Subj: Adipex for 12 days
Date: 3/3/2009
I have been on Adipex for 12 days. The only side effect I’ve experienced has been irritability. I find I’m a little easier to set off than usual, but it is controlable. When I feel it coming I just count to ten and calm myself. As for weight loss, I don’t think I’ve lost many pounds,(about 3 by my scale,) but I am losing inches. People are commenting on it and my clothes are getting too big. I have added excercise to my regimine. I’d like to see the numbers on the scale go down, but I am satisfied to see the numbers on the tags in my clothing falling. If I continue on will the scale numbers begin to fall?
Kristi
AskDocWeb: If you follow the complete instructions they will, that includes modifying your diet.
Subj: Constipation
Date: 3/5/2009
I started Adipex 3 weeks ago to this day, and I’ve lost 16 pounds. Dry mouth and constipation are the only side affects I have experienced so far. I quit smoking in September 07′ and gained a few pounds, I was larger anyways. So in September 08′ I started my diet (without Adipex) and lost 55 pounds but the last 2 months of my diet I didin’t loose, maybe a pound or two, so this was my next choice. I highly recommend this (I am no doctor), because hopefully I now know how to eat and exercise, so when I do quit the Adipex, I will not gain it back. Is there anything you recomend for the constipation?
moe
AskDocWeb: If there is no abdominal pain with the constipation you can probably treat it yourself by filling up on fiber. The nondigestible fiber found in whole-grain products, fruits, and vegetables works by giving your colon the signal to contract. If you eat 5, one-ounce servings of fruits and vegetables a day then you should have more than enough fiber in your diet to prevent constipation. Remember that exercise and drinking plenty of fluids also helps in this area.
Subj: My story is different
Date: 3/6/2009
Unlike everyone else, my story is different, I took about two weeks worth of phentermine the generic brand about 2 years ago I was 164 and got down to 142. This time around however I’m taking Adipex today is my 7th day and I’m not losing weight in fact I GAINED A POUND. I’m always hungry and sleepy. What does this mean?
Kimberly
AskDocWeb: It could mean several things, you may not have started exercising enough, changed your eating habits, or it may be that it just doesn’t work for you. It sounds like it is time to check back with your doctor.
Subj: Adipex and seroquel?
Date: 3/9/2009
I just started taking adipex. No problems, but this is only the first day. I have not experienced any energy burst. No mood swings, I feel calm but not sleepy. Can I take seroquel 100mg. for sleep at night?
tabitha
AskDocWeb: Adipex and seroquel have a moderate potential for a severe drug interaction. Please discuss this with your doctor.
Subj: How long will it work?
Date: 3/11/2009
I have been on Adipex for 4 weeks and lost 19lbs this is with exercise each night and 1500 calorie diet. I want to know how long will it work for me I have 60 more lbs to go and I am really trying hard to get there. But I have heard it stops working after a couple of months. Please let me know. Thank you,
Sam
AskDocWeb: Like most appetite suppressants it does lose effectiveness over time. For some that may be two months, for others it may work for several months.
Subj: Painful pimples
Date: 3/19/2009
I have been on adipex for about a month now. One thing I have noticed since I’ve taking it, is that I have been getting painful little pimples on the edges of my nostrils. I have never had consistant breakouts such as these before. Could this be a side effect of using Adipex? I also had a follow-up appointment with my doctor after using it for a month. I have noticed a heaviness on my chest and a dull pain in my chest over the heart region. I have also experienced anxiety, although, only 2-3 times with shortness of breath. I know these symptoms are associated with Adipex. My doctor did an EKG and drew blood, testing my enzyms for a heart attack. All came back normal. Should I discontinue use?
Sherri
AskDocWeb: Several people have reported more acne breakouts than normal while using Adipex. The decision to quit or continue should be made with your doctor’s help.
Subj: Hair loss?
Date: 3/22/2009
I also believe that Adipex could have caused hair loss for me. Have there been any tests to confirm if Adipex may be a cause of hair loss?
Ryan
AskDocWeb: As of today there have been no tests confirming or denying that Adipex causes hair loss. There are, however, a growing number of reports from users about this.
Subj: Where can I get them?
Date: 3/31/2009
Where can I get them? I’d like to see a doctor…and the ones on the computer the real ones. I love in Massachusetts.
linda
AskDocWeb: Once you get a prescription from your doctor you can get Adipex at your local drugstore.
Subj: Blood pressure too high?
Date: 4/2/2009
I am interested in trying Adipex to lose 40 pounds. My blood pressure is 140/88. Is my BP too high?
Sally
AskDocWeb: Normal blood pressure ranges between 100/60 and 140/90 so you are on the high side of normal but still in the normal rang. Adipex stimulates the central nervous system and elevates of blood pressure so you may need to be closely monitored. Although the use of Adipex is not recommended if you have a history of high blood pressure, that is not the only safety concern so consult with your doctor to be sure.
Subj: Concern about gaining weight back
Date: 4/2/2009
My doctor prescribed Adipex to me today, 37.5mg once a day. I have already implemented a lifestyle change two weeks ago. I now exercise everyday, I have joined WeightWatchers and really watch what I eat. I have read many stories here where people stopped taking the Adipex and gained all their weight back. I only want to lose 30lbs and have lost 5 in two weeks with lifestyle change. I am taking Adipex to give me an initial boost. Was the weight gain because of not taking the Adipex or not adopting a healthier lifestyle?
Kimberly
AskDocWeb: The people who don’t adopt a healthier lifestyle by making changes in their diet and activity level almost always gain the weight back.
Subj: Taking Adipex
Date: 4/5/2009
I have been on Adipex for about 2 months now. I began with the brand named Adipex for the first month, then for the second month, I told my doctor that I was still waking up hungry around 2 in the morning. He suggested the phentermine 30. something mg in the capsule as he said these have a slower on set, but last longer, and he prescribed some ambien generic (which didn’t work to keep me sleep, but that’s okay). I have lost about 10 pounds thus far, but that’s without any exercise. I do plan to start walking at least one mile each day as my loss has come to a halt. I do wonder however if, it’s okay to continue taking adipex for a long period of time. If not, how long should you take it before trying to wean off of it? And if you want to start back, will it work afterwards. I saw somewhere in this that it wears out of your system within 2 weeks or so, so should you quit for at least 2 weeks before starting back on them? Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. And was what my Dr. suggested okay. I haven’t seen the brand name adipex in the dosage he gave me in the capsules (yellow) nor have heard about a longer acting adipex. Oh and is there any circumstance that actually warrants taking the 30 or more mg dose more than once a day?
I guess its working….
AskDocWeb: Adipex is a brand name for Phentermine, not the other way around. Once your body builds up a tolerance for the drug, changing to an alternative is often more effective than just taking a break and trying it again. If you don’t make the necessary lifestyle changes to your diet and activity level then it is likely you will gain back any weight that you lose.
Subj: Depression and anxiety
Date: 4/6/2009
I was on adipex for 2 months, I lost 50 Pd huge difference. But you have to put up with the crap it gives you. Depression and anxiety and when you stop taking it your face breaks out. But it is worth being 50 Pd lighter. One more thing I only gained 5 Pd back. I’m on it for a 2nd time and it doesn’t seem to be working as well. My Dr recommended cutting it in half to reduce anxeity. Good luck,
Jessica
Subj: AWESOME results but…
Date: 4/9/2009
I took Adipex in 1992 short term(maybe 6 months) with AWESOME results. I lost 100 lbs that year. Of course that was short lived. Years later I slowly gained weight and decided to use it again in 1995. The Doctor doubled my dose to 2 pills every AM. I took this for 12 months. Has anyone ever inquired about the LONG TERM effects of Adipex? In March of 2006 I was Diagnosed with Severe Primary Pulmonary Hypertention and given a grave prognosis. I struggle every day to try and live a normal life. I KNOW deep in my heart it was the Adipex that caused this illness. It wasn’t worth taking. I’d rather be a little over weight living life large, then to stare death in the face day after day. BE CAUTIOUS, please!

Subj: Headaches
Date: 4/9/2009
I have been taking adipex for about 3 days now and I do experience headaches, and also the desire to smoke cigarettes.

Subj: Extremely tired all the time
Date: 4/11/2009
I have been using Adipex for 5 days. I am 5’10 and weigh 265 lbs. My doctor did not want to prescribe this medicine, but I begged him too. I have absolutely no appetite and have to force myself to eat a few bites of food. I am extremely tired all the time, have trouble sleeping and have constant dry mouth. I was really hoping to develop an exercise program, but I am so tired all the time, I have not been able to exercise. I can tell that my stomach has decreased, but I do not have scales. I go back to the doctor in 2 weeks.

Subj: First script for adipex
Date: 4/13/2009
I just got my first script for adipex and I am excited to start. My doc only prescribed my a 30day supply. They are 37.5mg so I was thinking about taking 1/2 per day to streach it out to a 60 day supply. Will it be enough to still work?
KC
AskDocWeb: For the best results always follow the instructions.
Subj: Thyroid problem
Date: 4/22/2009
I have a thyroid problem and am on meds for but need to lose weight do u think Apidexin could help?
Sarah
AskDocWeb: The use of Adipex is not recommended if you have a history of hyperthyroidism.
Subj: Chest pain?
Date: 4/23/2009
I just started taking this medication and was curious if anyone else had experienced chest pain. It only hurts a little bit if I breathe in. I guess it could be chest congestion. Just curious what others thought.
