Vertigo associated with Meniere's Disease
I have been taking valacyclovir for the severe vertigo associated with Meniere's Disease for 4 years. The very week I started 500 mg of valacyclovir once per day, my attacks stopped. So far so good.
Hi, I've been taking Valtrex for over a year for genital herpes, and as soon as I got my diagnosis I stopped taking birth control because I stopped having intercourse. I recently started taking birth control in the form of oral contraceptive because both my partner and I have HSV-2 and we don't use a condom (avoiding intercourse during flare ups). I've noticed a burning or discomfort inside my vagina, as well as a foul odor. I was diagnosed with a bacteria infection and was prescribed an antibiotic for it and it went away. Not even 2 weeks later the discomfort and foul odor are back. Could this have anything to do with the combination of taking birth control with Valtrex?
AskDocWeb: No. It's more likely you are getting re-infected from your partner or something used in the bedroom. Cleaning up a bacterial infection often requires extra attention to sanitary practices and personal hygiene by both partners.
Anyone tried vitamin C?
After 6 years if he'll from 23 breakouts and severe pain I got the vaccine. It has been 5 weeks. broke out within 3 days. Now 3 weeks later I have a more severe break out over the left upper back part of shoulder a new area but on the same side I forgot my vatrex. It's over xmas and can't get any. I did have the cream. So for me the vaccine as made it worse. I believe the depression people get is from the pain and change in life style. It is debilatating I have had every tx known and nothing works. I have not taken Valtrex every day but only when I know I am breaking out. There are many times I have the severe pain but not the blisters.. I have heard very high doses vit c might help. Has anyone tried it?
AskDocWeb: You might want to check out the work of Dr. Frederick R. Klenner. In his paper, "Clinical Guide to the Use of Vitamin C," he notes his success with Vitamin C and herpes simplex virus.
Dr. Klenner's work was the inspiration for Dr. Linus Pauling, Ph. D. to pursue more in depth study of Vitamin C therapy. Dr. Pauling's work with mega doses of Vitamin C led to a Nobel prize.

Serious side effects
I took valtrex only once and I've stopped taking already a week but I'm experience some serious side effects like short breathe and confusion, anxiety during the night. Could you tell when these side effects will disappear?
AskDocWeb: Since we don't know the cause of those symptoms we wouldn't even guess. Serious side effects need to be discussed with your doctor. They may or may not be caused by your medication.

I had a sore throat and saw my doctor and he gave me an anti-biotic. The following week, I found that I had shingles and was given Valtrex. My sore throat is back, is there anything that I can take while I am on Valtrex to stop the sore throat?
AskDocWeb: Sorry Michele, this forum is for discussing the side effects and effectiveness of Valtrex. For medical advice consult your local physician or an online doctor.
I have been taking Valtrex for shingles for 10 months. The worst side effect for me has been joint pain - expecially hips and knees. Walking has become difficult and very painful. My question is: are my joints being damaged?
AskDocWeb: Joint pain is listed as one of the less serious side effects that may occur in those taking Valtrex. The only mention of damage in the product data referred to the kidneys and liver, which may occur with long-term use. Remember to tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect. You can also report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Taking Valtrex when there is no herpes
I thought I was having a herpes outbreak but it was my vaginal atropthy. I've been taking the Valtrex for 5 days now and the atropthy is worse then it's ever been. Could this be caused by the Valtrex? Can taking Valtrex when there really is not a herpes issue cause a cause other problems?
AskDocWeb: Yes, as with any prescription drug, side effects are possible. See .
Vaginal atrophy (Atrophic vaginitis or urogenital atrophy) is an inflammation of the vagina (and the outer urinary tract) due to the thinning and shrinking of the tissues, as well as decreased lubrication. These symptoms are due to a lack of the reproductive hormone estrogen, not Valtrex.
I am 60+ years of age and have been taking Valtrex 1000 mg for just about a year. It has been quite effective and not caused me any side effects. I am fit, eat well and exercise regularly. My skin is quite youthful, however, I have recently noticed [on my chin] wrinkles that have never been there before. Is it possible that the drug is causing my skin to lose it's elasticity?
AskDocWeb: There are several possible side effects related to skin: In rare cases there may be some yellowing of the skin.
