Subj: I Love adipex!
Date: 11/16/2008
I Love adipex! I tried for over a year to exercise, eat right, etc. but I kept gaining weight & inches. So I finally asked my doctor to put me on Phentermin/Adipex, but he’s only allowing me to stay on it for 3 months. I’ve been on it for just over a month now and have only lost 13 pounds, and I don’t feel any negative side effects besides dry mouth. This is the ONLY thing that has even remotely worked and not given me the jitters. I am 100 lbs overweight. How can I convince my doctor to keep me on it for more than 3 months?
Brandy
AskDocWeb: Congratulations on making progress. Your doctor will keep you on it only as long as he thinks it is safe and working effectively. Give it time and see how it goes.
Subj: Drug interactions?
Date: 11/26/2008
I’m am thinking about starting to use adipex. I am taking wellbutrin 450mg, and amitiza 24mcg. Can I take the adipex while on these other 2 medications?
Jennifer
AskDocWeb: We didn’t find any drug interactions between those three drugs, only a warning about the use of alcohol and products that contain alcohol while using Wellbutrin; it increases the risk of seizures. You’ll have to talk to your doctor to find out if Adipex may be appropriate choice for you.
Amitiza (lubiprostone) is used to treat chronic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C).
Subj: Alarming side effect
Date: 12/2/2008
I picked up taking Adipex again for the last three days (after taking about 3 weeks worth a month earlier. The side effects were the same on both occasions and I have officially tossed this drug away. The first side effect was an immediate headache, which, after taking a pill on Monday morning, still offers me a major headache on Tuesday morning. The next side effect is more alarming. I have restricted flow as I try to urinate. This morning, Tuesday, I am also experiencing pain within that area. I have also been told by another doctor that this drug can damage your heart to the point of no return. If the FDA recommends this drug to the public, they need to take a good long look at the damage it can do.

Subj: Prescribe adipex?
Date: 12/10/2008
If I weigh 188 pounds, I’m 5’3- Will a doctor prescribe adipex to me?
Elena
AskDocWeb: Since your BMI is 33 you do qualify but there are other health issues that need to be considered. You will need to be evaluated to be sure.
Subj: Blood pressure running high
Date: 12/14/2008
Hi This is my question about adipex. I took it for about a month. Great results lost about 14lbs felt great. On my next appointment I had pneumonia and couldn’t go to the Dr and they were booked so I was without the drug for about 3 weeks. My heart never raced when I was on it. I have ALWAYS ran a low blood pressure 90/60. I went to the Dr to get it on 12/11/08, my BP was 155/98 they said it was nothing to worry about and gave me 90 pills which I have not taken. I have been checking my BP at home it has been 153/111 to 121/88 at the lowest. Could it be running high because my body was used to the adipex and I ran out??? If I take one will it hurt me?
Tina
AskDocWeb: If your doctor prescribed Adipex for you then you should be okay. Adipex is known to elevate the blood pressure and it takes awhile after discontinuing for that to go back down.
Subj: How long
Date: 12/16/2008
I am about to begin taking adipex. I am trying to lose sixty pounds. I was wondering if you knew how long it takes for adipex to get out of your system: blood, urine, and hair. I have a drug test in eight months and don’t want any issues with it.
Jessica
AskDocWeb: It may take up to 2 weeks for the Adipex to completely leave your system. If you have a legitimate prescription for it then there shouldn’t be any problem.
Subj: BEST weight loss pill
Date: 12/23/2008
About Adipex…the BEST weight loss pill EVER!! A quick question though…I used to take 2 32.5 mg pills a day with my previous doctor now retired…with my new doctor she won’t prescribe 2…something about it being an excessive dose? Any info will help!
Terri
AskDocWeb: The dosage you get depends in part on your present condition and you may not need 2. Another possibility is that, since this drug is for short-term use, she may want you to get used to the reduced amount before weaning you off completely.
Subj: Really like Adipex
Date: 12/30/2008
I have been on adipex for a month and I have lost 20 lbs. The only side effects I have experienced is constipation, heartburn, and some restless nights. Overall I have really like adipex I have more energy and I seem happier. I have not been irriatable. My husband would have told me. The side effects are easy to deal with a little fiber and some pepcid and I feel fine. You get really thirsty on it as well but that is fine with me it makes me drink more water.

Subj: Long-term Adipex use
Date: 1/1/2009
My 51 yr-old ex-wife is a poster child for long-term Adipex use, probably 15 years. Over the years she has added Xenical and Topamax (she does get migraines) to her weight control aresenal. She stands and walks stiffly, has a hard time with tips, and has sagging skin. Of course, some of that comes with being 51. There really isn’t much I can do as she is a NP and her boyfriend is a MD. Shouldn’t they know better? What should we expect? Will she be around to see her grandkids?
Will
AskDocWeb: People in the field of medicine are more likely to know better but there are exceptions. You have to remember that medical professionals are still people and sometimes rationalize things just like everyone else.
Subj: How long does it take?
Date: 1/3/2009
I have a thyroid condition that has me gaining weight, I eat healthy, exercise, and still I am unable to lose the weight. Recently I was taken off of the Synthroid so that I can start the Adipex. It’s been two days and I haven’t had any change in appetite or energy. How long does it take for the medicine to start working?
Tonya
AskDocWeb: If there is no decrease in appetite within a week, you might check back with your doctor to find out if your dosage might need an adjustment.
Subj: Adipex truly works
Date: 1/8/2009
When I moved in with my boyfriend who is now my husband I weighed about 120. After 2 years of living with him I gained a whopping 40 lbs in just 2 years. I gained a lot of weight for my body type. I started to have really bad back pains and I couldn’t even walk my dogs because of the pain I had in my feet. I started to exercise and I lost 5 to 7 pounds in 2 and a half weeks. I worked out really hard, but it seemed I stopped to lose weight. I decided to go to my doctor and he prescribed me adepex. He mentioned to me that I would have to keep a food diary of everything I ate. He also told me that I should try and exercise at least for half an hour everyday even if it was a simple walk around the neighborhood.
I have been on adepex for 3 and a half weeks and I have lost about 22lbs. Adepex truly works. Many people think that by taking Adepex they will loose weight by just taking the pill. I’m sure in most cases people do loose weight by not exercising and just taking adepex. I decided to take advantage of the opportunity and exercise 30 min everyday. Every other day I would run 2 miles. I lift weights and work on my stomach by doing ab crunches. The only side effects I got were dry mouth and constipation. Adapex gave me so much energy and I truly can say because of adepex I have changed my eating habits and I enjoy working out.

Subj: Adipex does work but
Date: 1/12/2009
I have been using adipex for a little over two weeks now, and I’ve lost 8 lbs. I really didn’t believe that it would work, but it does. I too have experienced some restlessness as well as constipation, but once I started drinking more water, that was over. But I do find myself extremely thirsty. It seems like I can never get enough water!!!

Subj: Constipated
Date: 1/13/2009
I started taking the generic form of Adipex on New Years Day. The first week I lost 5 lbs, by the second week I was so constipated and gained 3lbs back I had to take laxatives for 3 days before I was able to have any relief? Is this normal and what can I do to prevent this from happening again? And I’m having a real hard time eating the recommended 1200 calories will that delay me from being able to lose the way I should be. Other wise dry mouth is my only side effect which is fine with me!!
Brandy
AskDocWeb: Constipation may occur when you first start taking Adipex but should go away as your body adjusts to the medicine.
Subj: Help me loose weigh
Date: 1/14/2009
I have been on adipex for only one month and I have only lost MAYBE 5 pounds. I was looking for some like super weight loss like everyone else is getting. I dont know maybe the second month will be better, that’s what I have been told. It does make me not as hungry. Some days I don’t eat cause I forget but I make myself eat at least 3 small meals a day. My boyfriend says it does make me a little bitchy, but that’s okay I’m female. Ha ha. Is there anyway to help me loose weight? I weigh about 200 pounds and I’m supposed to weigh 150, and it depresses me to not loose weight. It’s kind of hard when you’re also on depo.
Danielle
AskDocWeb: There may be a way to lose more weight but is it important enough for you to consider exercise? Even something as simple as a half-hour walk each day (preferably with someone) can help a lot.
Subj: Headaches went away
Date: 1/18/2009
This is my 3rd day of taking Adipex. I was at 146 the day I started and I am currently at 141. I take 1/2 dose around 7 am then the other half around noon. I drink water when I first wake up and all throughout the day. I also do either cardio at the gym everyday for at least an hour or walk 2 miles around my neighborhood. The only problems I have had with this pill have been a few headaches which started the second day but have now subsided and I stay awake until late at night. I have also noticed that I am quite the positive, happy person.

Subj: Horrified at the weight gain
Date: 1/21/2009
I started taking Adipex two years ago. At that time, I weighed around 150 and I’m 5’4″. Within two months, I had lost nearly 30 pounds. I was so happy at the time but realized that I was addicted and stopped taking it. Since then, I have gained 40 pounds. It’s like when you stop taking it, it’s such a dramatic change to your body that it just stores everything. My metabolism has dang near stopped and I’m only 22. Also, I have not been able to sleep since I started taking it and I haven’t been taking it for a year and a half. People always say, “Well, I’ll just use it to get down to my ideal weight and then keep it off.” WON’T HAPPEN. Once you get off it, you’ll be horrified at the weight you’ll gain. And you can’t just take it for the rest of your life. My advice, just diet and work out like the rest of us. I’ll never be the same.
Brianna
