Subj: Vitamin supplements?
Date: 2/1/2010
I have been taking adipex. I have just kicked the smoking habit. I am losing weight on the pill, but I am concerned about the dryness I have. My skin is dry and I am always thirsty. I feel light headed. Am I not eating enough. What kind of vitamin supplements should I use?
Leslie
AskDocWeb: To ensure adequate nutrition, you may want to take a multivitamin that contains vitamins D, E, K, and beta-carotene.
Subj: 30lbs overweight
Date: 2/15/2010
I take 1. a pill everyday and it seems to work for only a few hours and then my hunger returns. I have been on Adipex for 2 weeks. Am I building up a tolerance? Do I need to up my dose to 1 time a day? I have only lost 5lbs and I work out intensely for 1 hour a day and drink lots of water-I am 30lbs overweight.
Brie
AskDocWeb: It seems unlikely that you would build up a tolerance in only 2 weeks. It is more likely to take 2 or 3 months. If it isn’t working to your satisfaction, you could check back with your doctor. You might want to do that anyway because changing your daily dosage is something that should only be done with your doctor’s approval.
Subj: Rate of weight loss
Date: 2/17/2010
Been on adipex for 3 days now. lost 7 pounds. does this rate of weight loss continue? or does it taper off?
Payton
AskDocWeb: Typically the body loses the easy pounds first and that can happen fairly quickly. After that the weight loss slows down.
Subj: Spotting
Date: 2/20/2010
Ive just started taking the adepix b12 and lypotropix shots. Ive noticed that ive been spotting since taking the pills and the shots, is this normal?
Mmd12
AskDocWeb: Spotting is certainly not a typical reaction but there have been a few reports by those taking Adipex. The most common causes of spotting are bladder infection, pregnancy, and chlamydia. Any one of these is reason enough to check with your doctor.
Lipotropic compounds aid in the breakdown of fat in the liver, help detoxify metabolic wastes and toxins, and may be used to help with weight loss. The beneficial effects of lipotropic compounds are:
- Detoxify waste byproducts of protein synthesis.
- Increase production of lecithin in the liver, which can lower cholesterol levels.
- Increase resistance to disease by stimulating the thymus gland.
- Help prevent gallstone formation.
- Help prevent plaque deposits in arteries.
- Help protect against diabetic neuropathy, a condition that may affect the cranial and spinal nerves, as well as the nerves in the bladder and bowel.
Examples of lipotropics are Choline (the major lipotrope in mammals), Betaine hydrochloride, Methionine, and Inositol.
The possible side effects of using lipotropics are nausea, vomiting, fishy odor, diarrhea, stomach discomfort and uncontrollable urination. If you experience any of these side effects consult your doctor.

Subj: Adipex during pregnancy?
Date: 2/22/2010
I have taken adipex on and off for ten years. I have an incredibly high tolerance to medication. I actually take two per day. I recently found out I am 14 weeks pregnant. I took three pregnancy tests during this period of over three months. All of which were spaced out from a week after conception to a month in and then a couple of months in. Finally a blood test showed that I was pregant last week. I am extremly concerned about the effect this could have on a developing fetus. I understand that not enough tests have been conducted to have conclusive results. I am aware that adipex is the equivalent to pharmasutical speed. I am not a cocaine user, but since that is considered speed and tests have shown internal bleeding due to use of that drug, I have only had that to draw a comparison to. Adipex is not a new drug! There has to be many past pregnant women that have asked this very question. What have the outcomes been of the other woman that unknowningly used Adipex during pregancy? Why have the makers of this medication turned there backs on a very serious study? This is a very profitable drug. It is not covered by insurance and the brand name is is commonly requested. The makers of Adipex and depending on the owners of the generic have to be turning a very large profit. I would love to know why a pregancy study is not readily available at this time.

Subj: Chronic fatigue
Date: 2/23/2010
I have gone to a weight loss clinic that has prescribed phentermine 30mg black in the AM and phendimetrazie 35mg @4PM. Now after taking adipex 35mg for 2 years with no weight loss. When I tried to stop taking adipex I felt as if I could not function. I feel as if I have chronic fatigue. I have gone to my Dr. and all tests are normal except for high bp, hair loss and lack of vitamin d. How do I stop taking these meds and have enough energy to function throughout the day?
Carla
AskDocWeb: The safest way would be to talk to your doctor and with his or her help, come up with a plan specifically for your situation.
Subj: Water in your body
Date: 2/25/2010
I have been taking Adipex for 6 days now and the first day I had a horrible headache and also the sencond day. I have to eat 1200 calories per day but really i am skipping lunch because i am not hungry. I haven’t weight myself. I am 227 pounds. But lately i have been hungrier at night and my mouth full of saliva most part of the day…is that normal? Also i have been drinking lots of water i am afraid I am going to retain the water. Is there in way to get rid of the water in your body. Or just don’t drink to much?
Carolin
AskDocWeb: Headaches are often caused by not drinking enough water, which is common if a patient thinks that they are drinking too much. Please talk to your doctor about your symptoms.
Subj: Hair loss
Date: 2/28/2010
I have been on Adipex for about a week. Have lost 4 lbs. I guess I have the usual side effects but I have been reading alot about hair loss with this. Is this a side effect and if so how common? I only take half of 37.5.
Stephanie
AskDocWeb: The 2010 Physician’s Desk Reference does not list hair loss as one of the possible side effects of Adipex but there have been a couple of posts about that. If it were a rare side effect then it would occur in less than one percent of users.

Subj: Adipex symptoms
Date: 3/13/2010
I just started taking the adipex brand today. I do have an increased heart rate but no jitteriness or chest pain. My blood pressure actually is on the lower side. I have sour stomach and cold feet and hands as well. I have the euphoria though, which makes me feel sleepy. Anyone else have these symptoms and have been on the medication for while that can give me some feedback please?
Sheila
Subj: Trouble sleeping
Date: 3/14/2010
I am having a lot of trouble sleeping on adipex. The energy is great but very hard to sleep. Any ideas, tips or suggestions on getting better sleep on this pill?
Lori
AskDocWeb: Difficulty sleeping is listed as one of the possible side effects that may go away with continued use. If it doesn’t, check with your doctor.
Subj: Help getting to sleep
Date: 3/16/2010
i think Adipex is wonderful. It has definitely curbed my appetite but I cannot sleep at night. I’ve tried breaking it in half but don’t sleep with that either. I take it as early as I can. Is there anything that can help? Thanks,
Kim
AskDocWeb: Some people have found that taking a hot bath before bedtime helps a lot. Other things reported to help with sleep are Valerian root, Tylenol PM, melatonin, and strangely enough, a banana helps some people get to sleep.
Subj: Adipex and Dilantin?
Date: 3/16/2010
Does adipex affect dilantin. i am considering trying adipex as I need to lose a lot of weight. Will it affect my dilantin?
Sherri
AskDocWeb: There are no drug interactions listed between Adipex and Dilantin but that doesn’t mean that it would be safe for you to use Adipex. Your doctor will have to weigh the known benefits against the possible risks to decide if it would be a good choice for you or not.
Subj: I have lost 30 pounds…but
Date: 3/20/2010
I have been takein adipex since december 8th 2009 its been really helpful in my weight lose. I have lost 30 pounds since…but I recently started havein severe pain in what I think is in my right kidney only. I worried cause I really want to use this product but it hurts and scares me that it may be doing damage to my kidney. I searched the internet several times and can’t find anyone else taking adipex with same problem. I know for a fact it’s the medicine because it hurts right after take it. I also wonder if its dehydration because I no longer have the craving for water I had when I first started taking it. I know you are supposed to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day and I’m not even close because I’ve never been a water drinker. Can anyone please help and give me any advise? Thank you!
Shannon
Subj: Adipex is working
Date: 3/20/2010
I have struggled with my weight for years. Here lately I started wearing scrub pants and t-shirts on the weekend…even when I was going to dinner with my husband! I finally went to the Dr. and he prescribed Adipex. I have been on it for 3 weeks now and I have lost 19 pounds. I feel better, look better and walk with confidence. I still have a long way to go but I know that I can do it! The only problem that I have had is constipation and a couple of sleepless nights…other than that, all is well! Good luck!

Subj: Only prescribed for 3 months?
Date: 3/21/2010
How can people be taking this for long periods of time, when My Dr and serveral other Dr.’s have said this is only prescribed for 3 months on, 6 months off?
Sunflower
AskDocWeb: Obviously if they can’t get it legally then they must be getting it illegally.
Subj: No insurance
Date: 3/25/2010
Hi I am 31 and 270 lbs I have heard a lot about adipex and would love to try it, but the prob is I dont have any insurance to see a doc reguraly. Does any one know a legit website that u can order adipex or phenterimine from. Thank you in advance!
Vonny
AskDocWeb: Buying Phentermine, Adipex, or any prescription drug over the Internet is not recommended. It would be far safer to find a free clinic in your area that deals with weight loss.
