Subj: Tanning?
Date: 11/12/2009
Is it safe to tan while taking the weight loss drug, adipex?

Trisha

AskDocWeb: Do you mean aside from the possibility of skin cancer caused by tanning? If so, there are no reports of tanning having any effect on any diet pill.

Subj: Vomiting
Date: 11/12/2009
I’ve taken adipex b4 and had no problems. This afternoon I took a pill and I was throwing up by 8pm. Why is that?

Tiffany

AskDocWeb: Vomiting is one of the signs of an overdose so contact your doctor. Your dosage may need to be adjusted.

Subj: Prozac with Adipex?
Date: 11/17/2009
I just started taking a 10mg prozac, and I also want to take adipex for about a month just want to lose about 15 pds. Had alot of success in the past with it. So is it ok to take both together?

Brenda

AskDocWeb: Our sources say to avoid using Adipex within 14 days of using an anti-depressant. If you need help losing weight, talk to your doctor about this because there are alternatives.

Subj: I look the same
Date: 11/18/2009
Help!! I have been on Adipex now for 3 days and I lost 7lbs, but I look in the mirror and I look the same. Will the inches follow soon? Or what’s going on??? I was at 149 now I’m at 142.

Gaby

AskDocWeb: Of course results will vary for everyone but it sounds like you are making good progress. If your goal is to take off inches then use a tape measure rather than looking in the mirror to judge your results.

Subj: Lost 30lbs
Date: 11/18/2009
Adiphex is a great way to lose weight when you are in the right frame of mind and want to jump start your labido. Don’t think that it work by itself you need to drink plenty of water and listen to what your body is telling you. I have not been to the gym since taking this and have lost 30lbs in total, I know it is not long term and when I stop I can usually cope for a few weeks and than I get sweet cravings but once I take it again I am ready to go:) This pill takes away starch and sweet cravings all you need to do the rest. Eating frequent little meals and lots of water. One of these days I will get to the gym!

Subj: Fourth day on Adipex
Date: 11/20/2009
Today is my fourth day on Adipex…just wondering how many days before others noticed weight loss? 5? 10? It definitely has curbed my appetite and combined with the meal plan/reduced calorie intake my doctor recommended I am eating much healthier than I was. I am a 37 year old woman, 5’8″, 260lbs. I need to integrate physical activity. Luckily have not had any major side effects although did have an euphoric like feeling the first 48 hours.

Subj: Tolerance to Adipex
Date: 11/22/2009
I have been taking adipex for a while now. I seem to have a tolerance to it. If I discontinue it for a few months and then start again will it work the same for me? Kinda give me a jump start?

Terry

AskDocWeb: Your body may be able to recover some ability to respond to the medication but the drug is unlikely to work as well as it did originally.

Subj: 31 stitches to the forehead
Date: 11/23/2009
My mom had been taking Ambien for 11 months. I had suspected she was sleepwalking because she exhibited strange behavior when my kids and I went to spend the night at her home. She would not sleep, in fact she would wander around the house, eat, and in times of stress, for instance when my step-father was ill, she even had hallucinations. Mainly in the form of seeing shadows of children or people who weren’t there.

Just a few days ago, after taking Ambien around 10:00pm, she arose, disarmed her burglar alarm, took her pajama top off, went two houses down, and tripped and fell on her face without using her hands to stop her fall. She took 31 stitches to the forehead. The paramedics said she was hallucinating when they arrived, obviously still in a sleeplike state, and they asked us if she had any illnesses. She does not and so after a complete hospital work up with tests to determine any brain trauma, it was determined she was sleep walking due to the Ambien. She has continued to see things even though it’s been almost a week since she has taken the drug but that is getting better. Someone is going to die on this drug and something needs to be done.

Subj: Adipex saved my life
Date: 12/2/2009
Adipex has saved my life. Since I have been taking adipex over the last three months, I have lost 23 lbs. I have no desire to eat and tons of energy. Several people have mentioned the price. However, I was prescribed this from my family doctor, and my insurance covers all but $23. This pill has enabled me to change my eating habits by allowing me to eat less and discover healthy foods. The energy has helped me to develop physical activity routines that I don’t dread. I have experienced no side effects other than a slight headache at night. But that is usually one days I haven’t eaten enough.

Subj: Trying to conceive
Date: 12/4/2009
Would adipex interfere with my wife and I trying to conceive a baby? Would it affect the baby/fetus if I take it while trying to get pregnant, me of course not my wife. She takes nothing but the vitamins given by her doctor.

Robert

AskDocWeb: Adipex has no affect on conception.

Subj: Not working at all
Date: 12/11/2009
Hi. I am about 30 lbs overweight and very depressed about it. I am currently taking (as prescribed) Wellbutrin and Zoloft. About nine months ago my doctor prescribed Adipex-P and it worked like a charm. I did very well for about two months. Recently, my doctor re-prescribed Adipex-P again and I do not feel like it is working, at all. When it took it last time I had almost no appetite. This time I feel exactly like I normally do. I should add that in both instances I used the generic form, as my insurance does not like to cover these types of prescriptions. I am so frustrated and would love some feedback or advice on how to proceed. (Also note that I was on the antidepressants the first time I used the generic Adipex as well.). Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

Jane

AskDocWeb: Diet drug often don’t work as well the second time around. It appears that the body develops a tolerance for them within a few months and they start losing effectiveness. For advice ask a doctor.Ad
Subj: Impossible to fall asleep
Date: 12/13/2009
Adipex makes it impossible for me to fall asleep, I’m getting off this pill. How long does it take to get out of your system if you have only taken 4 pills?

Joe

AskDocWeb: The stimulating effect of Adipex is not likely to last more than a couple of days after discontinuing.

Subj: I went from size 10 to size 2 in 6 months
Date: 12/15/2009
My doctor perscribed Adipex for me 7 months ago because I was getting married and I wanted to loose some weight. I lost 40 pounds in 6 months on the drug and I felt amazing!!!! Aside from the occasional dry mouth, I did not have any other side affects. I went from a size 10 to a size 2 in 6 months and I really really felt wonderful. I have been off of the drug for about a week and I am miserable! I cannot stop eating and I have no energy. I have been caving candy, bread and all kinds of foods that I would never touch while I was on the drug. I am considering taking the drug again (perhaps a smaller dose) so that I can manage my cravings and maintain the weight that I lost. I really do not want to gain it all back but I am having a hard time controlling myself. Any advice?

Marta

AskDocWeb: The lack of energy should not last more than a few more days. It takes your body awhile to adjust to the lack of stimulation that was provided by the drug. In order to keep the weight off you need to maintain healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle. Hopefully you can find something helpful on the Conquer Cravings page to help control yourself.

Subj: Poor circulation and night sweats
Date: 12/17/2009
I used this website a lot when deciding to being taking Bontril and left a message on that board a few days after taking it. Since then, my doctor has upped my ‘diet’ to Apidex. I started at 159 pounds with a height of 5’8” and I am now at 139 with 1.5 months to go. This last month he actually upped it again so now I am taking two apidex per day. Because over the last few month I have only lost about 4 more pounds. I am very happy with the weight loss, however I am ready to be finished. I am never hungry and never have an appetite. I can feel when I need food, which is usually only about once a day. The only really noticable side effect I have seems to be with circulation. I will get very cold, especially in my hands and feet. Then, as I sleep, I get VERY hot. Sometimes to the point that I’m sweating in my 65 degree house. Also, lately I have noticed that if I am sitting for an hour or so with my legs bent or crossed and then stand up, I have this strange pain all over my legs. It feels like little pin pricks all over. Is this something I should be worried about? My other question is, should I be eating even if I’m not hungry? My doctor says no, but I am beginning not to trust that opinion. I am at the very low end of BMI and I don’t really think I should only be eating a tiny bit a day. Thanks!

Heather

AskDocWeb: Since your current BMI is in the desirable range, we wonder why you are taking a diet drug. The pin-prick sensation in your legs may be a sign that your legs have “gone to sleep” from lack of circulation. You might take that as a warning to avoid sitting in that position for so long a period of time. That tingling sensation may also be a sign of peripheral neuropathy. Getting very hot while you sleep is sometimes referred to as night sweats. Although night sweats are typically not a sign of a medical problem, it is something you should discuss with your doctor.

Subj: Headaches and insomnia
Date: 12/19/2009
I’ve only been taking Adipex for 2 days. I’ve experienced severe headaches, nausea, and I haven’t slept in 2 days/nights. I’m experiencing a positive reaction in my energy and eating habits. I’m hoping that I don’t need to stop taking Adipex because I am able to exercise and eat properly while taking it. My question is will the headaches and insomnia subside?

Shelly

AskDocWeb: Please check with your doctor because nausea is one of the signs of an overdose.

Subj: Am I a candidate for Adipex?
Date: 12/22/2009
Hello AskDocWeb, I have been struggling with my weight for 5 years. I am 5’8 and exercise around 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. Before I began this exercise regimen, I weighed almost 200 lbs and 2 years ago I managed to drop my weight to 170 and it now hovers around 172 despite my efforts. I am 18 years old and my BMI is over 26. Am I a qualified candidate for Adipex? Is my age held against me?

Marie

AskDocWeb: Your age is not held against you but there are other considerations besides BMI. Only your doctor can say if it would be appropriate for you or not.
