuate dospan and had great success with it. Where can i buy it? my doctor said it hasnt been in the uk for many years. Please somebody help. many thanks.

AskDocWeb: If Tenuate dospan is not available locally then it may be illegal to import it from another country. To be safe, check with your local pharmacy and customs agent.

Subj: Intense exercise workouts
Date: 2/23/2011
I have recently started a very intense daily workout schedule and am having great results in losing inches but not weight. I have about 80 lbs. to lose and my doctor has suggested tenuate. My only concern is that I read that the drug increases your heart rate and I am wondering if it is ok to be on the medication and also work out to a very intense/vigorous boot camp style workout (one that is also raising your heart rate).

AskDocWeb: Because there are so many different exercise programs, only your doctor can give you a definitive answer. Your current physical condition and medical history will dictate what kind of exercise program is most appropriate for you.

Now about losing inches instead of pounds, many people find that to be the case when doing intense exercises. While your body is losing weight it is also building muscle, and muscle has a higher density than fat. Because muscle weighs more than fat and takes up less space, it is possible to lose inches and still gain weight. However, that is a good thing, it's healthy.

Subj: Tenuate was brilliant
Date: 3/16/2011
I used Tenuate about 6 yrs ago and found it brilliant, I am now having trouble getting it on the internet, I am in the UK any ideas?

AskDocWeb: Sorry Sue, we do NOT recommend buying drugs on the Internet. If you can't get it through your local pharmacy then it may be illegal in your area.

Subj: Dry mouth
Date: 3/18/2011
I have been using Tenuate for 5 days and I have lost 7lb I've just got a dry mouth. I am hoping to loose another 14lb I hope it works for me.

AskDocWeb: Good luck G. S. remember that dry mouth is a symptom of dehydration. Not drinking enough water daily can cause headaches and constipation, both of which are common when dieting.

Subj: Effective after 4 months?
Date: 3/19/2011
I used tenuate 6 years ago and it worked. I tried 4 month ago for near 2 months it was O.K, when I felt it did not effective i stop it. It has passed four months after the last time i used it. I have 90 pills, do you think that it is effective after 4 months.

AskDocWeb: It is likely to be somewhat effective but we would not expect it to be AS effective as it was originally. There are too many variables to be more specific.
