Subj: Adipex question
Date: 7/6/2008
I have been taking adipex for about 3 months and I have lost close to 40 pounds I am loving my new body but I am having problems with bowl movements. To be honest working out is minimal but due to working and planning a wedding. I have been perscribed Lactulose and it is not working, only I can go to the bathroom is taking a more powerful laxitive. I drink as much water as I can and nothing is working for me in need of help! Please,

Mrs M

AskDocWeb: First make sure you report that constipation to your doctor. Make an honest assessment of your nutritional intake. Is it really healthy and balanced or are you following a fad diet that has you lopsided in the carbohydrate or protein department? Constipation often points to a potential nutritional deficiency as well as a fiber shortage. You might try eating more vegetables (the less processed the better).
And remember that the process of digestion starts in the mouth where saliva puts digestive enzymes into the food. This prepares whatever you eat for proper digestion. If you eat too fast, the digestive system does not operate at its peak efficiency. Slow down and enjoy those meals.

Subj: Good work

Subj: Lost 14 pounds so far
Date: 7/11/2008
I have been on generic adipex since the beginning of June, 2008. I have lost 14 pounds so far. My biggest problem is I really have no appetite. I eat right. No fried foods, fruits and vegetables. To be honest if I don’t eat, I feel sick to my stomach. I don’t have any really bad side effects. Just difficulty sleeping at times. I exercise 3-5 times a week.

Subj: Adipex and Dry Mouth
Date: 7/13/2008
Hello, I am 5’7 and I am 270lbs. It’s too much weight for me to have for being 19. My doctor just started me on Adipex. Today is my second day. The first day I took it I felt so happy and I had so so much engery I thought it was funny because it was only the first day.. Today was the same but today I feel the dry mouth effect. My mouth is so so dry.. but it just makes me want to drink more. I am not hungry AT ALL.. I think the downfall to this is you have to eat. You cant loose weight right by not eating its not healthy. So I do make my self eat healthy foods during the day.. I’m so excited to see what this is going to do for me. I have tried working out and dieting and it has never worked for me so my doctor gave it to me to take. I hope to get down to 200. I don’t look like I weigh as much as I do so I don’t want to loose too much weight because I will look funny. Kinda like a triangle 🙂 Anyway I just wanted to put this on here because I’m so excited about what will happen and taking this pill. I do have a question though. Dry Mouth. Is this something I should worry about is it serious? Or just a minor side effect?

Victoria

AskDocWeb: Dry mouth is a common side effect of Adipex.

Subj: Amazing how it made a difference
Date: 7/17/2008
OK. First of all I have found out something that some Adipex users may not know. I took the pill for a month and ate only one time a day and it was very litle at supper. I had an intake of MAYBE 300 calories a day and didn’t understand why I did’t lose a pound. Someone told me to eat in the morning when I take the pill. Two weeks ago I started doing that and have lost 17 pounds. You have to give your body something to work with early in the day. Amazing how it made a difference. I have not exercised one time and I am starting immediately after reading these comments. If I can lose like that with no exercise imagine what I can do with exercise. BTW I had a severe eating disorder. I was hiding in the bathroom at work eating so no one would see me shoveling food in. Now it is the last thing on my mind. Adipex has done something for me that nothing else has came close to. It has changed my life in 6 weeks. I don’t feel like a fat loser with a eating problem anymore. EAT WITH THE PILL!! IT WORKS!!

Subj: Blood pressure and depression
Date: 7/19/2008
I’m taking effexor 150 lasix 40 mg aldactone for blood pressure and depression, can I still take adipix?

Shirley

AskDocWeb: Either one of the above conditions may disqualify you from taking Adipex. It’s up to your doctor to weigh the risks and benefits of Adipex to your health.

Subj: Really bad side effects
Date: 7/22/2008
I had started taking a dipex about 7 months after I had my daughter, at first I loved it, I thought it was wonderful the weight was coming off. I did have really bad side effects such as dry mouth, really fast heartbeat (I though it could hear my heart!)very nervous, extremly moody, edgy, irritable…it just made me a person I am not, but I stopped for a maybe 2 or 3 weeks, then I started again, oh and I was depressed, everything made me cry or just go off, anyway…shortly after I started getting numb, I think I may have been an anxiety attack, the numbness started in my fingers but went all the way thru my body even my nose, then my hands would like cramp up and I couldn’t move, it was one of the scariest feelings in my life, I had about 3 of these attacks, I stopped taking adipex, and I have been fine ever since, oh and the weight I did lose, I gained back…I was very disapointed because I really need to loose weight, I wish I could take adipex again, but I would never risk those attacks…oh and my hair was falling out like crazy, I would not recomed this to anybody…

Subj: Low TSH result Adipex
Date: 7/24/2008
I love Bontril SR 105. It’s only taken once a day. I have been on it for a almost 2 months. I had a Blood work up at it said my TSH was 0.24 a little low. Can bontril cause the TSH to show low on a BLOOD test? Please write me back. I haven’t experienced any other side affect accept for a dry mouth and I do have asthma, but it hasn’t bothered that at all. Thanks,

Kevin

AskDocWeb: Sorry Kevin, we don’t have time for individual replies. Adipex is not known to cause changes in TSH levels. Whether high or low, an abnormal TSH indicates an excess or deficiency in the amount of thyroid hormone in the body, but it does not indicate the reason why. Typically an abnormal TSH is followed by additional tests to investigate the cause.

Subj: Cyst on my thyroid
Date: 7/25/2008
I have been taking Adipex for three months. I have lost about 20 pounds. I also have developed a cyst on my thyroid. Could this be related to the Adipex???

L

AskDocWeb: Although it is not likely, the exact cause of cysts on the thyroid is unknown. Cysts on the thyroid start out as a nodule. The most common types of non-cancerous thyroid nodules are known as colloid nodules and follicular neoplasms. When a nodule becomes filled with fluid or blood, it is called a thyroid cyst. About 9 out of 10 cysts on the thyroid are benign or non-cancerous. If a nodule produces thyroid hormone without regard to the body’s need, it is called an autonomous nodule, and it can occasionally lead to hyperthyroidism.

Subj: Confussed
Date: 8/1/2008
I have been taking adipex off and on now I think that my body has adjusted to it. I am 5’6 and wgt 180 and I am stuck there. Is this normal? I also, work at a busy clinic were I barely get to sit down I am rooming and seeing pt. I try to drink water as I work but it do not work. When I first started I lost alot of wgt. Now, I have been on it about a year now and I think that it has gotten use to my body. So I think I will take 1 in the AM qd and 1 in the PM qd. But then I might can not sleep so I am confused.

Confussed

AskDocWeb: Adipex is for short-term management of obesity, not long-term. When it stops working there is nothing you can do to make it start again. Taking more will only cause problems so ask your doctor for an alternative.

Subj: Fat Blocker?
Date: 8/2/2008
Is it ok to just take half of Adipex 37.2 or do you have to take full strenght to get results? And is this drug considered a Fat Blocker or just an aid to use along with dieting?

Donna

AskDocWeb: You get the best results by following the directions printed on the label. Adipex is not a fat blocker, it is an appetite suppressant.

Subj: Adipex and fertility
Date: 8/3/2008
Does this pill make you fertile?

Jerissalee

AskDocWeb: No, it doesn’t have any affect on fertility.

Subj: Sweating a lot and intense sex drive
Date: 8/3/2008
Love the pill. I’m too afraid to look at a scale, but friends and family say they can see a change after only a month. The only side effects I seem to have are sweating a lot and an intense sex drive, it is through the roof! Should I be worried?

Shannon

AskDocWeb: Several people have reported excessive sweating while taking Adipex. It is not a cause for concern nor is the intense sex drive.

Subj: Chances of becoming pregnant
Date: 8/4/2008
I recently quit taking adipex, which I was only on it for about 4 days. The day I quit we started trying to conceive. Can this effect chances of becoming pregnant whether taking it a short, or a long period of time?

Tina

AskDocWeb: Adipex has no effect on conception either way.

Subj: Chest pains
Date: 8/4/2008
Chest pains that come and go. I was really excited about taking this drug, I was on it for 2 weeks than all of the sudden I started experiencing chest pains. I have contacted my doctor who informed me to stop. Will this pain go away eventually? Thanks,

Pam

AskDocWeb: Yes, unless you had an undiscovered heart condition the chest pains should go away as the drug leaves your system, a few days.

Subj: Foods you should not eat?
Date: 8/5/2008
Can anyone who has taken Adipex tell me if there are certain foods you should not eat because of the side effects?

Rosetta

Subj: Pleased and plan to continue
Date: 8/10/2008
I began adipex about 2 weeks ago and have already lost 7 lbs. I have had no desire to over eat and no junk food cravings. I drink a tone of water The only real side effects that I have had is of course extreme dry mouth and a little bit of insomnia. I eventually do fall asleep but not as quick as before I started. Despite this I get up in the morning with no problems. This is a miracle drug for me. So far, I am pleased and plan to continue until I lose at least 50 lbs.

On the road to weight loss

Pamela

Subj: Has anyone stopped to consider?
Date: 8/12/2008
After reading so many comments about Adipex, I have to respond. So many people have described headaches, fatigue, irritability… blaming the medication. But has anyone stopped to consider maybe our bodies are going through withdrawal. I mean HELLO why are we taking this med??? What does it do??? YES! We want to lose weight and it suppresses our appetite! Therefore we aren’t putting all that crap (such as simple carbs) into our bodies which we are addicted to by the way, and when anyone quits anything whether smoking or eating, some are going to experience these withdrawal symptoms.
