Subj: 3 months on and 3 off?
Date: 5/28/2009
Why do some doctors only allow you to take adipex for 3 months on and 3 off?
Donna
AskDocWeb: This goes back to one of the basic problems with diet pills, the body has a tendency to build up a tolerance to the drug and it stops working. Taking some time off delays the build up of tolerance and extends the amount of time that these drugs may be used.
Subj: Food lover
Date: 5/28/2009
Today makes day 5 on adipex for me. From the very first day I have lost all appetite, and I’m just taking half a pill. I’m a food lover but makes me want to turn away from it. Bad side is I cant sleep much at night, its like I’m very very lighty sleeping, hour on hour… not nervous but in a constant rush…has its good and bad.

Subj: Need to loose weight
Date: 5/30/2009
Hi! my name is Ndia and I’m from New Orleans. I’m 15 and I’m way over obesity I’m 260 and 5’7, and my mentor at church used adipex and she told me that I should use it she lost 54lbs in a month. I have really been concerned about my weight since Katrina. Is this a good idea? I reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy need to loose this weight.
Ndia
AskDocWeb: In order to find out if it would be a good idea or not you need to consult with your health care provider. Your doctor will evaluate your medical history, current condition, and all the pros and cons. If the known benefits are greater than the possible risks then it would be a good idea.
Subj: Stomach pain
Date: 6/1/2009
I was on Adipex for 4 days last week and loved it. I started having stomach ‘pain’ Thursday…even sensitive to the touch – a little higher than my belly button. I am comfotable if I am sitting still – but it is bothersome even if I am up and moving around. It has persisted even though I did not take the Adipex on Saturday or Sunday. IF it was Adipex related should the pain have gone away? I am hoping it’s not related at all – because I really loved the Adpiex otherwise. Have you had other reports of stomach discomfort/pain/bloating or tenderness? Thank you,
Christa
P.S. I feel like my symptoms are similar to those of Kelly who posted on 2/11/09…although I do not think that I am constipated. Have you had many other reports of stomach ‘pain’?
AskDocWeb: Stomach cramps and stomachaches have been reported, sometimes accompanied by sour stomach or nausea. These symptoms should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: Dizzy spells and menstrual problems
Date: 6/2/2009
I took adipex for over a month. I loved it, but I started having horrible dizzy spells. My menstral cycle lasted almost the entire time I was on it. Therefore, I had to stop the Adipex. Now I have once again joined Weight Watchers. I can’t get any weight off and I have been sticking to the program faithfully for 3 weeks now. I am convinced that the Adipex has slowed my metabolism. I wish I had never started taking it.

Subj: Irritable and depressed
Date: 6/4/2009
I have been on Adipex-p for about a year and a half. I have lost 50 pounds. I had taken the pill about 10 years ago and lost 85 pounds only to gain it back in a period of 5 years. I noticed then I was very irritable and depressed when on the pill. I am noticing it again this time. I am irritated by everything. When coming off the drug before I really felt as if I was losing my mind. I feel that way on it now. I have to say it is a miracle drug and is very effective for me as far as weight loss. But I do feel as if it is greatly effecting both my professional and personal life, just very hard to give up. Can the side effects be this severe as far as my mental state. Thanks,
Goldie
AskDocWeb: Irritability is listed as one of the possible side effects that should go away after the first few days. Depression, on the other hand, is listed as one of the signs of an overdose. This should be discussed fully with your doctor.
Subj: Freaking Out!
Date: 6/6/2009
I stopped taking adipex after five days. The side affects were terrible. Can a person have permenant damage from five pills? I have been off for three days. Will these feelings of nervousness and depresion go away? How long does it take for five pills to get out of my system? I wouldn’t recommend these pills to anyone. Freaking Out!
Shela
AskDocWeb: Permanent damage from five pills is highly unlikely but it may take up to 2 weeks to get the Adipex completely out of your system.
Subj: Adipex and prozac together?
Date: 6/10/2009
I sufferer with depression and was recently prescribed prozac by my dr. and I am feeling much better other than I have no energy. I have tried adipex before and loved it. I am never jittery and do really well on it except for the irritability. My question is can I take adipex and prozac together? If not what could I do for an energy boost?
Erin
AskDocWeb: We didn’t find any interactions between the two drugs but our database may not include every interaction that is known. As long as your doctor knows about the prozac then it should be safe for you.
Subj: Desperately want to maintain my weight
Date: 6/13/2009
I originally started on Adipex, I weighed in at a hefty 238 lbs. I made monthly visits to my doctor and he continued to give me prescriptions. I worked out at a local gym for approx 1 hr a day for at least 4 days a week. Over the next 5 1/2 months, I dropped my weight down to 185 and went from a 38 pants size to a 32! I thought it was GREAT!!! I looked and felt better than I had in years! Then I got weaned myself off the adipex and immediately noticed a dramatic increase in appetite. That was approx 2 months ago. Since then, I have managed to continue working out but I have started gaining a little weight back. I am now back up to 193 despite attempts to watch what I eat and exercise.
I desperately want to maintain my weight and stay slim but I do not want to depend on a drug to do it! I will continue to exercise and watch my diet but it does get discouraging when I step on the scales and see a pound add on or put on a pair of size 32 pants that fit comfortably are now feeling a little bit snug most days. I will post again in a month or so from now to update this posting and let everyone know how it’s working out. If I continue to gain weight, I may end up getting back on adipex for a couple of more months to drop the weight that I have gained. Unless there is something out there that could be used as an alternative for weight control. Any suggestions? Thanks and good luck to everyone else out there that is thinking about using Adipex.

Subj: Does adipex contain caffeine?
Date: 6/15/2009
Does adipex contain caffeine?
Nicole
AskDocWeb: No, there is no caffeine in Adipex although it does stimulate your hypothalamus gland which may produce restlessness, nervousness, or difficulty sleeping.
Subj: I am a smoker
Date: 6/17/2009
A friend of mine lost over 100lbs with adipex. I had lost touch with her for almost ten years before she had lost the weight she was 310lbs. In highschool we were both big so I am so proud of her. Now at 276 I am going to try the adipex. But my question is this. I am a smoker and I would like to know is it safe to smoke about a half a pack a day and take this medication? I can cut down a bit but I know that I won’t be able to quit altogether. Thanks so much!
Amanda
AskDocWeb: There are no counterindications listed about smoking in the information for Adipex but you will have to check with your doctor to find out if Adipex is an appropriate choice for you.
Subj: Yeah adipex!
Date: 6/17/2009
When I was 150lbs at 5′ tall I tried adipex and lost 30lbs…then I lost my husband and became a widow at 25, in which I gained it back plus 20lbs, in a course of 3 years…but I got back on it and so far I have lost 14lbs in a month…I don’t know of any side effects…except the first time I had alot of energy and dry month…but this time just burst here and there…but I think it works fine…yeah adipex!
Patricia
Subj: No period
Date: 6/20/2009
I have been on adipex for 1 month and I have not came on my period. I took a prego test and it said I wasnt pregnant do you think this is a side effect.
Veronica
AskDocWeb: Although changes in menstruation are not listed among the possible side effects of Adipex there are several reports of that.
Subj: On adipex for 3 weeks
Date: 6/20/2009
I have been on adipex for 3 weeks and I cant tell that I’m losing weight becuz when I look in the mirror my face and stuff still look the same but at the same time I feel a whole lot better and it seems like my pants and other clothes are fitting better. I have not been eating sweet’s and I don’t drink soda’s no juice and no snacks. I have also been working out about 3 days a week becuz before I started taking adipex I couldn’t walk much or do anything really. How long do you think it should take me to see some results in my weight?
Veronica
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you may already be seeing some of the results. Keep up the good work and you should see even more benefits in the coming weeks.
Subj: Hair loss
Date: 6/22/2009
I have been using Adipex for the past three months and I have lost almost 30lbs. I have noticed my hair falling out and was wondering if it is a side effect of the drug? If so what should be my best solution. I do not want to come stop using it, but I my hair is thinning and I am afraid of bald spots. Do you have any suggestions?
Steph
AskDocWeb: Hair loss is not listed as a side effect of Adipex. You might take a look at a shampoo that supports hair growth and fights hair loss, something like Nisim Biofactors.
Subj: Adipex really helps hunger and cravings
Date: 6/30/2009
I used for about 3 weeks and lost 15 pounds. After three weeks I stopped losing though so I took a 2 week break from the pill and have just today started back on it again. Pros: it really helps hunger and cravings, gives me crazy energy so I can work out better Cons: I can’t sleep, the most I sleep a night is 4 hours. When I first took it it made me really dizzy and when I got off it for that 2 week period my mood was horrible.
Brandy
Subj: Awesome results
Date: 7/1/2009
I have been on adipex for about 3 weeks now, and have had awesome results from it, other then the headaches from time to time, which are pretty rough, is that normal? Sometimes I do not have them at all. I have lost 15lbs in 3 weeks, but I have also been walking my neighborhood 3 to 4 days a week. I have been trying to get the weight off from my daughter I had a year ago, and finally I am making some headway! I have about 20 or so more to go, but I am glad I found something that curbs my appetite, and helps me exercise!
Jessica
AskDocWeb: Headaches are not normal and not listed as a side effect so you may want to check with your doctor on that.
Subj: Adipex capsules
Date: 7/7/2009
Hello, I recently had the lapband surgery. I still want to take my adipex pills, but they changed from the pill to a capsule. Can I open the adipex capsule and mix it in water and take it?
Floyd
AskDocWeb: No, the capsules are designed to allow the release of Adipex over time. Do not crush, chew, break, or open the capsules.
