Subj: Lost 31 pounds
Date: 7/11/2007
I have been taking Adipex for almost 3 months and have lost 31lbs. I feel great and am not hungry at all. I have had another side effect no one can explain. For over 20 years I have had premenstrual migraines the day I start with no relief. Over the years the doctors have tried many medications, diets, and even herbal remedies to no avail. Since I started the Adipex it is the first time since I was 15 years old that I have not had a migraine the day I start my period. Has anyone else had this effect? My doctor says it can not remedy this, but it is strange they have completely stopped for the first time since taking this drug.

Lisa

AskDocWeb: Be careful with those herbal remedies. There are some herbs that interact with medication.

Subj: I’m starving
Date: 7/12/2007
I have been taking it for a week. I can’t tell a difference. I’m starving in the morning…and by dinner I’m hungry again. During the day I’m fine. Should I keep taking it…or stop?

MC

AskDocWeb: Please contact your doctor, your dosage may need to be adjusted.

Subj: doctor demands I lose
Date: 7/13/2007
I had been taking Adipex for a few months. My doctor demands I lose at least 7 lbs. a month or he will not renew the meds for the next month. I get very nervous knowing I MUST loose this. Last month I got so nervous I ate, and pretty much stayed the same. So now what should I do? I have lost about 40 lbs., and have 50lbs to go. I now can’t stop eating, and feel like a drug addict who is out of control. I have horrible carb sensitivities. Should I go to another doctor? Was my doctor on track demanding a certain weight loss monthly? Help! Thanks,

Katy

AskDocWeb: Your doctor is right, and you should lose a minimum of 7 lbs. You have to be serious about wanting to lose weight to use this drug. If you don’t commit to doing the whole program (exercising, eating for nutrition, counting calories, etc.) then it is a waste of time.

Subj: Scared to tell my doctor
Date: 7/14/2007
I have been taking phentermine off and on for 1 year. I’m scared because I have small pains in my upper left chest area. My heart feels like it flutters a little like there is a pressure like feeling on my lungs. I recently had an EKG and the doctor said it was normal and I don’t have hypertension…what do you think this sounds like? I’m scared to tell my doctor I am on adipex because I got it off the Internet and I am not medically overweight. What should I do?

Beth

AskDocWeb: People who take Adipex and are not medically overweight are engaged in drug abuse. What you describe sounds like heart palpitations. Please stop before you cause yourself serious harm.

Subj: Baseline metabolism
Date: 7/16/2007
I was prescribed Adipex for a 4-month period beginning in November of 2006. I cut back on my eating, significantly, added about 30 minutes of exercise 7 days a week and lost significant weight for the first three months. In the 4th month, however, I had a severe flare-up of gout (podagra!) and was unable to exercise, so my weight loss stopped and the doctor took me off the drug. He insisted that I join a diet group so I could continue losing weight. I agreed and joined weight watchers and began exercising again once the gout improved. Despite sticking closely to my Weight Watchers diet plan, and including at least 30 minutes of up-tempo walking everyday, I have been unable to lose any weight, and have, in fact, been gaining weight over the last three weeks. Since I can not be pregnant, and I’m not showing any signs of serious illness, I suspect that my baseline metabolism has been obliterated by the drug. Even if there is no scientific study to prove it, and the evidence is only anecdotal, I believe that Adipex “resets” the baseline metabolism in certain people (of which I am one!) to such a low level that it becomes impossible to lose weight once the drug is no longer being taken. This may especially be true in people over 40 years of age. Now, I am extremely angry with my physician for doing this too me, especially since he refuses to consider that the Adipex is what has caused this problem. I do follow the diet program and do keep the food diaries…I KNOW that I have been doing everything right to lose weight, and yet I don’t. What has been a terrible struggle for me for my entire life has become even worse and shows no sign of improvement after 14 weeks off the drug.

Subj: Constipation and the mood swings
Date: 7/17/2007
The first day with the pill was tremendously horrible. I was with my dried mouth, and I almost think that I was gonna die of thirst. Buuuutttt… I really lost weight, almost 10 pound in one month. But the constipation and the moody things was the worst part. And I have a hungrier way. I would like to loose but I don’t know how? Somebody can tell me. Because I paying on Training BUT I RECORVER THE POUNDS AFTER LEFT ADIPEX.

Carol

AskDocWeb: The pounds will come back once you stop the Adipex unless you are fearless about exercising and eating properly.

Subj: I loved it
Date: 7/20/2007
Hi, My doctor started me on adipex, and I loved it. I have fought weight problems, need to loose more than 80 this time… all my life. The only problem is- my doctor has put a set amount I have to loose from month to month. She only gives me a month prescription, and I have to go weigh every month- if I don’t loose 7 lbs. a month, she will cut me off. Well, I have stayed the same last month- so she is done with me. Won’t give me another prescription!! Is it wrong to try to find another doctor to give me a prescription? I don’t care if it takes me over a year to loose my weight, slower is better in my opinion. What should I do? Thanks!

Katy

AskDocWeb: You could find another doctor to start over but that may not solve your problem. Did you make the life-style changes that go with the Adipex weight loss program? If not then just taking the pills is a waste of time.

Subj: Adipex worked great
Date: 7/23/2007
I took Adipex off and on for about 3 months. It worked great for me. I lost 21 pounds and I have kept it off for a little over a year now. I didn’t have the symptoms that I have heard others explain. I didn’t experience an increase in energy, feel shaky or jittery nor did I experience insomnia. It didn’t effect my heart rate or my blood pressure. However, I did feel a little irritable at times and when I stopped taking it I was extremely tired for about 2 days. To me though it was worth it!!

Subj: I LOVE Adipex
Date: 7/26/2007
I am 48…I was 147 lbs. at 5’3″ three months ago. Today I weigh 131, with more INCHES than weight lost. I LOVE Adipex, my appetite is next to nothing. WARNING: I would advise people to start with a half and build up to a whole adipex — or you may lose nights of sleep like I did!! My husband has lost 30-something and he couldn’t sleep at first either…IT IS WORTH IT!

Subj: Quick fix
Date: 7/31/2007
my doctor told me that Adipex is a quick fix and you will gain the weight back plus some!

Angela

AskDocWeb: That is true if you try to use it without changing your diet and increasing the amount of exercise you get. That’s what they mean by making lifestyle changes.

Subj: Weigh the differences
Date: 8/11/2007
I am 39yrs old 260lbs and my daughter who is 18yrs old weighs 270lbs. We have a huge family history of just about everything. We both was pretty much depressed and we ate alot because of it. We have tried just about everything on the market, herbs included. I have had friends who have really good results from taking adipex. As with anything that you put into your body, it has side effects. We had to out weigh the differences of our family history or the pill… We decided to try the pill 8/9/07 and in just 3 days we have already lost 5lbs together, seeing that scale go down instead of up makes everything worth it. To see her light up about 2 or 3 lbs. makes all the difference to me. I have been told that if you take B12 it does help with the mood swings and we take it. It really does help. Plenty of water and stay active. Having someone go though it with you really helps. Take it as early as you can to, so that you will be able to sleep at night. It really does work, only it is not for people who just want to lose 10 or 20 lbs. We are talking at least 100lbs here. I want to find me again!

Lisa

AskDocWeb: Great job!

AskDocWeb: It’s possible, and when in doubt you consult with your doctor to have your blood pressure checked – soon.

Subj: Conclusion about Adipex
Date: 8/16/2007
I have been taking Adipex for 4 months. I started out taken 37.5 mg per day and found that I had trouble sleeping at first. Within a few days this went away. During the first 2 months I also experienced dry mouth and sweating more than usual. Included with this was an occasional inability to say things in the right order. After 2 months and a loss of 18 pounds the doctor bumped my medication to 75 mg daily. I found myself sleeping less, only 4-5 hours a day. Over the last 2 weeks I now realize from talking to my family and looking in the mirror, that I have become much more agitated and angry. As I lost more weight and taking the same dose I believe my symptoms have become much worse. Tonight my wife and I had a great evening dinner, went shopping came home and then: I came to a conclusion that this drug is not worth it. I ended up getting upset over something dumb (a video game) and started yelling and saying things I believed I could never say. This came just 1 hour after taking my 2nd pill for the day. I have lost 30 lbs. to date. It is still not worth losing my family and my health over it. I am writing from the heart I hope this helps someone else. My family told me tonight that this has been getting worse over the last 4 months. But they did not want me to be upset with them by asking me to stop taking the pills. If you have family / friends ask them do they see a change in your mood or disposition. You may be surprised. God Bless!

Mike
