About Adipex

What is Adipex?
Adipex is the best selling brand name of Phentermine, (FEN-ter-meen). Adipex is the most effective weight loss drug on the market. It’s an appetite suppressant used along with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy for the short-term management of obesity. Some of the alternatives are Didrex, Xenical, and Bontril.
How does Adipex work?
This medicine works by stimulating your hypothalamus gland, and affects certain neurotransmitters to decrease your appetite. It’s used with an overall plan to reduce your weight. Adipex hydrochloride is similar chemically to amphetamines. It has the potential for psychological dependency so you should use with caution.
What side effects do users of Adipex report?
Adipex may alter insulin requirements. Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include restlessness, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, or dry mouth. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
Irritability, stomach upset or constipation may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the medicine.
A small percentage of users report changes in libido. Adipex-P has been documented to have the potential to produce sexual difficulties in men, both impotence and erectile dysfunction.
Call your doctor at once if you have any of the following serious side effects:
- feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion
- swelling
- rapid weight gain
- chest pain, fast or uneven heartbeat
- feeling like you might pass out
- unusual thoughts or behavior
- feeling restless or confused
- dangerously high blood pressure (severe headache, buzzing in your ears, blurred vision, anxiety, confusion, chest pain, uneven heartbeats, shortness of breath, seizure)
What are the symptoms of overdose?
The effects of overdose include restlessness, tremor, rapid respiration, confusion, assaultiveness, hallucinations, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps and panic. Fatigue and depression usually follow. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Fatal poisoning usually begins with convulsions and coma.

I have taken and am on now, Adipex. I think it works GREAT as an appetite supressant (sometimes too good), but has caused mood changes such as irritability. I have not however had behavioral modification and after the first time using it, gained some weight back.

Subj: problems with drug Adipex
Date: 4/7/2003
I have been on Adipex for 1 1/2 months now and have not noticed one single pound loss…I am about 40 pounds overweight. I try very hard to watch what and when I eat…I am extremely busy during the days and evenings and do not have a eating disorder so to speak…don’t overdo on the sweets or such…only bad habit would have to be too many carbs….carb diet works but comes right back when I start eating the again….I won’t mention the pharmacist but he suggested I try 2 of these pills a day (one in morning and one in afternoon)…I will say that it has worked better at controlling my appetite…I really don’t eat that much! example day: avg bagel for breakfast, tuna sandwich or turkey on whole wheat 40 cal slice, small bag of chips or something to that sort, dinner will be either salad (not a lot of dressing or diet dressing)…this is honestly what I eat! No fudging about it!
Again, have not lost a single pound using Adipex. Will say, that I think a problem could be that I don’t take in enough water. I had a serious bought with constipation last week and gave up with all the straining that I had to take a laxative…won’t do that again! caused really bad stomach cramps that I don’t want to experience again…needless to say I am drinking lots of water now! Also, I do computer work all day and prob not enough physical exercise besides general housework and the such…
In all, is the water and the lack of extensive exercise my problem with this pill not working? Again, my daily caloric intake is around 1,000 or less!
If you can help I would really appreciate it….pharmacist also suggested that I might try instead tenuate?
Dianne
AskDocWeb: Tenuate is a possibility, however, all of the weight loss products we have examined are designed to be used with an exercise program. This could be something as simple as a 20-minute walk, once a day. If you invite someone to walk with you, it can also be a social occasion to build and maintain relationships.
Subj: Adipex

I have been on Adipex for 13 days now. Since starting the prescription I am eating only a large bowl of bran cereal with a glass of 100% juice no sugar added for breakfast, a low fat low cal frozen lunch no more than 300 cal., and I will eat a 2oz. serving of either white meat chicken, ground turkey or, baked fish fillet with a large serving of steamed veggies for supper. I do not snack I do not eat red meat and I have basically no carbs, I have also cut out sugar. The only other products that enter this mouth are calorie free soda and water.
This along with a good 20-45 minute workout every day I am seeing great results. The fat seems to be melting off, I can see the results daily. Yes it was very different for the first week, having been a fan of sugar and most all carbs. I find my weight loss motivation in wanting to be healthy for my children, for my self, and setting a good eating example for my daughters. This wouldn’t be possible with out great support from my parents and my husband. If you really want it you can do it, you must make sacrifices.

Subj: Amazed at results

I have been using Adipex for 2 weeks and I’m amazed at the results. I have been taking it with meal replacement shakes and have been going to the gym for an hour 5 times a week and the results are incredible.

Subj: Not recommended

I recently asked my physician about using Adipex and he said he would this or give me a perscription for it. He said that it is a habit forming drug that will cause more problems than its worth. He went on too say that if I just eat right, cut the carbs and exercise the weight will come off and as I have read the people that exercise lose and those who are not don’t, so I think I’ll just stick to the exercising and diet. I have lost 13 pounds in the last 17 days and all it takes is a little willpower! You can choose to stay fat or you can change your way of thinking and keep the food out of your mouth and start moving, just walking makes a big difference and stay away from those carbs they turn to fat.

I have been using adipex for ten days and the weight is falling off. I don’t have alot of time to work out so this is great. I have been eating healthier but not extremely healthy. I drink a gallon of water a day as well. I have lost ten pounds and people are starting to comment which makes me feel good. I have several friends that I have recommended adipex to and they are going to order it as well! Good luck!

Subj: Tired
Date: 4/11/2004
I have only been on this medicine – Adipex – for 4 days and my tummy is flatter and my jeans are looser in the butt area and thigh area. Since I take an antidepressant and an anxiety med with blood pressure med also, I am tired on this medicine. The first nite I could not sleep, tossed and turned. But since then, I have no problem, but I am so tired. Anyone else tired? It’s Easter weekend and I am off, I have taken a nap everyday without problem.

Subj: Completley satisfied
Date: 5/24/2004
I have tried apidex off and on for about 5 months. I was amazed by the results. When I first started taking the pill I experienced painful stomach cramping and it seemed as if I was hungrier than normal the first few days. The end results were wonderful, though. I am average 5ft 7 and 140lbs…now 125…and happier with my body now more than ever. After having my son 7 years ago I struggled with those last 15 lbs…tried all the pros-cons…hydroxycut, eca stack, stacker 3…they all made me gittery and edge-e. This had no effect on my moods. I took it a half hour before eating once a day and if I decided to take a second pill…same routine. Good luck…give it a try…everyone is diffrent…but its the only weight loss pill I was completley satisfied with ….ever!!!

Subj: This pill is great
Date: 5/28/2004
I have been taking adipex for about 4 months now. As far as losing weight, this pill is great. I have lost 42 pounds so far. I went without taking it for a month and I can honestly say that it changed the way I looked at food. I didn’t crave the things that I once did after having taken adipex. Having said that, though, the side effects are tremendous. While taking adipex I have horrible mood swings and if it hadn’t been for my determination on losing weight I would have quit taking it a long time ago. I have never had emotional problems or anything of the sort. This pill made me extremely irritable constantly. Another bad side effect was constipation. I am almost at my goal weight and I will be very glad when I am so that I can quit this pill. I hate the way it makes me feel. If you have the willpower to just simply cut back on your eating and exercise more, that’s the way to go. This medication has very disturbing side effects. Or it has for me anyway. Best of luck to you on whatever you should decide!
