Subj: Question about xenical
I started taking xenical last week. I have no side affects yet. But I haven't lost any weight either. Can you tell me if it will speed up weight loss. Thank you,
AskDocWeb: If you combine Xenical with a good exercise program and a healthy diet, it should speed up your weight loss.
Subj: Lost 62 pounds
I am taking xenical since 2001 and I lost 62 pounds or 28 kilos. I am from Peru my weight is 62 kilos or 137 pounds. I want to lose 14 (more) pounds for my ideal weight.
What if according with my BMI I'm not obese enough to try? Would it still help me to loose weight?
AskDocWeb: If you use Xenical when your BMI is not high enough to qualify, you are more likely to experience unpleasant side effects and other complications.
Subj: Embarrassing side effects
I've been starting and stopping Xenical for a couple of months now. Reason? Every time I take it I get these embarrassing side effects...the immediate need to move my bowels, staining of my underpants, abdominal cramps, etc. I try to stop eating fatty foods, but my office always has these wonderful cookies, cakes, or pastries that makes it difficult to by-pass. I actually crave sweets! Is xenical not for me?
AskDocWeb: You know that those cookies, cakes and pastries stay with you long after you finish eating them. Using Xenical is a waste of money unless you learn to control your cravings and change your diet. I believe those who have the most success with Xenical use those embarrassing side effects as motivation to avoid the fatteners. When you see cookies, remember the consequences. When you see cake, remember the consequences. Ditto the pastries.
Subj: Feeling weird
I've been taking xenical for about two months. I have frequently headaches. I live with disposal pads every single day because of the BM side effects. Tonight I'm feeling weird. I feel anxious, heart palpitations, chest pain, moodiness, eye dryness and fatigue. I only lost five pounds. If any person feel the same, please contact me!
AskDocWeb: You should not be experiencing the above side affects with any drug. It sounds like this has become dangerous to your health. Debbie, please go to your doctor and have him give you a complete physical and discuss your weight loss options with him. Xenical may not be the best choice for you.
Subj: Xenical and gallbladder problems?
I took Xenical for six months back in the year 2000.It was working as an effective weight loss tool. Then I started experiencing nausea and pain in my midsection. I was diagnosed with a bad gallbladder. My gallbladder was fine when I started this medication and this was reported in a pre physical. I had surgery to remove this bad gallbladder shortly afterward. I am convinced that Xenical played a major part in the destruction of my gallbladder. It was fine before using Xenical. Within six months after taking Xenical my gallbladder was destroyed. Naturally I quit using Xenical. I ask the manufacturers of Xenical about potential gallbladder problems related to Xenical. They told me that their product is safe and that gallbladder destruction is not a side effect of Xenical. I do not believe this claim. The product works for weight loss. However if you want your gallbladder to stay healthy then beware.
AskDocWeb: When two things happen at the same time we tend to think they are related. That is not proof that one caused the other. On the other hand, if anyone else has experience like this, please let us know.
Subj: Testing xenical
hello, I'm testing xenical since 3 days and although I ate the first day large amounts of fat - burger, fries, ice cream- in combination with xenical, I didn't have any side effects (my bmi is 26), does it mean, that xenical does not work in my case?
AskDocWeb: No, but then 3 days is not enough time to tell. Taking xenical and then eating large amounts of fat can cause some very unpleasant problems.
Subj: Severe swelling with Xenical
Hi, I tried Xenical for a little more than a month and while I lost 6 pounds I also experienced severe swelling especially around my face and in my hands. So one of my coworkers asked if I gained weight. It was not until I was off it for two days and lost the water weight could I see the effect it had. Is this normal?
AskDocWeb: No, severe swelling is not normal. It is usually a sign of an allergic reaction so talk to your doctor about this as soon as possible.
Subj: 6 months of Xenical
I used xenical for 6 month I didn't loose weight but my clothes size reduced and my hunch is reduced...no side effects happened to me...but recently they found a major side effects can anybody tell me what? Buy the way I don't eat fatty food...thanks
Subj: Trouble buying xenical
Will you get in trouble if you buy xenical online because I understand that it has to be prescribed by a doctor?
AskDocWeb: No, you won't get into trouble if you live in the USA and buy Xenical from a pharmacy also located in the USA. But, you might want to call your state attorney general to see if it is legal to be shipped to your state. Several states are fighting to get competition banded from shipping drugs into their state forcing you to buy locally. Missouri, Nevada and others have already passed such laws.
Subj: Pain under left breast
I have been using xenical for about 5 months and it has been great. No side effects, not extreme waitloss but a 4-5 a month which is great. All of sudden I have pain under my left breast. Like I pulled a muscle or bruised my rib cage. It's a dull pain like you get when you over do weightlifting. I have waited a week or so thinking that I picked up something too heavy. But its not getting any better. I have had a breast exam and it is not that. It's definitely in a muscle or rib. Is this a side effect you have heard about from Xenical?
AskDocWeb: No, we haven't heard of anything like that associated with Xenical. It sounds like costochondritis. Suggest you visit your doctor.
Subj: Blood in stool
When I first started xenical a year ago I did not have a problem. I started taking xenical again two weeks ago. I have seen some blood in my stool. What can be the problem?
AskDocWeb: This problem should be addressed by your doctor.
Subj: Trouble swallowing Xenical
Well, I've used Xenical at the past and I'll probably start it again as I've gained weight recently. However, unfortunately, I have trouble swallowing the capsules, so what I do, is open them and swallow the powder with water (luckily it doesn't taste bad!). Can this reduce its effectiveness?
AskDocWeb: Here is something you can try that may make things easier for you. When taking a capsule, put the capsule in your mouth, add water, close your mouth, look at your shoes and while your head is tilted forward, swallow. The capsules float so they will enter your throat first, followed by the water. When you take a pill, look at the ceiling as you swallow. The pill sinks to the back of your throat and you get the same flushing action, pill first, then the water. Pass this tip on to anyone having trouble with their meds.
Subj: Bad side effects
Is it a side effect of xenical to have bad stomach cramps. My son who is 16 and been taking just 2 a day for a month has had (bad pains like diorreah type)to accompany the stools which are very loose, a couple of times a day at the moment but is HEAVILY OBESE AND REALLY DOSENT WANT TO STOP TAKING. He lost 10lbs in the first month, so is very keen to continue with them even with the bad side effects!
AskDocWeb: Yes, what you describe sounds like what happens when someone takes Xenical and the fat intake is not reduced. The amount of fat in the diet must be reduced to avoid this unpleasantness.
Subj: Dye in Xenical
I have only been using these for a little over a week, so, no difference yet, BUT, I have noticed that the veins in my arms, hands, legs and chest seem more prominent and very blue. Could this be caused by the dye? I'm debating on whether or not to be concerned.
AskDocWeb: You should be concerned enough to get a physical exam to find out what is happening. I assure you, it is not the dye.
Subj: Xenical is great
I've using xenical for 1 week an lose 20 pounds this been great.
Subj: Lost weight but depressed
I have been xenical since June 2004 and have lost 2stone and 8 lbs. (32lbs) a few personal friends and family are unaware that I am on this drug but have noticed that there has been a change in my personality also I think I'm depressed, I love the fact I have lost weight but feel awful within myself.
Subj: Xenical and gallbladder problems
Hi, I got a prescription of Xenical filled a couple of months ago but never took them. I decided to start taking them today. I read (after taking one) that people with gallbladder problems shouldn't take them. Since getting the prescription filled, I have had my gallbladder removed. Is this going to cause problems if I take the Xenical (p.s. I have already taken one this morning.)
AskDocWeb You need to let your doctor know about this so he can advise you based on your medical history and current condition. You may or may not be able to take this medication.
Subj: Has anyone died?
I have been overweight all my life and I want to start taking xenical but I want to know has anyone died from taking it.
AskDocWeb You need to consult with your doctor about your health history before taking Xenical. We have not heard of anyone dying from appropriate use but there are risks.
