Subj: Hair falling out more than usual
Date: 2/19/2008
Hi! I was reading over the post for adipex and was looking for a particular post. I to have experienced hair falling out more than usual. I have taken adipex for 4 months. I recently stopped taking it, for I have almost reached my weight loss goal (lost 40lbs :)), I noticed within the 3 weeks of quitting my hair is coming out more. I can run my fingers through it and have a handful. When I wash it, it seems worse. At first I thought it was breakage, but most of it seems to be from the roots. A friend of mine has also been experiencing the same thing lately and considering with both just quit the adipex we thought it must be linked to that. Any suggestions? Will it quit? Thanks,

Melissa

AskDocWeb: The stress involved with dieting is one of the known causes of hair loss. If that is what is causing your hair loss then it should stop when the stress does.

Subj: Painful constipation
Date: 2/20/2008
I have been experiencing constant painful constipation on a daily basis. What can I do to remedy this? Thanks,

B

AskDocWeb: It is not unusual to experience constipation in the first few days as your body adjusts to Adipex. Remedies for constipation include drinking lots of water, eating more fiber in your food or taking a stool softener.

Subj: Thanks

Thanks for your project. I like this site. KEEP IT UP.

AskDocWeb: You’re welcome Timmy. Is there any other diet drug you would like to see covered?

Subj: Wonder what is wrong with me
Date: 2/24/2008
Been taking adipex 8 days & hadn’t lost 1 pd. I am 5″4 and weigh 148, I am used to weighing around 136. Drinking tons of water, cut back on food & have no desire for sweets. Don’t know why I am not loosing anything at all. Reading so much on how everyone has lost their first week & so on, makes me wonder what is wrong with me,

Julie Ann

AskDocWeb: It may be that you are leaving out the exercise. If you don’t burn more calories than you consume then you can’t lose weight. Remember you have to both burn the fat and feed the muscle.

Subj: They really work
Date: 2/26/2008
I got my hands on these in end of Dec 07 and by Mid Jan 08 I had already lost 20 LBS. They really work, I am desperate to find some way of getting some more. Anyone has any recommendations?

Mimi

AskDocWeb: Ask your doctor for a prescription.

Subj: Wired and hard time concentrating
Date: 2/28/2008
I was given adipex by my doctor in conjunction with synthroid. I am wired and having a very hard time concentrating. I feel like I am not making sense. Is this a side affect that will go away after a couple of days or is this completely normal? Please help

Bri

AskDocWeb: These are symptoms of overdose, please contact your doctor right away.

Subj: Lost 16 pounds so far
Date: 3/1/2008
I started taking adipex 2 weeks ago I have lost 16 pounds so far. My doctor told me whatever I wanted to weigh multiply that by 8 and that’s how many calories to eat so I have been eating about 960 calories a day. I’m eating a low carb diet cut out all junk food, which was my biggest problem especially chocolate. I’m 5’3 and started out 156 and as of today I weigh 140. I love this medicine I haven’t had the surge of energy that everyone has talked about I just feel like myself again I don’t feel like napping everyday now but I’m not bouncing off of the walls either . I haven’t had any problems sleeping either its taken away all my cravings for junk I can’t say enough great things about it. I also work out 30 to 50 minutes everyday on my ellipitical. I plan on taking it for 2 months all together to lose a total of 30 pounds I’ll check back in and let everyone know the final results

Subj: Wonderful results with Adipex
Date: 3/2/2008
I have been using Adipex since late December 2007. It is now the beginning of March 2008 and I have had wonderful results with Adipex. I have lost a total of 26 pounds so far. I have had to take two breaks from it due to excessive dry mouth. Other than that I have no complaints. It has helped me to control the urge to eat constantly and I do not crave junk food all the time. I do not constantly think about food anymore. Also, my blood pressure is back down to normal. It was not “high” per se but it had been slightly elevated for the last several years. I started out at 288lbs and am now down to 262lbs. I have started a regular exercise program (karate) as well as walking with a friend on weekends. The only thing I can say is to check with your doctor and follow his/her recommendations. You should take all medications with caution. Everyone reacts differently to all meds.

Subj: Crazy, dizzy, high, confused, Insomnia, Sleepy
Date: 3/5/2008
I was on Adipex for 1 week and it made me feel crazy, dizzy, very high, confused, Insomnia, Sleepy, I literally didn’t know what to do with my self. I almost rushed my self to the hospital and I only took a half early in the mornings around 7AM and didn’t get to sleep around 3Am the next morning. I’ll never take it again!!! Good luck to those who do!!

Subj: Dry mouth and nasty taste
Date: 3/8/2008
I started to take adipex today but I did not get any side effects except for dry mouth and a nasty taste in my mouth. I want to know if this means it is not working on me???

Michelle

AskDocWeb: No, that doesn’t mean it’s not working, give it time.

Subj:Chest pain
Date: 3/25/2008
I have took this as well as my hubby- I did not loose but about 5lbs he lost 25lbs. I could not sleep I felt like their was bugs crawling on my head, and I would get lots of chest pain-which really scares me because I know all the s/s of a MI. so I quit taking the pill gained all my weight back in about 2weeks. my husband on the other hand says that he loves it and says that he has no side effects so he continues to take it. I have noticed that he is very irritable, and we have had more arguments in the past month that he has been on the med than in a year. He does not believe that it could be the medicine. Is anyone else having that problem?

Subj: Jittery at first
Date: 3/25/2008
Thanks for the site!! I can speak on behalf of my sister who has tried everything under the sun but it did not work then a few months ago she started adipex 37.5 it mad her jittery at first and she also developed a urinary track infection most likely from not consuming enough water with the pill. She decided to take half the dosage and hang in there determined to lose weight. Well she did and she looks great. I would like to try it also but still skeptical and over weight. I weigh 21lbs I would like to lose at least 35lbs and I think if I try hard enough to suppress my appetite I can do it without the cost of being dehydrated, having mood swings or feeling to jittery at the end of the day.

Subj: Pill identifier
Date: 3/25/2008
I have been on Phentermine for October. The first 3 months I lost 25 lbs. I now feel nothing. I have lost no more weight but I haven’t gained it back either, but I do not feel the effects of the pills anymore? Can you take more than 1 pill to get the effects back? I would ask my physician before doing so, but I thought I ask your first. Also when I started out with what we called Adipex-P they were small oblong blue with blue speckles, now on this new scrip, they were white oblong with blue speckles. Why the difference? Thanks, I was just wondering about the difference in color and when reading about adipex from the phamplet enclosed with my scrip from the RX store, it states if taking once or if taking twice a day? Thanks for your input.

AskDocWeb: The appearance varies by manufacturer and dosage. You need to talk to your doctor about increasing the dosage but it may not do any good. The body has a tendency to build up a tolerance for the drug and it stops working after a time.

Subj: Going cold turkey?
Date: 3/26/2008
I want to go off adipex, will going cold turkey hurt me?

Tammie

AskDocWeb: The only problems we found with quitting cold turkey were from patients who were abusing Adipex by using many times the recommended dosage. When they abruptly stopped following prolonged use of high dosage, they experienced extreme fatigue and mental depression. If you have been taking it at the recommended dosage there should be no problem when you quit taking it.

Subj: Irritable and mood swings
Date: 3/27/2008
I took Adipex for about 5 months last year. It worked wonderfully; I was never hungry and, in combination with diet and exercise, I lost 35 pounds. However, it came with a price. I also take Zoloft for anxiety and depression. While taking Adipex, I became very irritable and had mood swings but tossed it up to being on a diet. Since I was already on Zoloft, I sought counseling thinking I was going nuts. When I stopped taking it, literally 3 days later all my friends and family told me they could tell my mood was MUCH better and that they all had been worried about me because of my irritability and mood swings. It wasn’t until after I stopped taking Adipex that I put 2 and 2 together. While I believe Adipex is very good at decreasing appetite and increasing energy levels, one must weigh its benefits against the side effects. It would have been helpful had my doctor or pharmacist warned me about taking Adipex while on Zoloft. But, I still would take it again. It gave me the ability to get on track with a diet and exercise regime that I can now stick to.

Subj: Nauseated and dizzy
Date: 3/28/2008
I have been on ADIPEX for 11 days, I have already lost 9 pounds! WOW! However, I always feel sleepy, it has not given me any energy. When I get home from work I don’t feel like doing anything…especially exercise. I do feel a nauseated and dizzy at times. I can handle the nausea but the dizziness scares me a little. I wonder, if the dizziness comes from where I am not eating like my body is used to me eating – maybe I’m not getting enough nourishment. Any advise??? Anyway… I’m gonna keep taking it & I hope to keep losing weight. I go back to the doctor on 4/15. I will see what he says…

Subj: Dry mouth, pain and swelling on lips
Date: 4/10/2008
I used Adipex with great results and felt I did well on it, with exception of dry mouth to the point of burning pain and swelling on the insides of my lips. I also had protein build up in my milk duct which caused an infection and I’m wondering if this could be a side effect from Adipex and it’s spring and I’m considering going back on it as I’ve unfortunately regained the weight I lost the first go-around. Thank you,

Lorimar

AskDocWeb: You should tell your physician about these symptoms before you begin again.

Subj: Side effects that went away
Date: 4/21/2008
I have been on Adipex since Oct 23, 07. I have lost almost 40 pounds w/o excercise. I should excersise, but I hate to. Anyway, I have missed several pills in a row, specifically a few weeks ago while I was on vacation. Still losing tho 🙂 The only side affects I had at first was slight jitterness… nothing major at all, almost like a burst of energy, and dry mouth. A few months into it I got constipated, but that too passed. I had dry mouth alot at first but water is my friend so that was easily controlled. This was prescribed by my doctor and I am checked every month. I weighed 191.5 and at my last visit I weighed 155. I am gonna start taking everyday again and start walking now that it’s warm. I believe this pill is wonderful and haven’t read anything negative about it. Hopefully it will continue to work so I can get down to 140. After that I’ll stop taking it and hope that I can still eat right and not gain anything back.
