Subj: SERIOUSLY trying to loose weight
Date: 9/23/2008
I just started Adipex this week. I am 175 and ideally would like to loose about 20-30 pounds. I have been eating healthy [steamed veggies and fish and fruits] and have been working out everday. About 3 days this week have gone to the gym and the other days have done about 30 minutes on the tredmill at home. I also have been drinking water like it is going out of style. The best advice I can give to anyone who is SERIOUSLY trying to loose weight is to remember that this isn’t a miracle pill… it is simply an appetite suppresant which will give you an extra boost. It will help you eat less and give you more energy but you can’t just rely on that. You absolutely have to change your lifestyle and keep active and eat right if you want to get results. Loosing weight isn’t always going to be fun- you have to be dedicated and you have to give up things that you like. If you are willing to be truly dedicated and make those sacrifices then you will absolutely succeed.

Subj: Second time
Date: 9/29/2008
I have taken Adipex before. This is my second time. I drink plenty of water. I eat healthy meals and work out. I need to lose 10lbs in a three weeks. I’m 5’5 145bs.. I always get down to 135 but I can never lose the other 10lbs would you know why?

Stacey

AskDocWeb: Either your activity level is too low or your calorie intake is too high. On the other hand your BMI is in the desirable range so you do not qualify for using this drug. Adipex is for the management of obesity and you are not obese.

Subj: Forcing myself to eat
Date: 10/4/2008
Hi. I just started using Adipex 37.5, today is my 4th day. My eating habit changed a lot, I am forcing myself to eat, I am also on a diet plan, I only eat healthy food, drink grape-fruit, no bread, no sweets, no soda. But, because I heard a lot about this pill that it makes you not wanna eat at all, I am just wondering, is it supposed to make you feel this way, or if you eat a little bit during the day is fine, you still could lose weight?

Fay

AskDocWeb: Adipex is an appetite suppressant which means you don’t get as hungry. That helps you eat less and reduce the number of calories in your diet. When the number of calories you eat drops below the number of calories you use in activity and exercise, you loose weight.

Subj: Multi vitamin?
Date: 10/9/2008
I just started adipex yesterday. Should I continue to take a multi vitamin while using adipex?

Jai

AskDocWeb: It is not required but then it will not hurt anything either. It is Xenical that typically requires a multi-vitamin supplement.

Subj: Chest pain
Date: 10/10/2008
I had been prescribed adipex right after my third child 4 months ago by my OB. He recommended it because I was upset about my weight gain. I was only 20 pounds overweight. I had never heard of it, or ever took a diet pill. Anyway, it really worked, I lost 8 pounds after 6 days. And then is when I started to develop some chest pain. It continued to come and go. I took it again the next day, it became severe. I looked info up on the computer, which I should of done before I took this pill, and I course discontinued it immediately. I never did call my doctor, which I should of but, since the chest pain comes and goes still over 3 months later especially with caffeine. I plan on seeing a doctor soon, because this is making me nervous. This long term chest pain, could it be a PE? Or are there other indications of chest pain from this medication? I really feel I was not overweight enough to take this pill. And am afraid I have done something irreversiable to my heart. I will never take another diet pill.

Melissa

AskDocWeb: Chest pain should never be ignored because it is the main symptom of a heart attack. It should be reported to your doctor immediately.

Subj: Wonder pill
Date: 10/14/2008
Wow, can’t believe someone lost 17 lbs in one week. Don’t know if I would want to lose that much in one week unless of course I was more than 100 lbs over weight, which she wasn’t. I have had great success with the diet pill overall. I gained more than 70 lbs with each of my kids. 10 days after having my daughter, I started Adipex and Curves and treadmill. I was back in my 6’s in just 3 months only to find out I was pregnant again…lol Promised myself I was NOT going to gain that much again, so I only gained 65. lol Started the same diet as before and today I am back in my 4’s like the day I got married and in better shape than I ever was before kids. This is the last month I will be taking Adipex. I pray that I can maintain what I have accomplished with this “wonder” pill.

Amber

AskDocWeb: Those who lose more than a pound a day seem to the most likely to gain it back again. When it comes to weight loss, the faster it goes, the easier it comes back.

Subj: It’s not working anymore
Date: 10/14/2008
I’ve been taking adipex for 1 month and only lost 6lbs. I don’t feel like it is working anymore what should I do?

Maricela

AskDocWeb: That means that it is time to go back to your doctor to reassess your situation and come up with alternatives.

Subj: Same as Adipex?
Date: 10/14/2008
I started taking phetermine today, is it the same as Adipex results wise?

MammaD

AskDocWeb: Yes it is.

Subj: Burning sensation in chest
Date: 10/15/2008
Can you take adipex with woman’s multivitamins daily? I have been taking adipex for a week now with multivitamin everyday and just 2 days ago I started having this burning sensation in chest, and cough.

Denise

AskDocWeb: Taking a daily multi-vitamin is fine. The burning sensation is not likely to have anything to do with the multi-vitamins but it is something that should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: Hair loss
Date: 10/18/2008
Just got finished reading several complaints from Adipex users that they experienced or are experiencing hair loss. Hair loss is not listed as a side effect, but it should be. It is quite obvious to me, as I watch my hair fall out each day, that hair loss is most definitely a side effect. Before using Adipex I had not hair loss issues. I am not willing to say if has been caused by the stress of weight loss. I have only lost 11 pounds and this diet is not stressful to me.

Subj: Adipex and nystatin
Date: 10/17/2008
I just started taking adepix, but I was recently diagnosed as for having oral thrush, because my allergy (Nasal spary) has steroids. Can I still take adepix with the nystatin? Or should I wait until the thrush is gone?

Keisha

AskDocWeb: We didn’t find any drug interactions between adipex and nystatin so as long as your doctor knows you are using both you should be okay.

Subj: Didn’t lose any
Date: 10/20/2008
Due to gaining 30 lbs. in 12 months (yay for menopause!), my doc started me on adipex three weeks ago. Didn’t lose any lbs. or inches. In fact, gained a few pounds, but had also doubled my Premarin, so might be water weight. Doc switched me to Bontril, which I’ve taken for two days now. Could only handle half of the 37.5 mg adipex; otherwise, couldn’t sleep (or eat) for two days. Still feel somewhat anxious with the Bontril. Anyone know the main differences between the two meds?

BJ

Subj: Edgy and short tempered
Date: 10/23/2008
I have been taking Adipex for about 8 weeks and it really seems to be helping. I have PCOS and it is very hard for me to lose weight even though I exercise 5 – 6 times a week and keep my daily calories between 1300 -1700. Since starting Adipex, I have lost 15 lbs. My only concern is that it seems like I get really edgy (short tempered) especially in the afternoon, and it’s getting worse. I’ve cut out the caffeine and sugar, but that hasn’t made a difference. I don’t want to stop taking Adipex, but I’m usually pretty easy going and don’t like to feel so hateful.

Subj: When should I weigh myself?
Date: 11/3/2008
I’ve been taking adipex for a little over a week. I am not sure if I’ve lost any weight but I feel a little lighter. I have been using the treadmill, elliptical and also walking for 30min to an hour at least 4 times a week. Is this enough exercise? When should I weigh myself?

Denise

AskDocWeb: It sounds like you are doing a great job with the exercise. If you weigh yourself once a week it is easy to divide by 7 to get your average daily weight loss.

Subj: I’m scared
Date: 11/6/2008
Hi everyone my name is Delma. My sister in law is taking this pill and she looks great and I want to start taking this pill cause I want to look pretty and wear pretty clothes but I’m scared that if I take and lose weight like I want and then stop taking it and gain and plus more. I weigh 286lbs now and want to weigh 160lbs. What is your advice to me should I try it or not?

Delma

AskDocWeb: Our advice is to get a physical and let your doctor decide the best way to accomplish your goal. The pill alone will not get you there. You have to change your eating habits and get into an exercise program to really make progress. The changes in your diet and level of activity are called lifestyle changes. That means you have to continue them after you stop taking the pill or the weight will come back.

Subj: Severe hot flashes
Date: 11/8/2008
I am on adipex currently and I have been getting severe hot flashes. Is this normal? I really like Adipex and now I’m not constantly looking for something to eat. I haven’t been on Adipex for a month yet, but I can’t wait to go the doctor to see what I’ve lost. Highly recommend.

Allison
AskDocWeb: Hot flashes are not on the official list of possible side effects but it has been reported before.

Subj: Taking generic Adipex
Date: 11/11/2008
I have been taking the generic form of adepix and this actually my second day. I was nervous at first since the doctors do tell you about the pro’s and con’s of the medication. The first day I experience and extreme burst of energy as well as sweating throughout my day. I can say that the affext of supressing the hunger is very true. It seems that the more you take the pills on a daily basis makes it harder for you to eat. I was irratated that I messed over a well prepared dinner that I couldnt eat. On the second day I did get a bit of dry mouth so water is very important. I currently weigh 200 pds but trying to find a way to balance exercise in juggling three kids under 5. One question would be what can I expect if I can’t factor exercise in? I would loose something right?

Margaux
AskDocWeb: It is possible to loose some weight just by taking the pills but that weight is likely to come right back when the pills are discontinued. You have to make the lifestyle changes (diet and exercises) in order to keep your weight under control.
