Subj: Itching and smelling
I have this vaginal itching and fishy smell. When I get my period, it stops itching and smelling. When my period stops, the itching and smelling come back. What should I do?
AskDocWeb: You need a pelvic exam to determine what it is. It may be a yeast infection but it could also be a STD.
Subj: Really bad itch
I have to worst pain in my vagina area, the Dr told me that I had a yeast infection. I took a Diflucan, took the 2nd one and a 3 day monistat 3 days later when the symptoms where still there mildly. Most of the itching is gone, but I still itch really badly around the clitoris area, any ideas?
AskDocWeb: If the itch is still there then so is the problem. Reviewing the causes of yeast infection may be helpful but you should return to your doctor for further treatment.
Subj: Yeast infection
I've been taking Phentermine for 2 weeks. I have lost a solid 12 pounds and notice a difference in the way my favorite pair of jeans a loosening around the waist and thigh area (great job). I took TrimLife two years ago and was very satisfied with its results (lost 20 pounds). This time my doc prescribed Phentermine. I just recently started experiencing minor headaches. I've been reading alot so I'm monitoring well. My new "symptom" is I have a yeast infection. I saw earlier that this was not known to be caused by Phentermine so, Ladies, if any of you have also experienced this please let it be known. I'll call my doc tomorrow. May even try the yogurt or hydrogen peroxide home remedy. Is that ok?
AskDocWeb: You can get Monostat cream at your local drugstore (about $15.00), no prescription needed.
Subj: Yeast infection and period
I have a yeast infection and I am taking amoxicillin for a sinus infection and I am on birth control so I have a fairly consistent period. I am supposed to get my period in one day. I have heard rumors that your period can wipe out a yeast infection. I have also heard rumors that if you are in the process of using a cream to eliminate a yeast infection and you use a tampon the cream will not work. Should I wait until after my period to start treatment?
AskDocWeb: No, your mensis cannot wipe out a yeast infection. Waiting until your period ends to use the cream is a good idea.
Subj: Yeast infection during period
Is it normal to get a yeast infection during your period. Will over the counter treatment be affected by the flow?
AskDocWeb: Yes they can be, it's better to wait until your period is over before using over those counter products.
Subj: Recurrent yeast infections
Hi, I've been dealing with recurrent yeast infections as a result of drug resistant bacterial vaginosis. Recently, I took two Monistat 3 treatments in a row (total of 6 days of treatment), after a treatment of Monistat 7 and subsequent diflucan treatment didn't work. (But, in the past, I've never had a Monistat work without taking it twice). Well, there was still a very small amount of itching, so I had another pelvic. (I have had tons of pelvics).
Everything came back negative! Even bacteria, meaning the Flagyl FINALLY worked. This was the first time this has happened in 4 months. I had sex with my partner that night, and it burned a bit after sex. I should mention that this round of yeast treatment was started after burning after sex in both partners, so we both went to the doctor's together, and was told that I had the yeast, and he didn't need to be treated. He did not have a negative reaction last night. My last dose of Monistat was taken two nights before the intercourse. Is it possible that I just need to wait for the irritation to die down? (The pelvic included gonorrhea and chlamydia, as had every other pelvic, they've always come back negative).
The only thing off was a very slightly raised white blood cell count. I use a sensitive skin scent free soap and dye/ scent free detergent, and only use cotton underwear or no underwear. What should my next treatment option be?
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you have done everything you can. The question remains, what is the cause of the recurring yeast infections? It may help to stay away from being intimate until all symptoms are gone. That would give your body a chance to heal. You may want to follow up with a visit to your GYN to make sure everything is clear.
Subj: Antibiotics then yeast infection
I've been taking antibiotics for a tooth infection and after taking them I found out that they can give you a yeast infection. Well, I went to the store and got a one day treatment and used it. Even though I'm not through taking the pills I still used it. Is that why my symptoms haven't gone away? Should I get another treatment now that I'm finished taking the pills and do you think it will work?
AskDocWeb: Sometimes the one day treatment is just not enough. That's why they have a three-day Monostat treatment.
Subj: Bacteria vaginosis
I was recently treated for bacteria vaginosis. After treatment I've had a very chunky cottage cheese like discharge. There is no odor though it does itch on the outside. My check up only show BV no STD but where is the discharge coming from? Why hasn't it went away? Will it go away?
AskDocWeb: The dosage prescribed may have been insufficient to completely clear up the infection or you may have been re-infected by your sex partner. Also note, when using the medicine prescribed for treatment of bacterial vaginosis, be sure to use it all, even if the signs and symptoms go away.
Subj: Amoxicillin Yeast infection
So I was reading what 12 day infection wrote and I was also on Amoxicillin and I got a yeast infection...or so I think. I haven't been to the doctor yet but it has re occurred about 2 times after my treatment with that medicine. Can this re occure without treatment?
AskDocWeb: A yeast infection must be treated with some type of product like Monostat for at least three days or it will continue or return. Once you are off of the antibiotic and treat the yeast infection it won't come back again without a cause.
Subj: I am bleeding
I had a yeast infection (i.e. burning swelling discharge) I used the store brand Monistat 1 when I woke up (after 12 hours of insertion) all seemed fine...then while showering I noticed I am bleeding?!??! HELP,
AskDocWeb: If it wasn't time for your period to start then please see your physician.
Subj: Monistat and pregnancy test
I had a yeast infection and bought Monistat 7 around the time that my period was suppose to come. I used the cream and took a pregnancy test within the last couple of days of the treatment regime. Can Monistat cause the pregnancy test to be inaccurate? My period still hasn't come yet and it's over a week late; the pregnancy test said I was not pregnant.
AskDocWeb: No, there is no cross reactivity between Monistat and a pregnancy test. A pregnancy test detects the presence of a hormone called hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) which is only produced during pregnancy. On the other hand, yeast infections are common with pregnancy.
Subj: Smell and white chunky discharge
I have never had a yeast infection or anything of that sort my whole life. I am 20 and recently I've been noticing after I get my period I have had this aweful smell and white chunky discharge, No itching or burning though. Is this a yeast infection? I am using a suppositorie daily for 7 days to see if it will help, what do you think?
AskDocWeb: It sounds like it could be a yeast infection but your doctor could tell you for sure. If your seven-day treatment doesn't get rid of it then see your doctor.
Subj: Itch like crazy in the morning
I use to have BV and/or yeast infections all the time before I got pregnant (2yrs ago). I had a BV infection early in my pregnancy, was given Metronitozole and never had BV or yeast infection since then...I think that being pregnant cleared whatever it was that continued the infections. Just recently my husband and I had intercourse (toys!) and a couple of days later I started having vaginal inflamation and really bad itching...no smell, no cottage cheese. I started taking 3day Monistat and the day after my period started. I am on day two and it still itch like crazy in the morning when the cream starts to come down. My questions are: Should I still have itching after day 2? And do you think the medication will cure it since I came on my period?...it's so hard to remember the outcome from 2 years ago...
AskDocWeb: Yes, you may still experience the itching on day two of treatment. Monistat can still be used during your period. There is a note of caution for you: Do not use Monistat for external vaginal (vulvar) itching due to causes other than a yeast infection. Make sure you keep those toys clean.
Subj: Every time I have sex
Hello... my problem is that it seem like every time I have sex... I begin to contract a yeast infection. My partner before had went in too deep and I think that was a result of the yeast infections. I don't know if it damaged some of my insides or what but I need feedback please. I'm supposed to be getting married soon and when I make love... I don't want to have to keep on going to the doctor for prescriptions you know!! So please what should I do to prevent it from happening again? Should I get x-rays to look inside my stomach to see if something is damaged or what? As of right now I don't have it. My Doctor had prescribed me "Fluconazole" and it helped greatly. I just don't want it to happen again and I'm supposed to be getting married.
AskDocWeb: We suggest you read our report on yeast infections and then review your behavior. There is a possibility that you may be doing something to cause this.
Subj: Specialist for yeast infections
I have had a chronic yeast infection since April 08 and have been on Diflucan and monistat most of the past months. I am under alot of stress and am doing everything advised to NOT have an infection. I am wondering is there any specialists who know how to deal with this infection?
AskDocWeb: Yes, the specialist you want to consult is the urologist.
