Subj: This drug has long term effects!
Date: 12/23/2007
For me the whole thing started in early August 2007 when I started to have problems with balance, focus, nausea, mood swings, anxiety and itching. I had an MRI scan, and a CT Angiography, but the neurologist found nothing physically wrong. He thought that I was depressed - a combination of frustration and worry at not knowing what is wrong with me. I had to wait for over to 3 months to know if I was going to live or die! It was only recently after having read about the side effects of Zyban that I put two and two together. I took Zyban to stop smoking (and it worked - I don't smoke anymore). But I am convinced that this drug has caused most of the adverse symptoms that I have experienced. I know this is going to sound alarmist, but in this case it is alarming and it makes me angry that Zyban is still being prescribed! Hundreds of people have gone through similar or worse experience than me! At least I stopped smoking which is something I suppose, but at what cost? This drug has long term effects! The commonest reactions are: insomnia, skin rashes, headache, dizziness, nausea, depression, confusion, loss of coordination and balance, and I have had had all of these symptoms!

As for my health now - six months on I am still off work on medical grounds. I am left with claustrophobia and anxiety attacks. I am positive about my future and meditate every day, which helps a great deal. But I do have a question, which has not really been answered here. How long are the long term effects of this drug. When will the anxiety attacks stop? Is the damage to the brain permanent or does it subside with time? This is really important to my motivation to get better and I am sure of great interest to my fellow sufferers. Please help with some medical advice! I want my life back! Thank you.
Alec

Subj: Terrible headaches
Date: 12/27/2007
Well after reading the comments on this page, I think you really have to take them for what they are worth. I started taking Zyban and I had terrible headaches for two days and was moderately anxious and lost a large amount of sleep. I could feel my heart racing and pounding and was certainly moody for the first week or two. Two tablets was too much for me, so I only took one on my Dr.'s advice. I mean it is a powerful drug, but hello!! Smoking WILL kill you!!

I haven't smoked now for 3 years and really would recommend that if you would like to live a long life, lung cancer free and cannot find within yourself the willpower to quit drug free (which is obviously the best case scenario) then you should give it a try. These reviews all sound terrible...and I believe that some people have really awful experiences, but then imagine that cancerous growth inside you, the heart disease, the suffering of your loved ones you will leave behind. All I can say is I am now doing everything possible to stay healthy, those around me supported me and the Zyban made it possible.

Subj: Paradox effect
Date: 1/5/2008
Hello, My Dr. put me on Wellbutrin for anxiety and to quit smoking. He did warn me about side affects. After about three weeks I had what was called the paradox effect, that is the drug did the opposite of what it was supposed to do. My problem was that my anxiety level got so high that I was not thinking clearly. Was blaming everything else but the drug. When I finally realized what was going on I was too scared to do anything about it, I had gotten it into my head that my anxiety would increase if I stopped taking the drug. I was convinced that the real problem was that I was going crazy. One night I was desperately wanting to talk to somebody. Unfortunately all the people I wanted to talk to were dead. In the past several years I have lost many family members and close friends. Fortunately that night I said the heck with it and stopped taking the Wellbutrin. Improvement started immediately but still it has taken about two weeks to get back to normal.

Subj: Dry mouth, the insomnia, the dizziness
Date: 1/7/2008
I have been on Zyban now for 6 days (3 days 1 a day and 3 days 2 a day) and I think I am going to stop taking it (after I talk to my Dr of course). I have had the dry mouth, the insomnia, the dizziness to the point where I thought I was going to faint, headaches, extreme depression, extremely emotional - I have cried more in the last 4 days than I think I have in my entire life, and had some blurred vision yesterday. It does make the smokes taste weird but still smoking. I think I'm gonna try the lazer therapy.

Subj: Potentially deadly side effects
Date: 1/22/2008
Stop taking Zyban immediately! There are other holistic approaches to quit smoking! Zyban has many negative and potentially deadly side effects. It's not worth it! You can quit smoking by not taking prescription pills. Your family needs you here and their are other healthy solutions in health stores, exercise and organic foods. You are worth it!

Subj: Congratulations
Date: 1/31/2008
I have taken a course of zyban twice, the first time I read all about the side affects of zyban on the enclosed pamphlet, it really worried me, but, I took them as prescribed. The only affects I felt was the urge for a cigarette, that was four months ago, Well haven't had a smoke since. And I was a forty a day smoker for thirty years so all I can say is, they really do work, those zyban. Congratulations to all that, are stopping, the dreaded habit of smoking!
Cheers From Russ!

Subj: Zyban review
Date: 2/2/2008
Someone said that they used Zyban and it did not stop them from craving a cigarette. All I can say to that is, Are you sure it was Zyban you had? I am not presuming you bought it off the Internet but if you did, and it did not stop you craving a cigarette, maybe it was one of those fake load of crap drugs some med sites sell. ANYWAY. This is the second time I have used it. First time 4 years ago and it worked, unfortunately, I had some Cuban cigars and they got me hooked again.. BUT not straight away I may add, it was a year before I got hooked good and proper again. So I went to my GP last week and said Doctor Darc, I know you yourself like a cigar but I need to stop smoking, I hate it and I hate those patches, they make me itch and I would just rather rip the stupid thing off and spark up a cig than even bother with them. I said, I need Zyban. He said why do you need zyban, I told him, I had it before and bought it online. He looked at me over the top of his glasses, "I know" I said. OK so he gives me the prescription and I skip merry to the pharmacy to pick up my wonderful zyban that I know work and will stop me smoking. I Forgot how potent they are though OUCH! OK Zyban. WORKS a treat but be prepared for one of the rides of your life. I do not recommend it for someone who is seriously depressed and has a dark outlook on life right now but if you consider yourself to be head strong, Go for it.

This is how I feel personally and is what I am experiencing from Zyban, I am on the second day of the 2 tabs a day. So it has been 6 days of 1 a day and 2 days of 2 a day, I have had my 2 yesterday and its 5:01 AM and I cannot sleep. I have been awake singe 9AM yesterday morning so almost 24 hours. This takes me back to my youth when I would drop SPEED as a favorite past time.. Real strong speed that keeps one awake for 3 days solid and the feeling that is experienced on the come down after the initial feeling of joy has worn off. With Zyban, I don't get that initial Buzz I just get the Mild lucidity. I almost Hallucinated yesterday afternoon, Yesterday, I think it was, My mind feels all out of sync with the world at the moment. Dry Mouth, Feeling dirty like skin is crawling. Tight Jaw and really Tense. The only thing that's not like the speed is I have a good appetite and I enjoy my food more than normal. Sex drive is up. So hallucination. Yes almost but not quite. I remember them from years ago on the speed, the feeling before they occurred. Well I got that earlier. I felt it and expected to hallucinate any moment but I didn't. I did however see colours more vivid. What about this? In life, we all have things we worry about yes? well this is how I put it. I know I should be worried about it but I am not and that makes me feel very uneasy and on edge. I feel like I am in some kind of cocoon separated from the real world. Don't get me wrong, I have all my wits about me, I am not suffering from severe psychosis but lets just say, You know when you are on Zyban, well I do anyway. The main thing is, IT WORKS and stops you smoking, like a switch it turns off the cravings rather than slowly weening you off nicotine, it destroys the need for nicotine altogether.

They say you need willpower with zyban, I don't think that's true because Zyban makes cigarettes taste foul and after 2 or 3 drags you throw it over the next door neighbors back fence, Behind the shed so he don't know!!! Some of you will be reading this thinking, Daam this guy has got it bad, Zyban has turned him into some nut job. No because I know that if I stopped taking it now and did not have my 2 pills tomorrow, within 4 or 5 days, I would be normal again. No more strange anxiety and churning stomach. No more strange headaches and no more sitting up till the early hours writing long testimonials about Zyban. I also know that if I stopped taking it tomorrow, I would probably start smoking again. Just 3 more weeks I would say and I will be cured of nicotine addiction. Oh and for those of you getting stressed and shouting, Complaining about anything and everything and losing your rag, Just stop for a second and think "CALM" I can be calm as well as Hyped up. Calm makes me feel more relaxed and happy where as going on one will just make the headache worse.. ZYBAN.. Zyban Zyban. Wow Jimbo Zyban, That sounds quite cool!!!

Subj: Big mistake
Date: 2/5/2008
I first tried zyban about 6 years ago and it really made me feel ill all the time and had trouble with co-ordination, went to pick up a cup and would miss, found it really scary and stopped taking them, about 3 years decided to have another go but decided to stick to 1 tablet a day only and found I had no side effects and quit for a year, but then thought I could become a social smoker. Big mistake, am now going back on to zyban next week to finally quit for good, but will stick to just one tablet a day.
